I think Willis has a great chance to win it if he can stay healthy. But i would not at all be surprised if it is a later round pick guy winning it

I think Patrick Willis or Anthony Spencer will win it but I also think if Moses wins a starting job opposite Burgess he could rack up some sacks with all the attention going to Burgess and Sapp and be a dark horse winner.

want an explantation?

-Willis has never played 3-4
-He hasnt taken blocks on as well ..he goes around more often
-He has to adjust
-His supporting cast isnt very good..you need some DL

100 tackles is possible..but 155 doubt it. I see him only getting about 70-80 though

i wish him the best..he was my 2nd favorite D player in draft

Lots of interesting options here. I like Anthony Spencer, Jon Beason, Patrick Willis, Poz, Brandon Merriweather, and David Harris, with Buster Davis as a bit of a sleeper pick. Reggie Nelson and Eric Weddle come to mind as well.

Buster Davis(if we run alot of 3-4)

he is gonna rack up tackles left and right, and will probably get a few FF and sacks

Spencer is an easy pick

I like that Spencer is a popular choice, but why do you think that's an easy pick? I've red many times you saying that. I would love it, because he plays for my team, but why do you expect so much success from him?

Btw, I agree with the one who said Poz. He will make a ton of tackles, I won't be shocked to see him in the top 10 of total tackles. He was an accumulator in college and the MIKE in the cover 2 usually makes a lot of tackles..

detroit4life
05-19-2007, 04:55 PM
Beason has a great chance along with Poz. Harris probably too. Landry has a good oppourtunity playing next to sean taylor and i think nelson has a good chance. I think LB's have the easist time winning that since they can rack up a ton of tackles so i'd say its down between Beason Poz and Harris. Willis has a greta shot but i dont include him here becasue he plays a 3-4 and his stats will not be as good as these other guys

drmoyer421

If they stay healthy..
Either Patrick Willis or Paul Posluszney. I feel Paul will win, because the offenses the Bills will face this year like the Patriots will remain on the field more than that of ones against the 49ers. And Pos will be racking up the stats at the MLB!

I'm gonna say Puz

P-L
05-20-2007, 12:11 PM
That explains it...

Only two LB in 2006 on teams that run almost exclusive 3-4 fronts put up 120+ total tackles and only one of them put up 85+ solo tackles. In 2005, only three LB got 120+ total tackles and two got 85+ solo tackles. None of them had more than 4 sacks in a season or forced more than 5 turnovers in a season (both of those stats were from different players). Willis may have a very good rookie year, but he isn't going to accumulate the stats needed to win Rookie of the Year playing in a 3-4.

derza222

Anthony Spencer, Patrick Willis, Darrelle Revis, Adam Carriker

I am a large Jets fan but I don't see Revis winning DROY, its nearly impossible for a corner. And Carriker I don't think will have the necessary sack numbers to win it.

I'm gonna have to say Puz or spencer... i just think they are the best situations to rack up large numbers and help them win the award

I am going to go for a surprise pick...

CB Aaron Ross

Aaron Ross is largely under the radar; many people think he was a solid, but unspectacular pick.

The Giants have alot of problems at Corner; Corey Webster needs to step up and age is catching up with Sam Madison (I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a roster casualty)

Aaron Ross has a very good chance of winning a starting spot (or at the very least considerable playing time); with Spagnuolo's new defensive system (likely heavily based on the Eagles), the Giants will have a nasty pass rush (particularly from their front four).

Aaron Ross is probably already the best ballhawk CB the Giants have.

If the Giants defense turns it around and the likes of Strahan and Umenyiora racking up (like they did in 2005); and if Ross can make plays and make 4-5 interceptions, he will get people's attention.

your right. After Randy Moss beats him all day week 1..Revis will lose confidence.

What's the deal with Anthony Spencer? Why is he suddenly the best guy out of this draft?

He's not the best guy in the draft. He has the opportunity to put up big numbers because teams will be doubling DeMarcus Ware on the other side. I guess D-Ware is often overlooked at times.

I'm gonna say either Jarvis Moss or Lamarr Woodley as a darkhorse pick. Both of those guys can get to the quarterback and Woodley is a beast who will rack up the tackles if he can earn the playing time.

What's the deal with Anthony Spencer? Why is he suddenly the best guy out of this draft?DROYs are almost exclusively DEs or OLBs. So you can throw out all the safeties and corners. That leaves G. Adams, J. Anderson, P. Willis, A. Carriker, L. Timmons, J. Moss, J. Beason, and Spencer.

Among LBs and DEs, the linebacker who has an extremely high number of tackles (e.g., DeMeco Ryans) or the defensive end with a high number of sacks (e.g., Shawn Merriman) will win the award. 3-4 OLBs have a benefit of being able to amass both high tackles and high sacks.

Spencer is going to a system that blitzes a lot and produces high-sack linebackers. 3-4 OLBs get too much credit for sacks. They're essentially DEs, but when people see a linebacker with 10+ sacks they thing he's amazing. In reality, a 3-4 OLB is only average if he's getting 8-10 sacks.

Wade Phillips was behind the Spencer pick, so since he will be starting immediately, he is obviously a top candidate. (sack numbers will get him votes)

If Eric Weddle starts, he'll be in position to make lots of plays on the Chargers defense.

That may just be lip service for Ellis, but who knows at this point. Ellis wasn't able to participate in mini-camps because of his injury, but he's apparently already at 100% and is just being as precautious as possible.

oh I see. i was under the impression ellis was banged up and spencer was running with the first team.

if spencer pulls a merriman (merriman started like half a season but had a bunch of sacks) then even if he isnt starting 16 games, he could still be in the DROY mix.

Poz...He is going to get a ton of tackles in Buffalo's defense since London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes left.

My Dark Horse would be Aaron Ross since he could have a chance to get some good time on the Giants defense and will always be taking over the return duty's.

landry has a good shot considering he's a DB. skins will use him and sean taylor in alot of different plays to take advantage of their size/speed/athleticism.

Revis will have no problem covering Moss who likes to jog on his routes and cant catch a ball to save his life.

Lamarr Woodley.

I like this pick. He's starting as a situational Pass rusher (IE Mark Anderson) and working his way to full time. He's going to be our swing guy.. Like Terell Suggs/Jason Taylor.
