  • Panthers may sign Darius

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors

The Carolina Panthers, according to sources, are interested in signing free agent safety Donovin Darius, who was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills are also interested, but it would seem reasonable that Darius, 32, would join a team that gives him a shot to win the Super Bowl, and the Panthers are closer to that goal than Oakland and Buffalo.

are you joking? You already have Mike Doss, Darren Sharper, Dwight Smith, Tank Williams, Greg Blue. Do you really need any more?

yeah those guys are perrenial pro bowlers. Other than Darren Sharper no one on that list excites me. Greg Blue could be decent but needs to improve his coverage skills drastically. Doss could be a decent player, but hes nothing spectacular. Safety is definetly not our strong point....

The revolving door at the other safety spot next to Minter has really become a joke of late but seeing as the most talented guy on the roster is a 7th round pick who was a CB in college I guess there's no harm in bringing in Darius and praying he's healthy for 10 games

IDk. I mean he still has some left in him but dont the Panthers have enough ageing secondary personell already. They should be trying to get younger at that area.

Darius in his prime was one of my favourite players in the NFL. The past 2 years have really sucked for him, but he would be a solid pick up for any contender who needs safety help. Personally I think the Panthers aren't a contender at all, maybe for the NFC but whatever. I could see him going to a team the Giants even though IMO they are a worse team, but he went to Syracuse and grew up in Jersey, I think he could make it work close to home and he could help out a fairly weak secondary. The only issue there is if Gibril Wilson can play FS and I honestly don't know if he could, he'd probably be better at it than Demps though and with Darius at SS their defense would immediately get smarter, stronger and more experienced with another veteran leader. IDK though, Im just speculating.

It's like if the Lakers brought back Gary Payton to play PG again. You could get younger by smashing your face into the wall with Smush Parker or you could get a guy who used to be good and might only be slightly embarrassing

Only in the safety spot, other three corners are young bucks.

I wish Oakland would sign him. I loved him and still do. He's still a solid player who has some gas left in the tank.
