Which city is the best American Sports City
Sorry if I didnt list a city you thought should be on
Doesnt have to be based on combined titles especially since not all cities have the same amount of teams, but mostly fan support etc

Everyone is just going to vote for their own city.

I vote for Detroit ;) because the Pistons always sell out, the Wings i'm sure sell out or come close.. the Lions always sell out (very quickly) even though they win less than 5 games every year.. and the Tigers are on the up and up, attendance is definitely rising there, too. Most sports fans in Detroit know what they're talking about, plus we have our fair share of Championships.. outside of the Lions of course.

I'm not going to say Cleveland is the best sports city, but how doesn't it make it on that list with the attendance the Browns get or even the fact that people still show up to games and we haven't won anything since 1964.

I said DC cause the Redskin's season ticket list waiting list is 30+ years deep. The Wizards have now become a perennial playoff team in the East. We have one of the best, if not the best, MLS teams in the country. The Caps used to be good, they are still in a rebuilding stage though. We just got the Nationals in DC. They have been good of late, and have a lot of young talent. The new stadium is amazing, you can see the capital perfectly from home plate and the seats.

I will say Chicago. They love the Bears and back them great now due to their success. They fill the United Center always, and they back the Cubs who probably will never win another title

It doesn't get much more passionate than Boston. We've got the history, tradition and an atmosphere that is second to none.

But I'd say Chicago and New York are right there with us.

Which is amazing considering the stadium seats 90,000. My dad got lucky and got em in 10 years

Dallas and Texas in general love our football. And pretty much live up to the name Football country. But as for other sports, alot are fair weather fans. Go back to 90's and see how many the Mavs sold out Reunion Arena, or if the Rangers sell out now. But were crazy for football, more then anything else.

Chicago baby. The most loyal fans of any city. I mean we all had to go through the Bears sucking for so long, the Blackhawks sucking right now, the White Sox sucking for a long time, and of course the Cubbies. The Bulls, well 6 titles last decade helps but even in the down years, we sold out the UC.

New York is the most overrated sports city though (haha I'm sure that's going to go over well on here).

There is no curse. Boston proved that. It's just a lousy excuse for Cub fans to use since their team hasn't one in 100 years.

The bullpen needs work. The Astros were 16-30 at this point in 2005, so you can't eliminate anyone at this point except for the Devil Rays and Royals.

The Astros had the talent though and they had Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, Roy Oswalt with Brad Lidge in the pen. The Cubs don't have anywhere near that

Boston-we have the fans and the great teams. But Boston, Philly, and NYC are all very close imo. I would rank them like this-

1. Boston
2. Philly (very close)
3. NY (very close)
4. Chicago
5. Detroit

Not Ottawa, that's for sure. Ottawa sucks. Can't keep a lacrosse team, can't keep a CFL team, want everybody on their hockey team who screws up publicly executed, and do not at all "go down with their ship"(I.E. when the Sens lose, they act as if they never really cared).

Houston for sure, I mean we've got the Texans, the Rockets, the Astros, the Arrows... It's brutal being a Houston sports fan at the moment. But we do have the Dynamo.

Edit: Forgot the Comets, one of the most dominant WNBA teams historically.

Actually that probably detracts from our city's sports.

Yea but that year we were able to stay in just about every game even if our hitting was bad. This season we have been getting blown out lately, even if our hitting is ok. I don't see a playoff run in our future.

The Pirates are still one of the worst organizations in all of sports. And up until this year, the Penguins were really bad which meant that the Steelers were your only team.

Btw, the Steelers won't be winning a championship next year. Sorry.

and now that they have a good 3 core of players they are scary

and i never said that the steelers will win the championship

Chicago, by far. Some of the best and loyal fans, and the teams usually succeed, especially lately. Bulls making the playoffs 3 straight years now. Bears dominating the NFC. White Sox winning the world series in 05. Cubs and BHawks, meh. At least the Cubs sell out every game even if they do suck and their fans just want to get drunk.

I'd say Detroit. One team for each major league, and great fans for the sports that I know anything about. They're in a good spot to have a good fanbase for all of their teams. Plus Michigan fans. And any place called Hockeytown with an arena named after Joe Louis has to be my winner.

For a struggling team, 12,000 per game is actually pretty darn good for Hockey. Considering we have the biggest arena of anyone in the United States. Now if this was basketball, I'd be singing a different tune.

I would hope every team is "well supported" in the largest city in the United States. It would be pretty pathetic to not sell out an 80,000 seat stadium with a population over 8 million.

You have to keep in mind that New York has almost 19 million people in its metropolitan area, plus at least a half-million tourists at any given time. In a city that big, it's not hard to find 50-60 thousand people to fill up Yankee Stadium. There are probably hundreds of thousands of diehard sports fans in New York, but I imagine that on a per-capita basis, you'll find more passionate fans somewhere else. Add in the media attention given to teams in New York (such as all the attention directed towards the Knicks despite them being terrible for the last 5-10 years) and it's hard to get a clear idea of exactly how good a sports city New York is.

eh I dont know, The Kings were just as bad and averaged 16,000 in a 18k arena....that's what i call fan support. 12k for one of the Original Six is weak. During the season the Hawks barely managed 8-9k a few times, which led to a few articles about the weak Chicago fan support.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fans not liking the Wirtz family. I know for a fact that there was a ton of buzz about them possibly selling the team, and that ticket sales would go up. I tend to think that the attendance lows might be a result of the fans spurning the Wirtz family for putting out a crap team.

I mean these are the people that won't televise home games to make the fans go and buy tickets.

I don't live in Philly, I live in Houston. I picked Philly because people live and die with the sports there unlike any other city I know of. Maybe they aren't the most loyal (understatement I know), but it's hard to find the kind of sports fervor there is in Philly anywhere else.

So reduce the homerism to 66.6 (repeating of course).

You don't have to live in a town to be a homer. You're an Eagles fan aren't you

I am but I live in Houston, and have lived in Houston my entire life. I haven't seen the kind of sports fervor anywhere that they have in Philly, there was a reason that I chose Philly, not just blind homerism. To be a complete homer though, Houston's got the Dynamo, come on no contest. Houston is the best sports city.
