<+BOE> Scott, with Burfict's character concerns (whether legit or not) you think Pioli would draft him. :D
<+ScottWright> Why not. Baldwin does need a sparring partner...

    • Agree, dont have much of a recollection though of him in what you would call pass coverage. I know someone who would know for sure, Dave Krieg, former Seahawk QB.

He went to the Pro Bowl every year in his first 9 seasons. He was a 6 time All-Pro, a member of the all decade team for 90s. His 126 career sacks ranks 12th all-time, which is only 6 sacks behind Lawrence Taylor who ranks 8th (and who also played 2 more seasons).

His resume is pretty impressive. He, to this day, has been my favorite pass rusher I have ever seen. DeMarcus Ware could pass him, but Derrick Thomas legitimately deserves to be on this list, and surely is in contention with the top spot. You can't name 6 LBs and act like they are head-and-shoulders better than Derrick Thomas and then add "ect." to the end of that list and make him out to be some average schmuck that has no belonging. He belongs very high on the list, maybe even one notch higher.
Derrick Thomas was a great player.

But he's not in the top 5 OLBs of all time.

He wasn't first ballot HOF bc he had holes in his game. I like DT, and he was a great pass rusher, but that's predominately all he was.

It's why Kevin Greene hasn't gotten in yet. Greene was an even better one trick pony than DT. And like DT, Greene wasn't first ballot.

It's not just all about sack numbers. DT was a force no doubt, but unless he was in your backfield, he left a lot to be desired as a run stopper, and if you want to get technical, wasn't the greatest in coverage either.

He was the 90s version of Dwight Freeney.

        • DT is a top 5 3-4 olb/hybrid type. he was more that than a 4-3 OLB he spent more time rushing than anything. spent probably 35-40% of his snaps with his hand on the ground.

          • I guess I'll vote for Andre Tippett (4) for the final spot.
