  • No Rookie Wage Scale till 2012???

I heard from Chris Mortensen this morning that the it seems as if there will be no rookie wage scale for the 2011 draft. This could make the 2011 Draft even more interesting.

    Sorry, but I don't have a link.

Thanks to Bone Krusher for the sig

That makes Locker's decision a lot more palatable.

I still think this will be the most underclassmen to declare for the NFL.

I don't think it will effect a lot of the 2010 Draft a lot.

This should have a big effect. Some of the juniors that could have been looking to get paid have the opportunity to stay in school and still get the big bucks next year now that there is no wage scale for 2011. People were talking that college football was going to have a mass exodus into the 2010 draft due to the wage scale. This should help make up a lot of kids minds.

I'm not shocked. I don't think the NFL will ever introduce a rookie salary cap unless the owners are prepared to create FA after 2 years, which the owners will never agree to in our lifetime. So everyone can forget a rookie salary cap whether its 2010, 2011 etc. etc. They aren't about to change a pay system because of 10 players a year.
            And proud of it!!!

I agree. The reason why it works in the NBA is because these guys can play years and years and years. It wouldn't be fair to lock a guy into a low-money deal for half of his career when the market would pay him much much more. Especially for RBs. Come out at 22, get drafted in the first round and locked into a bad contract till you're 27, then only have three years of prime earning power left. Not fair. I don't wanna see the rookie salary scale happen.

Agents are probably the number 1 reason most guys declare. There still going to be in guys ears saying that this is going to happen even though it probably won't happen till 2012. Just look at a team like Florida were 10 players submitted paperwork and it looks like maybe 5 will declare. That has never happened before in any draft for one team.

Kinda off topic but are pro football talk & real gm allowed to be linked to this site for the story? Just wanted to double check since I received an infraction earlier.

As far as I know, yes those are allowed. I've seen dozens of PFT threads and I'm pretty sure some RealGM ones. The ones to avoid are sites that are explicitly for the NFL draft. That's what I think, anyway. I'll look for some more clarification for you.

Jake Locker with his stupid, uninformed decisions.
