that's tough for fsu. he would have been their go to wr this year.

Yea I think he would have had a breakout season, he's been a great practice player and just never got in rhythm last year. It's a bit of an awkward rule as it was a semi pro flag football league, which raises the question if its considered the same sport or not. But the NCAA has never been known to take situations into account.

They are really hurting at WR now.

We had a great WR class come in last year, Bert Reed and Taiwan Easterling played alot last year and are both very good. Richard Goodman is a senior whose battled injuries but has played great in spring ball. All those guys are smaller WR's while some of last years Freshmen are bigger guys like Jarmon Fortson at 6'3" 220 whose suppose to be a stud and Cameron Wade and Avis Commack are both 6'5" ish. Willie Downs is also an incoming freshman top 100 player who could end up at WR or Safety. So theres alot of talent as we've recruited the position well, just very short on experience right now outside of Reed and Easterling.

Also watch out for Louis Givens who is a 5'8" walk on WR, who should get a scholly in the fall as he's been tearing up spring practices and if you watched the Miami v FSU game last year, he was the guy chasing down Travis Benjamin multiple plays so he's got real deal speed. He should actually get some real PT this year.

Not really. We have some guys coming in and returning who should get immediate PT.

I expect the receivers to look like this on Labor Day against UM:

            WR1- Jarmon Fortson
            WR2- Bert Reed
WR3- Taiwan Easterling/Louis Givens (give the man a damn scholarship, already!)
            WR4- Goodman/Owens/Wade/Smith/Haulstead/Commack

Easterling is still hurt. And an Achilles is not a good injury for a WR to have. I heard even if he plays against us that he isn't going to be 100 percent.

The only one there that seems like a threat is Reed.

Ah, forgot about the Achilles injury. Most likely then he won't be ready to go by the Miami game. Watch out for Louis Givens. He has speed. If you recall, he was tracking down Travis Benjamin this past year. Fortson has also been making plays this spring. Funny thing is, the receivers have been making great plays, but not fundamental plays I.E. dropping slants, curls, etc. Should be a good game come Labor Day. I'm trying to find tickets with a buddy of mine to go.

Reed is the only one that has done anythibg in games.

Not worried about Forston, itll be his 1st game in a big time atmosphere. Cant expect much frm him there.

Givens tracked down Benjamin? When? Benjamin ran all over you guys. He got us back in the game basically by himself.

Benjamin had numerous big returns that he would have taken to the house that Givens chased down from across the field. The announcers were even talking about how many times Givens saved a bigger play.

And they don't give out scholarships till August to walk-ons so there's no use worrying about it.

Also Achilles tear rehab isn't that long, its generally about 4 months and I don't know what type of surgery they did on him but sometimes even sooner. Easterling is projected to be ready for fall practice.

If there was any one spot where we had depth - it was WR.

As of this moment, I am not that concerned - however, if another big time injury happens or we continue to have off the field issues, WR will really become an issue.

As of right now - Reed is our #1 guy, but I think Fortson will be more then capable of filling in as a starter - meanwhile we have all summer and fall to see who can earn that #3 spot - Goodman, Givens, Easterling (post injury) are obviously the favorites but we do have some other bodies who should at least compete - two Greg Carr type WRs in Avis and Wade - meanwhile we have the electrifying Willie Downs who may be just what the doctor ordered as a all-around stud WR.

We are still ok at WR, we just may lack the experience we would love to see.
