Cal has played both Tennessee & Miami and fans overall both were very respectful. Neither team or their coaches made any exscuses after getting beat. I thought their fans and players were class acts, especially Tennessee. Within the Pac-10, there's no doubt that SC fans are the worst. You're generally talking about rich, spoiled kids, who seem to believe they've occomplished something they haven't. Since I'm generalizing, I might as well say that every person who's graduated from the MBA program is very smart, hard working, and the anti-SC fan I've just described.

The north needs more love for their hate.

So true, I hate always having teams post on message boards after they win, that the fan base was classy and treated them well...dammit I want blood in the stands!

So I tailored my commentary toward HCs as well as their fanbases.

Notre Dame : Everybody outside of South Bend, IN rejoiced when O'Leary got caught fudging his resume & booted. This school gives new meaning to arrogance, so there was a groundswell of horselaughs when they tanked the last 2 yrs. Maybe having their own exclusive TV network contract had something to do with that. A lifesized bronze statue of Lou Freaking Holtz? Rockne, Gipp, even Parseghian I could understand, but Holtz? C'mon.......

Michigan : See comment on the reaction to the Wolverines tanking on ND above. At least Rodriguez hasn't made excuses like the ND fans or bailed yet for an NFL job (you know he's thought about it, nobody would blame him)

Ohio State : Coach Sweatervest can't get over the hump of winning the Big One, & decades of Big 10 dominance won't erase the shame of the much faster Gators teams speed humiliating them.

Texas : Big state, big campus, big FB program = big arrogance. Some say it's just plain too big, & that's true. Also a highly raised bar of expectations for winning everyyr, but there should not be any excuses with the way they dominate in-state recruiting. Mack Brown had a rep of being an excellent recruiter but couldn't manage a game worth a damn when Stoops & Oklahoma demolished Chris Simms & upset them almost every yr, it brought them back down to earth, now they pretty much split the Red River Rivalry evenly.

USC : A big p/o program arrogance is underestimating your lesser opponents -- see Oregon St. last yr & Stanford the yr. before & their stunner upsets over the Trojans to trash their whole seasons. The best recruiting in the West is undermined by poor game preparation & mgmt. vs. those "lesser" teams. Contrary to popular belief, USC is a private, very expensive school, & that adds to its elitist image.

Florida : And they say Nick Saban is arrogant???? uhhh, OK admittedly, but Saban's rcd. supports it. On his most arrogant day he can't touch Urban Meyer who's the odds-on fave to be the next college HC lured to the NFL, hey, those rumors have substance to them & that can't be good for the Gators program recruiting. This school was ranked the #1 party college in America, then the #1-ranked b-ball team, then the FB national titles, I think it went to their heads.

Tennessee: Also a severely swelled head program with crass, rude fans who provoke too much crap with visiting fans in Knoxville, my brother got hit in the head by garbage flung into the visitors' section at a Bama-Tenn. game by redneck a-holes. The best women's b-ball team in the country added to that arrogant attitude from their fans. Worst of the lot was Kiffin's predecessor, Phil "Jugbutt" Fulmer, whose other nickname was "Subpoena." Here's why: enjoying top-ranked national recruiting classes for yrs. & made him arrogant, but he took the political route ratting out teams he couldn't beat on the field to the NCAA Committee, & that's just intolerable, as in the Memphis d-linemen recruiting scandal where HS d-linemen were being auctioned off to college program boosters at 100K a pop. It got the Kentucky coach Hal Mumme fired, U of Memphis investigated, & Alabama its 2nd probation in < 10 yrs & severely undermined Mike Shula's regime, which was p/o Fulmer's plan all along. This is why when the Vols got beaten on the road in the SEC there would be the in-joke of bogus PA announcements like "Coach Fulmer, your subpoena is ready for you at Gate 10!" (Fulmer hid in his office for several days to avoid NCAA subpoenas in that same scandal) When it came time to investigate Tennessee, a Vols representative met the NCAA investigators at the airport & rode back with them to the campus, & miraculously Tennessee was exonerated, hmmmm.....Grad students have been writing papers for Vols athletes for yrs & gotten away with it, hence the jk that the Vols have more to fear from the Florida Gators than the NCAA investi-Gators (ouch!) Not even the Mississippi St. faithful with their cowbells are as bad as the Vols lately. It's really disappointing to see Kiffin stepping into the same steaming piles of bad PR dung that Fulmer did.

And of course, Auburn. They been humbled lately with their program tanking & firing their OC in mid-season, can't run the spread offense without the players to run it, can you? In all of Div. 1 there is no more vicious rivalry than the Iron Bowl, the Alabama-Auburn game has provoked more assaults, homicides, suicides, slander, lawsuits, divorces, etc. than any other rivalry game. They take their college fb seriously in the Lizard State, where there is serious hubris about "My Team." I remember being cautioned by my father as a child prior to family Holiday dinners among our divided family to keep my mouth shut about the last game to avoid the umbrage & fisticuffs. All it takes is some namecalling & one or 2 racial epithets & they're off & running.
I could have respected this list a lot more if you would have manned up and included your own fan base though.

As a Miami fan, Im shocked not to see us #1. I also cant believe FSU is on that list. Ive been to games their with Canes shirts on and was treated fine. I can write for days about all the things I seen as a Miami fan at the OB lol. And i love it. When it comes to the most cocky also, we gotta be #1.

yeah and apparently we are obnoxious enough to be #1, something i already expressed my feelings about, no but seriously, i dont bother to much with other fans as long as they are realistic about the academic approach of their school. I dont think there is a division 1 school where you cant get a quality education if you really want to but what imo is relevant is the majors the players do. for the rest a university that honours agreements and doesnt fail to correct itself usually isnt flawed, people representing a uni can be but thats a whole different story.

ps im in soapbox mode apparently today, i set out to type one small thing and off topic stories come out

To me they would be about fifth since they arent that rude or anything and somewhat more civilised than those from other schools but usc fans are just so rediculously arrogant it is in fact really annoying.

But then again we are rivals(well not in recent years but still) we are supposed to dislike that part of each other.
