Tony G, and its not even close imo.

The man excelled in both receiving and blocking. And some of those years in KC the offense was pretty porous and he still manage to be productive. Even when defenses would key on him the entire game.

Shannon Sharpe is the best TE to ever play this game period.

People saying Tony G are too young to have seen Sharpe play.

I'd go Sharpe just over Tony Gonzalez. As a pure receiving TE, Sharpe was above Gonzo for sure.

Sharpe was flashier, but if I were writing the checks, I'd go with Gonzo.

Purely receiving? Id give it to Sharpe. The full package is Tony G.

And I remember clearly watching some great TEs, Keith Jackson, Ben Coates, Mark Bavaro, the list goes on.

So dont play the age card with me you whipper snapper. :-)

It's Tony G in any era. Shannon Sharpe couldn't even match his production and he played with John Elway for most his career.

Tony G and I saw Sharpe play. Tony G caught everything thrown to him.

I guess there is an exception to every rule.

Gonzalez for his play. Sharpe for the Sarah Jessica Parker impression. Sharpe did get to play in a lot of big games that Tony would give up a lot to have been involved in.

Tony G has more receiving yards, receptions, touchdowns and has the most receptions for a TE in a single season, so how exactly is Sharpe better?

Not to mention that for many years, Tony got it done with much less talent around him.

Does any other TE even come close to Gonzo's 82 career TDs? I believe his number of TD catches pretty much dwarfs any other TE ever.

Let me go ahead and cut this comeback off ahead of time:

"but, but Halsey, touchdowns are just a stat! They don't mean anything!"

Really? Touchdowns are just a stat? I'm pretty sure that's an offenses goal whenever they're on the field.

Gonzalez's touchdowns won't mean as much when Gates shatters his record in four fewer seasons.
