Looks like a big talent discrepancy on paper, but I expect PSU to keep it close at least. JoePa has a history of getting his team motivated for bowl games.

As for draft prospects, admittedly I don't know a whole lot about LSU's guys besides the top players (LaFell is obviously a legit 2nd round prospect), but maybe I can help shed some light on the PSU prospects.

Navorro Bowman--I think if any player can shed this whole stigma attached to PSU prospects recently, I think he can. Bowman is a playmaker at 4-3 OLB linebacker if I've ever seen one for PSU. He doesn't have elite timed speed, but he is everywhere at once for the defense. He plays big in big games (13, 11, and 9 tackles vs Iowa, at Michigan and vs tOSU respectively, with a sack and INT at Michigan as well). Accumulated 84 tackles over 9 regular season games. Has a reputation for off the field trouble, but these troubles occurred over a time span where he lost his biological father and his football father (his high school coach). Now has a child and appears to have turned a new leaf as he has stated in interviews he wants to provide for his family. A solid mid-late 1st round investment in my opinion. May take a season to learn the system, but should be able to contribute sooner rather than later.

Jared Odrick--Two words-High Motor. Has the physical skills to turn this combination into a heck of a football player. Plays nose in 4-3 system, can be disruptive. Has increased production every season, and was unquestioned leader of an otherwise all new defensive line. Can also play 5-technique in 3-4. Also has character questions, but these may be more of a problem for him than Bowman. Solid 2nd round pick.

Sean Lee--follows great tradition of Penn State linebackers (as well as Bowman). Somewhere in between Puz and Connor as far as pro prospects are concerned. Doesn't have great triangle numbers, but again, he's just a football player. Probably not an upper-tier starter in NFL, but could be a solid contributer as a starter. Has knee issues that could push him into later rounds Solid 3rd-4th round value.

Daryll Clark--Stands in the pocket with poise later than any QB I've ever seen. Looks to be engulfed by lineman sometimes before releasing a pass. Needs to improve timing and leadership. Tends to disappear in big games. Good runner as a QB, but doesn't run enough in college to the point that it hurts the team sometimes. Fairly accurate, but not enough to warrant a mid-round pick. Arm strength is a plus, but tends to fall in love with his fastball, rocketing passes where ball needs to be finessed. 5th-6th rounder.

A.J. Wallace--Two words-Unrealized Potential. Came in as a 5 star athlete who never successfully made the transition to corner. 4.4 speed at 6-1 180. On paper a first or second round talent. Knowing this, his game tape will make you cry. Should be a playmaker, but doesn't seem to understand coverages well enough to consistently make an impact on the game. Possibly some potential as an NFL safety. Combine should help him towards getting drafted. 6th-7th round pick.

Jeremy Boone--consistent, solid punter. Small stature compared to other Big Ten punting prospect, Zoltan Mesko. 7th-UDFA.

Mickey Shuler--blocking TE with decent enough hands to the point that it doesn't make him a moot point in the passing game. Good bloodlines. Good footwork on blocks, could improve upper body strength. Late rounder.

Andrew Quarless--could've been a better prospect, just could never stay on the field with off the field issues. Makes fair amount of drops, but makes up for it with good RAC ability. Athletic specimen. Could improve blocking. Maturity issues. 6th-7th round.

Dennis Landolt--not a LT, purely a RT. He and junior center prospect Stefen Wisniewski have been only consistent performers on O-Line. Draftable, but shouldn't be expected to become anyone who can contribute on offense. 7th rounder.

Very good analysis thechad31790. The only thing I disagree with is Andrew Quarless. I think he'll go earlier then you expect.

Similar to Wallace, he has been an underachiever for most of this college career, but he has been played very well lately.

He's a very talented prospect imo.

Penn State simply cant match up with the athletes LSU has. The bad weather is helping the Nittany Lions stay in the game.

I think Penn State has the best shot of any Big Ten team to win their Bowl Game. LSU has struggled with fundamentals, is still hurting a bit, and Penn State does have some good athletes this year. If Daryll Clark plays well, I think they win.

EDIT: I posted this after it started, but was my thoughts beforehand. Obviously this field has basically made the 1st quarter a moot point.

Oh yes!! LSU has all those real "athlete's" I mean please, look at those Penn State safeties, you can't win with those blue collar, lunch pail, athletically limited overachievers, no of course not!

Is Josh Hull underrated or is it just me?

Never been really able to crack the starting lineup. Very good player though. I never understood why he couldnt start, but he's been productive.

Omg how did #5 make that type of athletic play???????????? He is a blue collar overachiever! Oh my! Only real athletes can jump that high???? What is going on here (This is how the average white fan reacts when a white skill position player makes an athletic move)

I thought he was a starter... You sure about that? Dude has a 110 tackles on the year.

Basically. If Penn St doesnt get a pass rush, the defensive backs will get killed.

Starter because of injury I'm pretty sure.

Was impressed with Quarless for PSU, Sean Leen also but he looks small.

I don't think it's reasonable to try to handicap a football game by comparing their draft eligible/draftable prospects. A lot of teams are getting significant contribution from freshmen and sophomores (and juniors that nobody expects to come yet) at this time of the year, after all.
