  • Best Draft Ever

I'm new to the NFL Draft Forum so I don't know if this has been discussed. What is the best draft your team has ever had? I'm hoping we can compile a list of the top 20 or 30 drafts of all-time. For the best, I don't think anyone can top the 1974 Pittsburgh draft. In that draft the Steelers got four future Hall of Famers in Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth and Webster. I'm not sure the order they were picked, but I believe Webster was a fifth rounder. I know the 49ers had some great drafts that belong somewhere in the top 10. Minnesota had a string of productive drafts in the early 70's and obviously Dallas could have a few high ones on our list. As for the Dolphins, they had some very good drafts in the late 1960's and early 1980's. Hard to pick their best, but I would probably go with 1983. In that draft, Miami got Dan Marino in the first, Reggie Roby in the sixth and Mark Clayton in the eighth. They also got a couple of contributors from that draft. So let's here it. What's your best draft of all-time?

                1981 Redskins:

                1. Mark May, T, Pittsburgh
                3. Russ Grimm, G, Pittsburgh
                4. Tom Flick, QB, Washington
                5. Dexter Manley, DE, Oklahoma State
                5. Gary Sayre, G, Cameron
                6. Larry Kubin, LB, Penn State
                8. Charlie Brown, WR, South Carolina State
                9. Darryl Grant, G, Rice
                10. Phil Kessel, QB, Northern Michigan
                10. Allan Kennedy, T, Washington State
                11. Jerry Hill, WR, Northern Alabama
                12. Clint Didier, TE, Portland State

                UDFA. Joe Jacoby

This draft pretty much formed the Hogs with Jacoby, May, and Grimm. Getting these guys IMO was the reason we went on to win the superbowl later in 82.

the bolded ones are starters and some steals. The Green Bay Packers 2006 draft is the best one we had in along time.

I hope this year's turns out to be Cleveland's best ever. It would be sweet if Thomas and Wright turned into great perennial pro bowlers and Quinn became one of the 5 best QBs in the leauge like Weis thinks.

As an Eagles fan the best one I remember is the 2002 Draft when we had a great first day.

                      2002 Draft Picks
Round Overall Pick Player Pos School
1 26 Lito Sheppard CB Florida
                      2 58 Michael Lewis S Colorado
2 59 Sheldon Brown CB South Carolina
3 91 Brian Westbrook HB Villanova
                      4 124 Scott Peters C Arizona St.
5 162 Freddie Milons WR Alabama
6 198 Tyreo Harrison ILB Notre Dame
7 238 Raheem Brock DE Temple

I remember hearing Brian Westbrook's name in the background of ESPN's telecast and just going absolutely nuts. I knew the kid was gonna be a stud.

Ehh they haven't had enough production yet, lots of potential though. Still the only name there that will really stand out in a few years is Hawk IMO, maybe Blackmon or Spitz or someone else will come out of no where but probably not.

Thanks to BK for the sig

Greg Jennings might be pretty solid. But yeah, it's not exactly one for the ages.

Those 2 alone make that a pretty sweet draft.
