View Full Version : Favorite Five Songs By Your Favorite Artists

Flyboy

Simple topic. It's usually one I create and thought it would be interesting to post it here. The thing about this thread is that you have to post your personal favorite songs by your favorite artists/groups/bands -- sometimes "favorites" and "best" get tangled up in the mix. Keep that in mind. It also tends to generate good discussion among people regarding various types of music. I'll start it off:

Eminem
1. "Still Don't Give A ****"
2. "8 Mile"
3. "'Til I Collapse"
4. "Marshall Mathers"
5. "The Way I Am"
Honorable Mentions: "Run Rabbit Run" & "Lose Yourself"

Sarah McLachlan
1. "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy"
2. "Do What You Have To Do"
3. "Answer"
4. "I Love You"
5. "I Will Not Forget You"
Honorable Mentions: "Hold On", "Perfect Girl", "Fear", & "Wintersong"

Fiona Apple
1. "Pale September"
2. "I Know"
3. "Never Is A Promise"
4. "Carrion"
5. "O' Well"
Honorable Mentions: "Love Ridden", "The Way Things Are", "Parting Gift"

Guns N' Roses
1. "November Rain"
2. "Estranged"
3. "Patience"
4. "Rocket Queen"
5. "Don't Cry (Alternate Version)"

Aimee Mann
1. "Save Me"
2. "How Am I Different"
3. "Video"
4. "Deathly"
5. "Humpty Dumpty"
Honorable Mentions: "Beautiful", "That's How I Knew This Story Would Break My Heart"

Yeah, it's a lot harder than I thought since it's been awhile. Gets you really thinking which songs you prefer over which and starts a inner debate inside you.

Yeah, I usually like it. The only thing I hate about it is that I get into a struggle within myself about songs. It can be frustrating.

Yeah and I had trouble choosing my bands. Cream, Rush, and Soundgarden are definitely my top 3. Gotta put Zeppelin because of their sheer greatness. After those 4, there are so many bands I like.

Yeah, then are just artists that are nearly impossible for me to do this for because they just have so many songs. Like R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, & Mariah Carey. Way too difficult.

I tried alittle bit of the Muse. Good band. But the lead singers voice sounds like Thom Yorke.

The Beatles comparison was tongue in cheek.

Pffft. Be a man, goddamnit, etk. That's the point of this thread!

I'm surprised to see no "Breathe" or "Keepin' It Gangsta (Remix)" in the Fabolous category. But, yeah, "Trade It All" is my jam.

As for Ne-Yo... you gotta have "Get Down Like That (Remix) (Feat. Ghostface)" on there. Best Ne-Yo song ever.

I'm gonna edit it and order them. Yeah, GDLT Remix was on my original list but I narrowed it down and it was the last cut. Fabolous was even harder because there's at least 75 songs I really like from him, and he has more material than Ne-Yo.

Best IMO = Favourite. All music is subjective, so I wasn't trying to convince you of my way of thinking.

I wore out Stan too, but I noticed that the live version with Elton John on curtain call is just so much better beat wise. That piano killed it.

Doing an individual album is not fair. Cheater -- just like the Bucs. ;) "We Got It For Cheap" is that ish, though.

I only did the one album because it would be unfair if I had to include the mixtapes in discussion. Not only do they spit fire but they do it to the hottest beats like 'Put You On The Game' & 'Get Ya **** Together'.

not to be sexist or anything, but how the hell can you listen to RB female vocalist? I hate a good 95% of female artists, they always have horrible subject matter and overall rely on the music production from other people. Timbaland alone supports a good hand full of female artists like missy and nelly furtado and justin timberlake. Maybe I'm missing what's so great...

im sorry, but subject matters these days are bad going both ways of the gender lines...

but u have a point about the music prodcution of other ppl... Aaliyah had alot of Timbaland help, but sometimes, listening to a song with a girls voice can be more satisfying....

but a female artist who has natural skill and maturity is Alicia Keys...

Because good music is good music, period. The subject matter of women's songs don't vary that much than say a male's RB song. It's all subjective.

yeah alicia keys falls into that 5% category of those I can stand because she's very talented on her own. I'm not a fan of much R&B in the last 20 years or so, so I can't really say anything about the male artists (although T-Pain and R. Kelly should be beaten brutally) but I just hate all this male bashing crying stuff more than i hate whiny male artist crying over some tour groupie.

Does anyone else here listen to Slightly Stoopid? Brad Nowell from Sublime discovered them before he died, and they are a lot like Sublime, but with a more reggae tinge. Very few people that I know outside of my group of friends has even heard of them.

Slightly Stoopid is amazing... I really dig the acoustic stuff they do, but the plugged in stuff is great as well. I'm pretty sure either them or LBDA were used for the theme song to failed show "Joey", I'm leaning toward LBDA but it may have been SS. If you like SS you'd like LongBeach Shortbus as well, It has Ras-1 from LBDA and Eric from Sublime. It's more on the punk side, but they do some slowed dub's as well.

I had similar thoughts run through my head. I'm all for musical diversity, but that much teen pop music has to be unhealthy at some point.

I'm so excited that I am gonna be able to see slightly stoopid again. I saw them when they came to el paso last summer, and they are gonna be in portland right after I get up there. Joey's theme was by LBDA.

Brad Nowell's death had to be the most crippling loss to 90's music, even more so than Kurt Cobain.

To not have Rigged and Ready on there is a travesty. Also for the person who had the Taking Back Sunday post with no songs off of Tell All Your Friends, while I have strayed away from that type of music over the years, and have not heard a Taking Back Sunday album since their second one, it's completely ridiculous not to have a song of that album in your top five, especially since that's easily their best (they went straight down hill when John Nolan left). Oh yeah, and to the person who was wondering why Say Anything got signed, if you don't have ...Is a Real Boy, I highly recommend it. I got it like three years ago before they signed to a major and it was re-released and I still listen to it today.

Anyway, this was extremely difficult, so these are my favorite songs from a few artists/bands that I like in no particular order:

Ben Kweller
Penny on the Train Track
Until I Die
On My Way
Wasted & Ready
In Other Words
Lizzy
Falling

Bob Dylan
Only a Pawn in Their Game
Tangled Up in Blue
Just Like a Woman
Boots of Spanish Leather
Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine
I also love Hurrican but I'm not huge on Desire as a whole. My favorite album is probably Blood on the Tracks.

Brand New
Seventy Times Seven
Play Crack the Sky
Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't
Sic
Jesus
The Archers Bows Have Broken

Bright Eyes
Haligh, Haligh, A Lie Haligh
Something Vague

You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will.
Gold Mind Gutted
Poison Oak
If the Brakeman Turns My Way
Reinvent the Wheel
Well Whiskey

Sink to the Beat
The Martyr
The Radiator Hums
