    2010 USC Trojans Thread

As far as I can see there is no thread on here for USC, so why not start one.

    Now everyone is happy!

I am personally not that afraid of how the defense plays this season. The defensive line I have more questions about than the linebackers I must say, but overall they should be fine.

    DL: Griffin, Tupou, Spicer, Jackson.
Clearly need Griffin to show up more during the games, Tupou should have a fine season at tackle and I am sure a young defensive end or defensive tackle will show himself during the season. Easily the biggest question mark on defense in my book however.

    LB: Morgan, Galippo, Smith
Not worried at all, Smith is a stud, Morgan could be a star and supposedly Galippo is damn good as well. Have a little depth with Brown, and he might even end up starting. At least all of these guys got playing time last year so they are not totally new.

    CB: Wright, Thomas, Bryant
Will be really nice having Wright back, he was arguably their best corner last year. Pinkard can always move down however if they do have issues. Thomas is rock solid as well and I hear Bryant is a real player.

    S: Mays, Harris, Pinkard
Not concerned either, ideally I would love to see Harris in as starting SS but Pinkard is more experienced, depends on how the corners play I guess.

The biggest question obviously is the quarterback situation. Last year showed just how good they can be with an experienced quarterback. Because in 07 when Sanchez had less experience the offense looked totally different than it did last year. Hopefully it is not a long learning curve.

    QB: Corp, Barkley, Mustain
Have not see much from the first too but I hope they turn out because Mustain is nothing great and does not have a strong enough arm I feel potentially.

RB: McKnight, Gable, Johnson, Havili, Tyler, Bradford
Absolutely not question mark, heard McKnight is trying time at corner, and why not with this many running backs. Even with the Green transfer, they still got the young guy Tyler waiting in the wings. I expect even more out of them this year because they should run the ball more

    WR: Williams, Johnson, Ausberry
Very good set or receivers, losing Hazelton is not that big of a deal turns out. Johnson is a flat out burner and Ausberry should get enough playing time to perform better than last year.

    TE: McCoy, Ayles
McCoy should be a flat out monster this year, and Ayles gives them potential to do a two tight end set with two very good pass catching tight ends.

OL: Brown, Byers, O'Dowd, Lewis, Heberer, T. Smith
Great offensive line, might be the strongest point of the team outside of running back. Thus hope they run the ball more and that protect for the young quarterbacks will really help.

Huge key is how good this kid is, Chris Galippo, I remember seeing him in the Army high school All American game and he was lights out, however last year in limited time I was not all that impressed. Hopefully he steps up his game.

Any other potential standout new players this year? Will have to wait and see for them.

As for the different coaches, losing the offensive coordinator is not a big deal, who couldn't coach offense with the weapons they had last year. Bigger concern is losing Holt as defensive coordinator, he was a dang good coach but then again Carroll runs most of the defense anyway and I respect the coaches he brings in anyway.

I am almost more excited about this season than last season because of all the new fresh faces. I heard one reporter say if there is a year to "get" USC it is this year, I doubt that.

Monte isnt going anywhere, our defense was going to get gashed this year anyways because theyre just not ready to be an elite unit yet. First year in a new system and just a bunch of guys who just didnt perform this year.

And Monte is still getting used to the college game. His defense is set for a pass first offense which you see every week in the NFL, in the college game hes seeing spread offenses and read option....things he never saw in the NFL. Monte is one of the brightest defensive minds in the game, he will be just fine.

If USC finishes 10-3 this season would have been a success. The offense is playing out of their minds and we would have lost only 3 games (2 by last second field goals). and 2 to top 5 teams.

USC is ranked 116/120 in pass defense.

If Monte can either get it done or if LK gets the guts to fire his dad and bring in someone younger with a better game plan we'll be back on top soon.

Also, the way Barkley is playing now... think about how good he can be if he stays until his senior year (considering he progresses fully).

Wow that defense against Hawaii, what a joke.

However Perry did not play and clearly TJ Bryant not having him at corner is a huge issue. But them practicing free contact is not the way to go but clearly they had to because of injury.

Hopefully that was why they played so soft. Offense looked great, Tyler that is quite an improvement he made. I liked how the offensive line played as well.

Good note on the defense, watch out for Kennard, he is going to be a beast for Monte in that Tampa 2 defense, what an outstanding athlete he is at linebacker and I feel he is strong enough to get off blocks as well. He could have a monster year.

Just not the same without Pete, but big thing is the focus on defense, hopefully Monte can turn it around because clearly Kiffin knows very little about improving that side of the ball. I still say defense first, that is what made USC great and that is what will make them great in the future.

Last year is proof, the best defensive teams, Alabama and Texas were in the National Title game, heck even look at Nebraska, great defense, poor offense but so what they were still successful in the end because of that defense. Any team can play good offense, note Hawaii, Texas Tech in the past, SMU currently....The big boys play D and I hope the Trojans D can turn it around, because at least they got players there and talent at many positions.

USC and Michigan are in a ******* battle to see who can get the most negative publicity this off-season.

This time, Lane Kiffin suspended freshman DB Patrick Hall indefinitely for unspecified reasons.

Kiffin already leaving his mark on the team. Tyler named starter over Bradford. Also of note, freshmen Robert Woods and Nickell Robey earned starting jobs, and Kennard beat out Galippo.

The latter isn't all that suprising, but still, wow.

Dillon will grow up fast, i think that is what Lane is doing this for. He needs to learn that if he continues to do dumb ****, there is going to be punishment. Im glad that Lane did something about it.
