  • QB Tim Couch signs with Jags

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 29, 2007) -- Former No. 1 draft pick Tim Couch signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, getting a chance to revive his career as a backup to quarterback Byron Leftwich.

Couch, the top pick by Cleveland in 1999, hasn't played a down in the NFL since the 2004 preseason.

But Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio wanted to take a look at the former Kentucky star who had shoulder surgery last year. The Jaguars needed another quarterback in training camp because third-stringer Quinn Gray has an ankle injury and is on the physically unable to perform list.

The Jaguars also have backup David Garrard and undrafted rookie Lester Ricard.

He's going to be the training camp, 4th string QB. When Quinn Gray comes off the PUP, Couch will be the 5th string QB, maybe 4th if he is better than Lester Ricard.

Yeah, he will probably be cut.

That would be funny if he makes the team, fills in for a injured starter and tears the NFL up while leading the Jags to Superbowl win.. Hey a guy can dream right?

Couch was the perfect way not to treat a young QB.

Tim Couch under center is about as useful as hunting a bear with a watergun, and Im not talking supersoakers either.
