They have to go for Pike in the draft and sign a veteran.
You do realise that in the last qtr of the year he won all but one game and had one of, if not the highest QB rating in the NFL.

This was facing some stiff competition too, Moore might not be perfect, but he won games and did so in extremely effective fashion.

In fact, there's not actually any reason he shouldn't be the starter. The line was missing both tackles and had back ups in at guard, Williams was out too and he still threw for 8 Tds, 2 ints over 1000 yards and a 98 QB rating.

Give him an offseason being groomed as the starter with a full compliment of players around him and there's no reason not to think he can improve upon what he did last year. In fact there wasn't even a game where he played poorly.

Let's be real here, folks, the Panthers aren't a passing team. Moore just needs to have enough talent to throw the ball to Steve Smith, not turn it over & hand off to Stewart & Williams.

Still, I would be skeptical. He only played a few games last season. He won't be able to sneak up on anyone this time. There have been a bunch of quarterbacks that have played well in a backup role down the stretch of a season and succeeded, only to fall flat on their faces the following year. Billy Volek, Damon Huard, with Shaun Hill maybe being the lastest one.

I thought Carolina would just ride it out and keep Delhomme as a backup and go with Moore as the starter.

If they still had the defense from five years ago, i'd agree with you, but it isn't that easy anymore. You can't just run the ball and dink and dunk on the passing end and expect to win. All signs are pointing that Moore can be a guy that can do more than just bus drive an offense. For their sake, they better hope he is, cause it looks like they'll be spending the next couple of years trying to develop him.

I was overgeneralizing, but my point is that he doesnt have to be Tom Brady for the team to do well on offense.

Won't be able to sneak up on anyone? He played in 08, extensively, it's not as if in 09 he got into the league, he's been around for quite a while and he destroyed the Vikings and Giants. It's not like in either of these games either team were resting starters too, Minnesota was still trying to gain ground with the saints trying to secure home field advantage. Moore threw for something like 80% of his passes and just under (299) 300 yards.

He's not some guy who's done nothing and then lit up scrub defenses because the starters were resting behind the brilliant line the team had in 08. He came into the season with a depleted and dejected offense around him and played well against strong opponents.

The defense was a little off in a new system last year, but the second half of the year was a lot better, what happens without Peppers, Kemo and Lewis which is pretty much the starting defensive line is going to be the biggest piece of the puzzle.

Right now though, the Panthers need to either keep Muhummad for find some vet receiver help for him and make sure they repair the defense, if they do that the team should be looking strong.

For all his faults as a player the last season, he would've sold programs before the games in the street if he thought it would help the team. This dude bleeds blue black and white and it's pretty sad to see him go. I really hoped the team would sign him or reduce his contract to be Moore's backup but the reality is, Jake is such a leader, and it's likely unintentionally so that his shadow would stunt moore's growth as a leader. It's a shame really.
