  • Jeff Garcia back in Philadelphia

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4472548

I f'd up the thread title, I know. I was just watching the South Carolina game on espnu and miscombobulated my brain.

What does this mean for the Eagles? I personally think its because they dont trust Kevin Kolb. He really blew another opportunity to impress when he came in for McNabb against the Panthers. I also think its interesting to see how this impacts Michael Vick. He's eligible to play in Week 3 after the Saints game this weekend, but I don't think Reid trusts him yet to run the offense. Garcia's experience with the Eagles playbook, which he operated to a 5-1 record a few years ago when McNabb was hurt, may give him an actual chance to play over Kolb (depending on how long McNabb is out, if at all). This definitely throws some question marks into the Eagles qb depth chart.

I've never seen Kolb as the future...in my opinion he was always a wasted pick. I wouldn't trust Vick either with my team...so I think this worked out just perfect for philly

          Jeff Garcia.

Good move, provides the Eagles with a heady, seasoned #2 QB that has led the team to the Playoffs in the past. He knows the offense extremely well, he played in the WCO in Detroit when Marty Morninwheg was the coach (now the Eagles offensive coordinator), played in the WCO for the Eagles and had spent the past 2 years in a WCO down in Tampa Bay.

This leaves the Eagles with the best QB depth in the NFL, Garcia, Vick and Kolb.

From what I can tell this means that McNabb will not be back until after the week 4 bye week.

flight of the concords reference, if i'm not mistaken. From the Rhymenocerous and Hiphopopotamus song.

Oh wait now i get it...i originally wrote steve in the title. Fortunately the Eagles did not sign the South Carolina qb.

Or maybe because going into a game with 1 QB on your roster is a bad idea no matter who the 1 QB is?

So then why would you sign a #2 qb to ride #3 or #4 on the depth chart? I'm sure when they got Jeff to sign he expected to be the next guy in if McNabb gets hurt. This isn't a one game contract. I think his experience in this offense at least warrants the question of what they plan for him outside of this game.

Because players get injured and you need to have someone, especially at QB who can come in should that happen.

Why do you think teams have backup QB's in the first place?

What would happen if Kolb got hurt with no backup? Run the wildcat exclusively for the rest of the game?

this point seems redundant. I'm not questioning why the Eagles would sign a QB, you obviously need to have an active backup. I simply find it interesting that it was Jeff Garcia, of all people. Where does this put him after this week?
