  • Brian Dawkins vs. Ed Reed: Who is the best FS in the league?

I'm a huge fan of Dawkins myself but Reed seems to get to the ball everytime it's thrown. It's a real tough toss-up for me and I honestly can't decide who is better. What do you guys think?

Well the thing is, Dawkins is a great playmaker himself, one of the best in the league, he gets picks and he forces a lot of fumbles and gets sacks and everything, he is an emotional leader, there is nothing he's bad at, but hes known as a big hitter....Ed Reed on the other hand is known for his ballhawking skills because he is probly one of the best ever in terms of ballhawking, but its not as if he isn't a big hitter or a force in run support. These guys are both great all around safeties.
Yeah. Probably wasn't all too clear, but I was trying to say that Dawkins can do just about everything that a Safety is called upon, while Reed is that ballhawk that's always going for the big play. But at the same time, that Dawkins is a huge playmaker and Reed is probably the third best safety in terms of all-around ability. Really though, you couldn't go wrong with either, and they're without a doubt head and shoulders above the rest.

I think they are without question the best two safeties in the league (maybe you can throw Polamalu into the mix), and I am huge fans of both of em. But I guess I would take Reed if it came down to it, he defines the terms ballhawk and playmaker.

This is very hard, their probably the two both best Saftys in the game today. I'm just gonna go Reed.

That last int with the lateral was a total screw job by the refs. You think they'd learn not to be overzealous blowing their whistle. That could've easily been the only TD the Ravens needed. Seeing that again really pisses me off.

so its between Dawkins and A Dub for most complete Safety

even though i probally take Reed over both of em
Reed would have a lot more tackles if the Ravens' defense wasn't so good.
That's a one-sided argument though, because the pressure Reed's front seven creates forces inaccurate passes (if that), and the additional help he receives from the secondary allows him to gamble as crazily as he does for picks.

    Best highlight reel EVER
I've seen that before; it's freaking awesome.
Requiem for a Dream soundtrack does that to highlights.

Reed- slightly more athletic, a bigger playmaker at this point
Dawkins- hits harder, superior in run support and blitzing, also has a knack for knocking the ball out, veteran knowledge and the heart and soul of philly's defense.

I'd say Reed is #1 but it's very close.

i may be a homer, but i dont see how it cant be ed reed........

the entire nfl watched as ed reed flew to every ball against indy......

i agree that dawkins is a more intimidating prescence, but reed is no slouch..... i acually think hes going for those monster hits more than wrappping up somtimes...... if hes a little late getting to the reciever, he will lower his shoulders and bring pain.....
