  • Late fourth-round quarterbacks?

Does anyone have any idea what kind of quarterbacks might be left around the time the Patriots will be picking in the fourth round? Even though they obviously have the best quarterback in the league this year, it never hurts to have depth and because the Patriots have so little needs, it might make sense to draft a solid quarterback, as Matt Cassel has had some trouble with his limited playing time this year. Maybe someone like a Matt Flynn would be available, no?

Flynn would be available. I wouldn't advise you take him.

    John David Booty maybe?

sam keller could potentially be around too. he's the kind of guy who's stock will go up or down around combine time.

Alex Brink? He's got tools, shown flashes, just give him a good coach and mentor and maybe something'll come of him.

            Chad Henne? But I doubt he's still available in the 4th . . .

Josh Johnson will go well before the late 4th.

                  Kevin O'Connell, San Diego State...

Right now I'd say Josh Johnson could possibly be a late 4th round pick.

                  Yeah, I play WoW too.[/CENTER]

Paul Smith could be a steal in that area...I don't think he's a 1-2-3 round QB, but has enough athletic ability to warrant someone taking a shot at him..and is a better pro-prospect, IMO, than Keller, Booty and Flynn..

Flacco will be a 3rd rounder at the latest and will very possibly go much earlier.

Can I get some observations or opinions on Josh Johnson? I haven't heard much about him besides him being a sleeper going into this draft.

Thanks to Bone Krusher for the sig

-From a D1-AA school where by all acounts he is the show (as opposed to Flacco who has talent around him at Deleware)
-Currently listed at 6'3" 200lbs, 40 listed is usually 4.65-4.7
-Not heavily recruited out of college (obviously) though did have one D-1 scholorship offer from Idaho
-Has put up absolutely absurd #'s (look them up) in an offense that is to my knowledge not a "gimmicky" one.
-I've seen him in the 2nd-3rd round range along with Ainge and Flacco to be the 4th quarterback chosen, though some (like Scott) obviously aren't as sold.
-I don't claim to be an expert on the guy, in fact I've only seen one tape of him (looked very fluid), but his stock I think is far too hot right now that it will drop to a late 4th after the combine and all that unless he really falters.

-Also probably worth noting that San Diego is an abnormally windy city, so he must have at least some arm strength to put up his type of #'s.

Paul Smith is ill. He's one of the best WCO prospects at QB in the draft because he has great accuracy within 20 yards and can throw very fast to the outside. He will be a 4th rounder at the earliest but I think he's a major steal if he goes to an offense where he doesn't have to throw deep too much or make difficult reads too often. He also has pretty good athleticism.
