Aldon Smith would be cool, but the Patriots' draft history shows they are more than willing to take defensive linemen in the first round (Warren, Wilfork, Seymour) and even as high as the second round as rotational players (Marquise Hill, Ron Brace.) They also heavily favor seniors as opposed to underclassmen, so given the gap at defensive end I'd go with Jordan or Heyward at #17 overall. Jordan might be a better prospect, but Heyward is a bit of a better fit.

That said, I could see them doubling up on ends if they don't think Ty Warren's going to be on the team long term. Something like Jordan/Heyward and then Wilkerson would be a great first round. There's no linebacker value there at #28.

Orlando Franklin is a fit for a blocking scheme like Philadelphia's but not New England's. Think zone blockers for the Patriots. Solder is very similar to Patriots 2009 second-round pick Sebastian Vollmer, and I think the value there is way too good to pass up. He's the type of player New England would target, and with one of the best offensive line coaches ever in Dante Scarnecchia, they'd most likely feel comfortable coaching him up for a year or so behind Matt Light.

Not the biggest Torrey Smith fan but at #60 the value is too good to pass up.

I don't know about Johnny Patrick though...the Patriots usually stay away from guys with character concerns. I think Scarnecchia will like the way John Moffitt plays and recommend him to Bill Belichick as a potential fit...he'd be great there at #74. Jerrell Powe is possible given his size, but I think New England would be more interested in Kenrick Ellis if they went in that direction.

    My final recommendation:

    1. DE Cameron Jordan, California

    1. DE Muhammad Wilkerson, Temple*

    2. OT Nate Solder, Colorado

    2. WR Torrey Smith, Maryland*

    3. OG John Moffitt, Wisconsin

    3. NT Kenrick Ellis, Hampton

Like the Saints 2nd and 3rd round selections, but I don't like Martez Wilson in the 1st. Middle linebacker ain't a big need as we have Jonathan Vilma. I'd rather have guys like Cameron Heyward, Stephen Paea or Adrian Clayborn there.

exactly this, with the addition that even though Wilson projects well enough at WILL he is also to much of a reach late first

        Saints 2014 draft wish list:
        - No pass rusher till the fourth round (or preferably at all)
        - Corner or Wideout in the first
        - No reaching
        - No Kelvin Benjamin

no first round tackle for the Lions. I don't want it and I'm not buying that they'll do it.

I'm in disagreement with ROP when it comes to drafting two DEs in the 1st round.
It is true that A.Smith isn't a senior or a captain so those things will go into consideration when BB's making his big boad.
Either way, maybe someone like J.Houston makes more sense. I believe he was a captain and has the ideal size BB likes.
I really believe this is the year BB addresses OLB in the first if the player he likes is available.
Our passrush was at an all time worst last year, I doubt the position goes unaddressed.

Other than that, I like the mock minus J.Powe. Mainly bc he'll just be a rotational DE/back up NT for us. Instead we could take, if BB feels he's healed medically, K.O'Dowd. He has the potential to be our starting C for the next decade. I'd rather take the risk on that in the third over a backup DL.
Especially with T.Warren coming back, selecting a DE in the 1st rd and the recent signing of M.Stroud

            1-A.Smith/J.Houston (OLB)
            1-M.Wilkerson (DE)
            2-O.Franklin (OL)
            2-T.Smith (WR)
            3-J.Patrick (DB()
            3-K.O'Dowd (C)
-Boston Red Sox-New England Patriots-Boston Celtics-

PP is perfect, Hankerson I like it as long as Pass Rush was addressed in FA/trade. Enderle is solid imo as well.

                  Seattle

Jimmy Smith fills a huge need at corner and taking a flyer on Marvin Austin, who looked good at the combine, is probably not a bad thing.

                  Detroit

A tackle is interesting from a diehard Lions fan as most think the present ones arent that bad. A good value at #13 is Smith for sure.

Prince is losing alot of flair for that 1st round pick, not looking like a lock to go top 10 anymore, I think he's more likely to go to Houston. I'd much rather prefer Watt + Aaron Williams, or the best case scenario being Tyron Smith + Danny Watkins.

RT is our biggest need other then safety but it's more important and there is at least 1 tackle worth that value. His upside is tremendous and rivals only Watt at that point, and we do alot of 5-7 step drops in our offense with Jason Garrett.

In the 2nd I like the value for Guard, Watkins can step in immediately and with the first 2 rounds we upgraded our line tremendously. I like that better even though CB is a need.

If we started our first 2 rounds like that give us Ras I in the 3rd who is a natural fit here. He can start out as a deep center FS in our defense and have some versatility to play CB in a pinch, cover the slot, or move to CB if he doesn't pan out there. As much as I am a fan of Chykie Brown there the versatility of Ras would put us in a great position.

Then going into round 4 we have our major needs covered. We would only need to address DE at that time, which is honestly when we should be looking at a 3-4 DE, and we'll probably bring back Hatcher and Bowen opposite Igor and Bowen is a breakout candidate.

Good Steelers mock...choosing between Cannon and Pouncey would be a killer though, id like to see the Pouncey twins together, but i think Cannon is the better player.

Also like Ras-I over Burton a little bit, but still a goood pick.

                      Good job overall!

Yea I was pretty surprised to see that pick from a Lions fan but I love it. Tyron to Detroit makes a ton of sense to me, not sure why so many Lions fans are opposed. Tyron isn't this huge project who can't start right away like some people are making it out to be.

He can start from day 1 and kick Backus inside who would still be starting. Maybe Fox develops, maybe he doesn't, you don't pass on a top 10 franchise LT because of a guy you got in the 4th-5th round that you "hope" develops into something good. I don't think Dallas knew they had anything with Free until an injury happened and he was forced into the line-up but I bet if we had a shot at a franchise LT prior we wouldn't have passed him up for Free.

I don't think it'd be wise to wait for Fox to develop, let Backus get old, find out Fox can't cut it, and go a season with Stafford fleeing for his life. Especially knowing the history Stafford has had with injuries, I don't possibly see how investing high picks to protect him can ever be a bad thing.

Julio Jones there would be very tempting.
