  • All-NFL Expansion Team

Just a fun little exercise that anybody is free to take part in. Put together a team of any current NFL players as if you were the owner of an expansion franchise. You're obviously in it for both the short and long term. Here is my team:

    Offence:

    QB: Vince Young
Has all the tools to become an elite quarterback in this league and is already very good. Has great size and mobility which is a big plus for me. Great intangibles and a proven winner.

    RB: Adrian Peterson
Beast. Do it all runningback who can handle 30 touches a game if necessary. Has speed, power, elusiveness, vision, and a great attitude for the position. Will be a star in the league for a long time.

    WR: Larry Fitzgerald
Young receiver with a ton of experience already and one of those guys who will catch anything you toss at him. Playmaker in every sense of the word and should be good for 1000+ yards every year.

    WR: Dwayne Bowe
Rookie who has played sensationally thus far. Physical and the type of player every coach wants. Should be a star for many years in this league.

    WR: Calvin Johnson
Physical specimen with the production to back up his impressive triangle numbers. Has already shown great ability in his rookie season and should continue to get better as he learns the nuances of the position.

    TE: Vernon Davis
Great blocker and one of the greatest physical specimens the NFL has ever seen. Great work ethic and should develop into a top-tier receiver with some refining of his technique.

    LT: Michael Roos
Young left tackle who has shown flashes of brilliance and is already a very good player. Has Pro-Bowl potential and should be a dominant force for the better part of a decade.

    LG: Logan Mankins
Touch, physical guard who rarely makes mistakes. Great technician with good physical ability to back it up. Can move around on pulls and really open up some lanes in the running game.

    C: Nick Mangold
All-around center who has shown great leadership and will more than likely make multiple Pro-Bowls in his career. Makes all the right calls along the line and does a great job blocking.

    RG: Shawn Andrews
Mountain of a man with great strength and surprising mobility. Already has a few years experience but is still very young. Type of player that will open gaping holes in the run game and neutralize huge defensive tackles.

    RT: Jason Peters
Great athlete who has shown dominance at left tackle at a very young age. Should be an elite bookend for a decade. Dominant in both the pass and run game. Has the size and strength to play right tackle.

    Defence:

    DE: Osi Umenyiora
Great player who is already a top-tier defensive end and is still very young. Dominant against the pass and can really get after the run as well.

    DT: Amobi Okoye
Rookie who has shown great promise. Youngest player in NFL history and has already proven to be a great penetrator. Makes plays in the backfield in both run and pass situations.

    DT: Tommie Harris
Another explosive penetrator who makes a ton of plays in the backfield. Very young considering his experience in the league and a constant threat to knife into the backfield and ruin a play.

    DE: Mario Williams
Amazing physical specimen who dominates in both the pass and run game. Huge presence along the defensive line who demands a double team every play but will still make plays.

    SLB: A.J. Hawk
All-around linebacker who has big-time ability. Has the size, speed, and instincts to match up with backs and tight ends in the pass game and is a terror for opposing rushing attacks.

    MLB: Patrick Willis
Rookie playmaker who flies to the ball and lays the lumber. Can be a thumper on the inside or use his amazing athleticism to play the pass or run to the sidelines and make a play.

    WLB: Ernie Sims
Young, explosive playmaker who is always around the ball. Hard to block due to his athleticism he is a threat to knife into holes and drop ballcarriers for a loss.

    CB: Leon Hall
Gamer who has shown the ability to make big-plays as well as solid coverage ability. Should continue to improve and it would be no surprise to see him earn a few Pro-Bowl births.

    CB: Richard Marshall
Tough, physical cornerback who will make plays in both the run and pass game. Great mentality and one of those players who rises to a big challenge.

    FS: Sean Taylor
Best physical specimen to ever play the safety position and an attitude that is perfect for what he is. Grim reaper who punishes every offensive player he comes across. Extremely versatile and allows for a ton of flexibility when drawing up defensive schemes.

    SS: LaRon Landry
Big-hitter with great range who is always around the play. Ballhawks against the pass and makes quarterbacks think twice about throwing deep. Can come up into the box and act like another linebacker thanks to his great size.

That'd be an awfully expensive team to field.

For LT, I never saw McNeil. I think he'd be a good choice for left tackle and he is young.

He also has a back condition that could end his career at any moment.
