  • 6 rounder no trades

Here is my six round mock - i might add a 7th. No trades or FA scenarios. I think Vikings fans will hate me...

    First Round

    1. Carolina Panthers - Marcell Dareus DT Alabama - Rivera is a defensive minded coach. No QB is worthy of the top spot. Dareus fills a big need for the Panthers and the best way to build a winner is by addressing the line.
    2. Denver Broncos - Patrick Peterson CB LSU - Most promising player in the draft with the most talent. Denver's going back to the 4-3 defense, this draft is stacked with quality d-line men and Denver gets Dumervil back as a DE next year.
    3. Buffalo Bills - Cam Newton QB Auburn - Rumor was they were poised to take Tebow last draft in the 2nd before Denver traded back into the first to get Tebow. Newton is essentially the same player Tebow was and the type Chan Gailey likes at the QB position. Good luck trying to break down the AFC East defenses of New England, NYJ and Miami CAM! (Not a real big Newton fan)
    4. Cincinnati Bengals - Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri - Cincinatti gets their QB of the future. Should be a good fit in Gruden's WCO.
    5. Arizona Cardinals - Von Miller LB Texas A&M - BPA and no QB available is worthy of this pick. Miller immediatly fills a need for Arizona
    6. Cleveland Browns - AJ Green WR UGA - Colt McCoy needs a WR with the potential to be a gamebreaker. The Browns are going back to a 4-3 defense but the biggest weakness is their recieving corps
    7. San Francisco 49ers - Prince Amakamura CB Nebraska - SF's most glaring hole is at QB. Other than that they have a solid offensive foundation. No available QB warrants consideration. Prince is going to be a very good CB and this fills a big need for San Fran
    8. Tennessee Titans - Nick Fairley DT Auburn - Good value pick. Questions about Fairley's work ethic and character allow him to fall this far. The Titans get a solid building block for their D-Line.
    9. Dallas Cowboys - Tyron Smith OT USC - I think Doug Free played LT very well last season and they would like to resign him. Jerry Jones never drafts o-line early but Smith is rising up draft boards and addresses a huge need for the Cowboys.
    10. Washington Redskins - Julio Jones WR Alabama - Addresses a big need for the Skins. QB is another position to be addressed but Jones is to good to pass up.
    11. Houston Texans - JJ Watt DE Wisconsin - The Texans offense is a well oiled machine but the defense leaves alot to be desired. Watt goes here due to the fact he is the best 5 technique in the draft. With the Texans transition to a 3-4 they need to get players that fit the scheme.
    12. Minnesota Vikings - Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson - Falls due to injury concerns leading up the draft and fears he is a one year wonder in college. Frazier has made it clear he would like a QB but none are worth the 12th overall pick.
    13. Detroit Lions - Anthony Costanzo OT Boston College - One of the safer picks in the draft. The Lions will look to Costanzo to protect Matt Stafford.
    14. St. Louis Rams - Robert Quinn DE UNC - Spags has a boner for D-lineman going back to his time with the Giants. Quinn will be a very good compliment to Chris Long and give Spags more versatility with defensive looks.
    15. Miami Dolphins - Cam Jordan DE Cal - Miami has drafted 5 techniques with varying degrees of sucess the past few years. Jordan is the son of a former NFL player, college graduate and if Sparano is anything like Parecells these will play a big role in the decision making process.
    16. Jacksonville Jaguars - Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue - Like everyone else says - Gene Smith type pick.
    17. New England Patriots (f/OAK ) - Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin - Big mauling tackle, will move right into the RT position when Vollmer takes over the LT spot.
    18. San Diego Chargers - Aldon Smith DE/OLB Missouri - Chargers need to find a dependable rush OLB. Larry English has not shown much.
    19. New York Giants - Danny Watkins OG/OT Baylor - Versatile player, Giants O-line has been hit by injuries, Watkings can play either guard position, RT and potentially center. He will be a 26 year old rookie but the Giants are not in rebuilding mode so this will not be much of a factor.
    20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa - The Bucs addressed the interior DL last draft and now get a very good DE in Clayborn to get to the QB.
    21. Kansas City Chiefs - Phil Taylor DT Baylor - Chiefs have done a pretty good drafting with Pioli. He will be a good presence in the middle of the Chiefs 3-4.
    22. Indianapolis Colts - Nate Solder OT Colorado - Solder has the most potential of any tackle in the draft. Polian has not drafter many o-linemen early. Manning needs pass protection.
    23. Philadelphia Eagles - Jimmy Smith CB Colorado - Character concerns but also talented. Reid does not shy away from players with character concerns (obviously).
    24. New Orleans Saints - Cameron Heyward DE Ohio St - Flying a little under the radar but his Bowl performance was amazing vs Arkansas.
    25. Seattle Seahawks - Brandon Harris CB Miami - Seattle could go QB here but after spending a 2nd rounder last season on Whitehurst Carrol decided to address the biggest team need.
    26. Baltimore Ravens - Torrey Smith WR Maryland - The Ravens WR crop is aging and slow, no real vertical threats exist to challenge teams downfield.Smith can help stretch teams downfield.
    27. Atlanta Falcons - Titus Young WR Boise St - Compliment to Roddy White. Jenkins has not stepped up as a reliable number 2.
    28. New England Patriots - Justin Houston OLB - Drafted to get to the QB. Can platoon with Banta-Cain and Ninkovich until he is ready to step in as a full time starter.
    29. Chicago Bears - Derek Sherrod OT Miss St - Addresses the biggest weakness of the team
    30. New York Jets - Brooks Reed OLB Arizona - Jets need a pass rushing OLB
    31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Muhammad Wilkerson DT/DE Temple - Rising up the draft boards during the predraft process. The Steelers are older on the D-Line. Smith, Keisel and Hampton are all in their 30s. Projects as a 5 technique but might be able to move inside.
    32. Green Bay Packers - Mark Ingram RB Alabama - Ryan Grant is returning from injury, James Starks was impressive in the post season but it is unknown if he can be counted on to be healthy for a whole season. Ingram is a great value pick here and addresses a need.

    Second Round

    33. New England Patriots (f/CAR ) - Aaron Williams CB/S Texas - Merriweather's offseason troubles will leave the the Pats with some questions in the secondary.
    34. Buffalo Bills - Ben Ilijana OT Villanova - Bills need tackle help
    35. Cincinnati Bengals - Mike Pouncey OG/C Florida - have to protect the new future of the franchise
    36. Denver Broncos - Corey Liuget DT Illinois - John Fox continues rebuilding the 4-3 defense
    37. Cleveland Browns - Christian Ballard DE/DT Iowa - Ballard's versatility will help the Browns as they also transition back to a 4-3.
    38. Arizona Cardinals - Christian Ponder QB FSU - Ponder is a smart QB that Whisenhunt will be able to coach up. Should be a good fit with the Cards offense.
    39. Tennessee Titans - Ryan Mallet QB Arkansas - With Vince Young out of the picture the QB position needs to be addressed. If they resign Kerry Collins he would be a perfect mentor for Mallet. Mallet is essentially a young Kerry Collins. Same style of QB and same type of character issues (Collins was an alcholic and there are rumors that Mallet uses hard drugs).
    40. Dallas Cowboys - Rahim Moore S UCLA - Safety is a big question mark for the Cowboys
    41. Washington Redskins - Jake Locker QB Washintgton - Shanhan lucks out and Locker falls to the Skins in the second.
    42. Houston Texans - Ras I-Dowling CB UVA - Texans need to continue addressing the pourous defense.
    43. Minnesota Vikings - Martez Wilson LB Illinois - Ben Leber may not be back.
    44. Detroit Lions - Bruce Carter LB UNC - LB is a big need for the Lions
    45. San Francisco 49ers - Akeem Ayers LB UCLA - I think Harbaugh believes in Alex Smith and they may try to resign him.
    46. Denver Broncos (f/MIA ) - Kelvin Sheppard LB LSU - Broncos address all three levels of the defense with their first 3 picks
    47. St. Louis Rams - Johnathan Baldwin WR Pitt - Has character issues but the Rams need to try and find a number 1 WR.
    48. Oakland Raiders - Johnny Patrick CB Louisville - The Raiders have a huge hole at CB
    49. Jacksonville Jaguars - Andy Dalton QB TCU - The Jags get there successor for Garrard. Gene Smith gets his man again.
    50. San Diego Chargers - Marcus Cannon OT TCU - San Diego needs to address the RT position
    51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Curtis Brown CB Texas - Barber is 36 years old. Talib is a derelict
    52. New York Giants - Mason Foster LB Washington - Bullock is getting up there and LB is a position of need.
    53. Indianapolis Colts - Rodney Hudson C FSU - Jeff Saturday's potential replacement
    54. Philadelphia Eagles - Clint Boling OG/RT - Eagles have some holes on the o-line. Boling can play interior or RT.
    55. Kansas City Chiefs - Leonard Hankerson WR Miami - Compliment to Bowe, KC's young offense nuclues is emerging
    56. New Orleans Saints - Mikel Leshoure RB Illinois - Great value pick. Saints had the injury bug hit them hard in the backfield last year.
    57. Seattle Seahawks - Stephan Paea DT Oregon St -
    58. Baltimore Ravens - Curtis Marsh CB Utah St - CB is a glaring need for the Ravens D
    59. Atlanta Falcons - Kyle Rudolph TE Notre Dame - The Falcons luck out and get the eventual replacement for Tony Gonzalez
    60. New England Patriots - Marvin Austin DT UNC - Adds depth to the Pats d-line
    61. San Diego Chargers (f/NYJ ) - Jerrell Jerrigan Troy - Rivers did alot of damage with alot of "no name" recievers. The Chargers hope Jerrigan can be the player they thought Buster Davis was going to be.
    62. Chicago Bears - Drake Nevis DT LSU - Bears need to add depth to the D-Line after cutting Tommie Harris
    63. Pittsburgh Steelers - James Carpenter OT Alabama - Steelers o-line is a huge question mark
    64. Green Bay Packers - Kendrick Ellis DT Hampton - NT in the Packers 3-4

really good job from a Chiefs perspective. the 1st 4 picks are slam dunks. one thing to keep in mind is we really really need to draft a C somewhere in this draft. we have 2 high 5th round picks. Given this scenario, Tim Barnes would be a super guy to learn under Weigmann for a season and take over next year. Barnes fits our system very well.

Jarvis Jenkins is rated as the 77th best player on this site (consistent with many others) and you have him going 160th to the Bears. I'd take it, but WOW!

Near perfect Titans draft. Replace Fairley with Bowers in rd1 and then it's even better.

Give the Pats J.Jenkins in the 5th
Sheard over M.Austin also.. and this is a pretty good job.

A very solid SF draft. But if Locker fails into the second round I really think JH and company will try and trade with NE to grab that would be such a steal for us.But otherwise very solid.CK is alright pick in the fourth, but IMO would rather jump on locker in the second.

There a quite a few reaches among the Ravens picks.

I still maintain Torrey Smith is not worth pick 26, especially with bigger needs and the number of decent speed WRs available later in the draft.

Curtis Marsh is a good player but 2nd round is too early. Also CB is not a "glaring need" unless you mean a #1 CB. We have plenty of #2-type CBs

Romeus is a poor scheme fit and a reach in the 3rd. Linnenkohl is a reach in the 4th. What exactly do you think we'd do with Tyrod Taylor in the 5th?

There are better DBs available in the 6th than Rucker IMO too.

It'd be much better if it went something like this based on how your mock turned out
                  1. Brooks Reed/Justin Houston
                  2. Stephen Wisneiwski
                  3. Quan Sturdivant
                  4. Javaris Jenkins
                  5. Jacquizz Rodgers
                  5. Edmund Gates (who you dont have for some reason)
                  6. Richard Sherman
                  6. David Mims

That fills basically every one of our needs whilst still being close to BPA

One of the worst Phins drafts I've seen in a while. We have ZERO need for ANOTHER 5 Tech or safety. 5 Tech is the deepest position on our team and we already have two youngsters in Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons as our safeties of the future.

                      good saints first rounder

change leshoure for paea, better value, bigger need and paea actually fits in our D whereas LeShoure is a terrible fit in the saints O.

I have a huge dislike for McCarthey personally and dont think he is anything near draftworthy in the 3rd so I dont like the pick but the position makes sense.

Id also prefer a linebacker with that 2nd third rounder over an OL but the saints have had a tendancy to draft an OLine guy high pretty much every draft. Id pick irving though

                      Saints 2014 draft wish list:
                      - No pass rusher till the fourth round (or preferably at all)
                      - Corner or Wideout in the first
                      - No reaching
                      - No Kelvin Benjamin

First two rounds are very solid for Denver. This
                        67. Denver Broncos - Ryan Williams RB Va Tech
is not very good though. This type of pick is like a last resort if our draft board is decimated. On your board you have several viable options still though. Sturdivant, Bailey or Franklin to name a few.

Overall not a bad Patriots mock.

Ive said it before in other mocks but I really can't see Belichick passing over Mike Pouncey three times. He fills a need, presents good value at the top of the second, was a captain and a senior and comes from Urban Meyer's offensive system in Florida.

If the Pats wait to the end of the second before selecting a 5 tech prospect it is way more likely to be Allen Bailey than Marvin Austin as it seems they have shown a lot of interest in Bailey and Austin would likely be off their board.

Other than that I have no major qualms with the mock

That's a really nice Mock for the Rams.

I don't see Anthony Costanzo going that high or Mark Ingram going that low. But he it's the draft so who the heck really knows.
