  • Week 1 NFL Disappointments

Here's an article on some of the biggest disappointments from Week 1 thought some of them were pretty funny. Feel free to share your own list of biggest disappointments from Week 1 games.

I would say McNabb getting hurt and McKelvin fumbling and giving the patriots the win.

In the 3rd quarter of the Vikings-vs-Browns game, Brett Favre connected with rookie Percy Harvin for a 6-yard TD. The first of Harvin’s career and almost his last. Favre sprinted down the field and instead of the formal chest-bump, Favre tackled Harvin in celebration. Seconds later to the dismay of NFL fans everywhere, Percy Harvin got up to his feet. I was hoping he had a serious injury (that sounds mean…really mean) caused by Favre’s celebratory rape-like tackle. That would have provided enough entertainment for the entire NFL season.
        Lmfao... god damn Favre...

Not a Raider fan but no doubt Russell has to be frustrating to the fans there in Oakland. Physically his added weight tells me he really doesnt give a #### and is probably headed down the Culpepper road eventually.

His accuracy is terrible, it's not like he misses the short or the long routes he misses everything on a fairly regular basis. Had to laugh at the Steve Young comment that they cut the field in half for Russell's reads. Here's a guy in his 3rd year out of LSU and a #1 pick and they have to cut the field in half? What does that say about the guy.

the refs call on the louis murphy td

            Saints 2014 draft wish list:
            - No pass rusher till the fourth round (or preferably at all)
            - Corner or Wideout in the first
            - No reaching
            - No Kelvin Benjamin

Sort of hard to judge when the first 3 passes are on point, 2 dropped by stone hands, and 1 where a receiver runs behind the DB and causes an INT.

Jamarcus has some issues with his decision making, but his accuracy has never really been a problem when he has time to set up and throw.

I honestly don't know how he had 13 TDs and only 8 picks last year, given how terrible the pass blocking is, and how poor the receiving core is.

I kind of felt bad for him when he got his actual first TD because he threw the ball into the crowd. Most rookies keep theirs and it seemed like the kind of heat of the moment thing players end up regretting.

Cutler was a huge disappointment as was the entire panthers offense.

I hated seeing the Pats come back too, everyone loves an underdog.

Disappointed that Russell didnt have one of his good games on MNF. He is still young at 23 years old and will be up and down this year. I expect a better performance at KC. Also kind of mad at DHB. 1 drop? ok thats fine your a rookie. But after that there is no way to defend your self. It will take him a while to become a NFL WR but I mean come on man

It's pretty damning. I can understand if you have a hard time getting off a jam or 2 in your first game, you can understand if his routes aren't crisp and are a little sloppy. But catching the ball takes no new skill, it is not something that becomes harder at the next level and it is a really bad sign of a lack of concentration, if you are doing that in your first game it's only going to get worse...

That was the most disappointing thing from the Raiders.

Props to BK on the sig!

No his accuracy just flat out sucks. When he does have time to set up throw its 50/50 that the ball will either be catchable or it'll be 10 yards away from the nearest reciever.Gradkowski showed better touch when he was in the game.

I'll be the last one to say that Jamarcus is playing the way that I want him to because, to be honest, he really frustrated me all game except for a couple passes on Sunday. If Russell makes those throws, the Raiders run away with the game. But he didn't and we all know how Monday night's game ended. (that was heart breaking)

On the other hand, a lot of those passes didn't seem to be mechanical issues, but they seemed to be miscommunications. With 2 rookie WRs and JLH as his targets out wide, one could see that the receivers were not in the place where Russell was expecting them to be when he threw the ball. As S-T pointed out, the interception is a perfect example of this. Again, Russell should have taken this into consideration when he threw the ball (he threw it into coverage that was too tight) but if Murphy makes his cut sharp like he was supposed to, that's not an INT.

For evidence, look at how will Russell did throwing to his TEs and RBs in comparison to his WRs. He had something like a 75% completion percentage or better--these were not dink and dunk passes to Zach Miller. But every throw to Miller was a catchable ball. With his favorite target, Schilens, out I can understand a little bit why this happened. Now these guys need to get their #### together and figure this chemistry problem out the way that Schilens worked with Russell last season. I mean they should be out there past midnight with the floodlights on the practice field if they need to in order to get their communication issues fixed.

Let's see how the rest of the season goes. Russell certainly did a very good job in the last 6 weeks of 2008. As he gets more work in with the rooks he very well may see his numbers increase greatly.

                              Oldie but a goodie.
