Haynesworth has to be franchise tagged, that's absolutely true. I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise, quite honestly.

Plus I think it would be beneficial before investing in Haynesworth long-term/big money.

Ugh, that's painful to see KGB is still the 8th highest paid DE. Surprised to see Franks isn't on there. Where'd you get those numbers from? I'd like to check his salary.

Holy crap, there are some seriously overpaid players there.

$4.522M for Clark isn't too bad, I suppose.

I heard Schefter today say that the Seahawks are considering that, which is very interesting. They essentially run a Tampa 2 in everything but name only, so it's somewhat understandable in that respect. But if they're letting Trufant test the open market just so they can franchise tag their kicker ... that's just stupid imo. He's a blasted kicker, you've spent years and millions developing Trufant into a Pro Bowl corner.

Granted they've spent some early picks on corners the last few years, Kelly Jennings in 06 and Josh Wilson last year, but I wonder how fully they could replace Trufant as the Big Show has one last year to try and win another championship.

This is going to be a boring off season if every big name player gets franchised by their team.

Jared Allen will get the tag but the team will try to work out a long term deal afterwards.

I don't think the discussion should be over who will get tagged or not. But more-so who is going to have a real problem with being tagged and be a distraction in the offseason.

I think with guys like Briggs and Samuels being the squeaky wheel and essentially getting out of the tag after one year a lot more players agents will be whispering for them to make a fuss in order to get it put into their contract that they will only play under the tag for 1 year.

Keep in mind, a franchised player is either given the league wide franchise tender, OR 120% value on his last year cap hit (i.e. not necessarily what he was actually paid last year, but his cap hit).

So Haynesworth, for instance, had a cap hit of around $6M according to the figures above, and the tender for a DT is $6.3M. However, 120% of Albert's 07 cap hit is $7.2M or so, so he would be franchised at $7.2M.

Still a VERY reasonable number given his services in 07, and the risk a long term deal offers.

You are right OzTitan. Here is the exact number from Rotoworld.
Haynesworth, who made just over $5.5 million last year, would get $7.25 million in 2008. Because Haynesworth's '07 salary was so high, he'd get a 20% raise instead of the average of the top five players at his position's salaries.
And for Terrell Suggs. Here is the latest:
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Ravens will place the franchise tag on prospective free agent DE Terrell Suggs.

rightfully so. If he did move teams it would be a shocker.
