  • Immediate impact from your 2009 draft class

What likely impact will your team's rookies have in 2009? Obviously this isn't a 100% science with injuries and all, but your best guess

Michael Crabtree, WR- Likely will backup Josh Morgan at the SE position. Isaac Bruce will have the FL position locked up, at least early on. Crabtree backs up Morgan to start the year and gets rotated in. If he does start it will likely be midseason.

Glen Coffee, RB- The 49ers wanted a backup RB to take 10-12 carries a game, play special teams, and carry the load if need be. Coffee will do just that as a rookie.

Scott McKillop, ILB- Backup/STer. Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes have the starting ILB jobs locked down this year. Jeff Ulbrich is also a decent backup and is a great STer, so it might be tough for McKillop to see a lot of PT his rookie year.

Nate Davis, QB- 3rd stringer, emergency inactive.

Bear Pascoe, TE- Blocking TE. May see some passes in the red zone.

    Curtis Taylor, S- Backup, STer.

Ricky Jean Francois, 3-4 DE- Backup, STer.

This rookie class probably won't have a huge immediate impact, but this draft was more set up for the future.

    New England Patriots;

Patrick Chung-Will start the season backing up James Sanders but could be the full time starter as early as week 5. Will probably see a lot of early action particularly when we play 3 safeties. Eventually will be the obvious replacement for Rodnay Harrison

Ron Brace-Will back up Vince Wilfork and spell him from time to time. May see quite a bit of action in 4 man fronts and goal line situations. Won't be on the field often in passing situations though

Darius Butler-Will go into training camp probably 5th on the depth chart but should unseat Wilhite pretty quickly. Depending on how quickly he picks up the playbook and how well Wheatley does injury wise he could see extended time as the nickel and may even take Springs place if he slides inside to safety

Sebastian Vollmer-Will probably spend the entire season in a backup role barring injuries. His upside is tremendous but isn't ready to come in a play just yet. May become starter at RT by the end of the season

Brandon Tate-Most likely will start the season on the PUP list and if he sees any action at all this year it will be in a return capacity. However I would very surprised if he doesn't spend the entire season on IR

Tyrone McKenzie-Would have competed for playing time inside until he was lost for the season

Rich Ohrnberger-Will have his work cut out in training camp to earn a roster spot and if he does wont see the field barring injuries

    George Bussey-Likely practice squad player

Jake Ingram-Will start from day one and should keep the position for 10 years

Myron Prior-Will struggle to make the roster based on sheer numbers on the defensive line

Julian Edelman-May make the roster if he has a good training camp and would be used at WR and in the wildcat(if used)

Darryl Richard-The same can be said as was for Prior

      For the Packers:

BJ Raji, NT - Likely to start from day 1 spending time at both nose tackle and end.

Clay Matthews, OLB - Again the smart money is on him starting right away opposite Aaron Kampman.

TJ Lang, OT/G - Will battle Breno Giacomini for the right tackle job, will be one of the top backups along the OL.

Quinn Johnson, FB - Should be able to beat out Korey Hall and John Kuhn for the starting gig due to his lead blocking abilities.

Jamon Meredith, OT - Will backup several positions along the OL, could enter the battle for the RT position.

Jairus Wynn, DE - Backup, not a definite to make the final cut.

Brandon Underwood, CB - May have to show some special teams ability to make the roster.

Brad Jones, OLB - Seems like a good developmental guy, I think he ends up on the practice squad but others are higher on him.

There is also talk that WR Jamarko Simmons and RB Tyrell Sutton could push for roster spots.

        Bears:

DL Jarron Gilbert - Will likely see time as part of a rotation for both the base end spot and at UT.

WR Jaquin Iglesias - Will probably be the 4th receivers tops.....maybe 3rd if the team finally decides it's had enough of Rashied Davis. Gets a few passes his way but I doubt he does much else.

DE Henry Melton - Maybe sees some time as a pass rush specialist...doubtful he sees a whole lot more.

CB DJ Moore - Probably has the best chance to see a lot of time on the field. The team is unhappy with Vasher and just moved his backup Corey Graham to full-time FS. So he could definitely see some action as a nickel or dime back or potentially even work his way into the starting lineup.

WR Johnny Knox - Probably special teams duty mostly. Doubt he sees the field on offense much.

LB Marcus Freeman - Will compete for the starting SAM spot but will mostly likely be a backup and special team player.

After that....theres a good chance that the picks don't even make the active roster. So yeah....doubt they do much.

Brian Robiskie will likely start opposite Braylon Edwards, and David Veinuke should be in the linebacker rotation at LILB or OLB. Alex Mack will start at center.

Mohamed Massaqoui probably will be the #4 WR.
Coye Francies and Don Carey will compete for the #3/#4 corner slots, but at worst will be the #5 and #6 corners.
Kaluka Maiava will be a special teamer and the backup nickel linebacker to Leon Williams probably.
James Davis will be the 3rd tailback, could see a lot of carries if Harrison or Lewis gets hurt.
If any UDFAs make the squad it'll probably be either Marlon Davis (OG from Alabama), or Jordan Norwood (if we move Cribbs' official position to safety).

Donald Brown - RB: Donald Brown will come in and split carries with Joe Addai. Addai has been injured a lot in the last year and a half, and had a poor season last year, but the team will be hoping that by limiting Addai's carries then they can keep him at the top of his game for the entire season. Brown will carry the ball maybe 1/3 of the time next season.

Fili Moala - UT: Moala will initially play in a DT rotation but should, if he performs to his ability, will make the position his own. We have a couple of players who started there last year in Dawson and Foster, as well as brining back Ed Johnson, so Moala will split time, but in terms of talent he is above them all and will by the end of the year be the definite starter at that position.

Jerraud Powers - CB: Powers is probably the 4th or 5th CB on the Roster but will probably become the Nickel Cornerback after Training Camp. He doesn't have the size to be a starting CB but has really good coverage skills and will line up well against Slot Receivers and quickly replace Tim Jennings as the Nickle Corner.

Austin Collie - WR: Collie will contribute as a gunner on Special Teams initially, and if he impresses in Training Camp, then he will start at Slot Reciever. Currently, the 3rd Reciever is probably Pierre Garcon but if Collie impresses then he will start there. I expect Collie will be starting after a number of weeks at the latest.

Terrance Taylor - NT: Taylor will play this year and will probably start after a number of weeks as the 2 Down NT currently occupied by Antonio Johnson, but they will probably keep a rotation between Taylor and Johnson for the rest of the year.

Curtis Painter - QB: Painter won't play. Sorgi will continue to be the backup to Manning while Painter will sit behind them, learn the Playbook and improve his game. He could see action in Week 17 if Jim Caldwell continues the previous trend of pulling the starters then Painter could play.

Pat McAfee - K/P: Because Hunter Smith signed for Washington, McAfee will come in a start straight away at Punter. He could possibly also handle kickoffs.

Jamie Thomas - OG: Because a lot of the Rookies on the Offensive Line had playing time last year, Jamie Thomas may struggle to make the 53. If Ryan Lilja is on PUP list or IR'd then Thomas will make the Roster and, like all the Rookies last year, could see some action in a rotation.

Aaron Curry- Already has the starting job locked up.

Max Unger- Battling for the LG spot with Mike Wahle. He'll probly be a backup at LG/C this year but if the starters get injured, he'll take their place for good.

Deon Butler- Will most likely start ou as the 4th ER, but with Branch's injury history I see him at #3 sooner than later. He's been very impressive in camp and there's been talk of trading Branch.

Mike Teel- 3rd string QB, if he impresses he might free up Seneca to do other things without so much fear of him getting hurt.

Courtney Greene- I think every Seahawk fan is hoping this kid or one of the other young guys steps up and takes Brian Russell's job. Battling Jamar Adams and C.J. Wallace for 2 roster spots.

Nick Reed- Could take a roster spot from Baraka Atkins, but I doubt it.

Cameron Morrah- Battling Joe Newton and John Owens for 2 roster spots. Doesn't have to do much to be Carlson's backup and get PT in 2 TE sets.

WR Jeremy Maclin - Probably won't start right away but still might have a significant role in the offense because the eagles like to rotate their receivers and keep them fresh. Will see action in both the slot and on the outside and I"d imagine will be used in some gimmicky plays as well such as reverses. Will compete for return duties as well.

RB LeSean McCoy - Right now it looks like he is already the #2 RB on the depth chart. Will gradually take carries away from Westbrook throughout the season and I'm sure there will be some packages where they are both on the field at the same time to mess with defenses even more.

TE Corneilus Ingram - Will compete for the #2 TE position and most likely win it because he's competing with Matt Schobel. The eagles are going to use him all over the field from the traditional TE position to the slot to the outside. Will be used in redzone packages as well.

DB Victor Harris - Competing for the backup FS position and will most likely win it due to his potential. Will probably see a little action on defense both at safety and at CB in nickel packages. Will see the bulk of his action on special teams.

OL Fenuki Tupou, WR Brandon Gibson, OL Paul Fanaika, LB Moise Fokou - Due to depth throughout the whole team, these 4 guys will have a rough time making the roster. If they do however, it will most likely be in a backup role.

Agreed on Maclin... We won't see too much of him unless he pulls what DeSean did last year. I'm not expecting it, but holy cow would that be awesome.

Agreed on McCoy. He already has #2 RB sewn up, and will continue so, barring injury. We won't see him as much in plays where he is required to pass block, as it is not a strength of his, but he will see plenty of action on the field.

As far as I'm concerned, with from what I've heard that the coaches have said, Ingram has #2 TE sewn up as well, as long as he is healthy. I was expecting a competition when we drafted him, but with how he's come in and impressed everyone, I think we will be seeing him a lot (relatively speaking). I think Schoebel is actually battling UDFA Eugene Bright for the 3rd TE spot more than he is battling Ingram for #2.

Victor Harris is backing up Quentin Demps at FS for the most part, and is technically in a battle for the #2 FS position, but I'd bet almost anything he makes the roster, and I agree he will see some action as a CB, though maybe not as much as some Eagles fans are thinking.

Fenuki Topou is battling Winston Justice for the backup RT position. It will be a tough battle, but i could see him coming out on top. i am a big fan of his though.

Brandon Gibson will battle for our #6 WR postion, most likely with Reggie Brown. I don't see the Eagles keeping 6 WRs this season, so he may not even make the roster if he beats Reggie Brown in that position battle.

Paul Fanaika is our typical late round OL who will come in and battle and keep competition up in TC. With all the depth we have along OL, especially the interior of our OL, I can't see him making the team.

Moise Fokou right now is slated as the #3 WLB, and we don't carry more than two, so the only way i see him making the team is if one of the guys in front of him would be released, and that is very unlikely.

Maclin will see a bunch of time as a returner, and Harris will see plenty of time all around ST.

Tyson Jackson - Will likely start in any (4-3, 3-4, 4-3u) fronts.

Alex Magee - I see him as a rotational guy. Could see a good deal of playing time but I don't see him starting this year. Kind of a project.

Donald Washington - More of a 3rd/4th CB. The two starting spots seem to be locked up with Brandon Carr and baller Brandon Flowers.

Colin Brown - Backup could see spot duties at RT/RG. Those were major trouble spots for us last year.

Quinten Lawrence - To be honest, I don't see this guy sticking past training camp with all the WR talent we have now.

Javarris Williams - We have a pretty loaded backfield, with LJ, Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles. Could hang on as 4th RB.

Jake O'Connell - Could be used in 2 TE sets as a blocker. Don't know much about him or how often Haley will use 2 TE sets.

Ryan Succop - Will battle Connor Barth for the starting job and I personally think he will lose. Connor did well last year and will only improve. Was good at UNC and I think he could have the job locked up.

This is in no way how they end up, just how I see it working out.

Percy Harvin---Most likely will begin the season returning kicks and punts on special teams. When it comes to the receiver spot, I think he'll start 4th on the depth chart behind Rice, Wade and Berrian. I'm predicting (especially if Favre returns) he'll be #3 on the chart by season's end.

Phil Loadholt---Unless he comes on strong at camp and pre-season, he'll most likely begin the season as a back-up to Ryan Cook.

Asher Allen---Tough call when it comes to Allen. He'll obviously start the season anywhere from 3rd to 5th. With a strong summer, he can be the dime back.

Jasper Brinkley---I really like Brinkley's future with the team. I imagine he'll stay on the team for depth to start with, but if E.J. Henderson for some reason can't stay healthy, then Brinkley could fight for a starting spot.

Jamarca Sanford---If he is kept on the team, his main purpose will be on the pine.

Percy Harvin - I see him fighting for the 3rd spot with Rice and maybe could take the 2nd spot at the end of the year over wade. He will also return kicks and might see him in the backfield.

Phil Loadholt - He needs to be a day one starter. Ryan Cook does not deserve to be the starting RT. He showed little improvement over the years and Loadholt can come in and start week 1.

Asher Allen - He will mainly be fighting with Karl Paymah and Charles Gordon for the Nickel and Dime positions. I dont know if he could play Special Teams but if he could that would be great because our special teams needs to get better.

Jasper Brinkley - He will mainly be a special teams/ back up to EJ Henderson.

Jamarca Sanford - If he makes the team he might be used on special teams but I have the feeling he wont make the team. He might be Practice Squad.
