  • Any other First Rd safeties?

We all know about the crazy talented Kenny Phillips. But are there any other Safeties that could be first rounders?

      I don't know. I still think he's a 2-3 rounder...

Perhaps Josh Barrett... 6'2 225lbs and could run a sub 4.5 40'.. Could push him to round 1.

Michael Hamlin, Courtney Greene, Kenny Phillips if they declare (Phillips most likely then a toss up between Greene/Hamlin.)

Depending on Nic Harris' speed he could declare early and push for a round 1 pick.

      Yeah, I play WoW too.[/CENTER]

Michael Hamlin is a pretty good prospect. He's got pretty good size and range. I don't really know if he'll test well but he plays like a 1st rounder. Josh Barrett is my sleeper for a Tampa 2 team looking for a WLB. People might compare him to Archuletta because they're both LB/SS tweeners from ASU, but Archuletta isn't nearly as light on his feet. Hefney from Tennessee is pretty good, but I don't know about 1st round.

I know Taylor Mays isn't coming out this year, but he is by far my favorite safety in college football.

quintin demps is so underrated on this site. 8th FS? cmon. he's got the size and very good ballskills. if he runs under the 4.55 area, he'll be a 1st rounder. he's looking at a mid 2nd rounder right now.

So I should be looking at Demps, Hamlin, and Courtney Greene?

I think Phillips will be the only one unless another top junior declares (maybe Ellison from SC)

Johnathan Hefney is undersized, so that would be a reason why he wouldn't go in the first round. I think he's a Top 5 safety, even if the juniors declare. He's a punt returner, and a fast ball hawk. He has a lot of qualities that you'd look for in a safety, but he doesn't have the prototypical size that sceptics would want. Probable 2nd Rounder...maybe even third if he doesn't perform well at the combine.

Ellison is not fast enough to be a first round safety(4.65 guy). Another SC Safety/CB Josh Pinkard 6-1 215 4.35 could very well go in the first round this year or next year.

My bad, I meant Pinkard. Hard to keep up with those 3 great safeties at SC, and only 2 can start. Ellison is a good one though too, he a thumper but will only ever be a good college DB. Mays is a future top 5 pick.

Reggie Smith has a lot of potential. Definitely has first round talent. Whether he puts it all together or not is a different story. Can also double up as a corner.

And Taylor Mays is just gigantic. I only saw him play a couple games last year cuz we dont get many USC games over here on the east coast but man was he good and that was as a true freshman. He's gonna be as highly regarded as Sean Taylor was when he came outand they have their similarities from what I saw. Can't wait to watch him progress over these next 2 years.
