  • Fired before season is halfway ?

Jon Fox, Eric Mangini, Mike Singletary...... which one will get canned in October?

Jon Fox, just tragic in winless Carolina. Delhomme sank their offense last yr like a rock, he needed a new QB & drafted Clausen, Moore announced as the starter. Then Moore played &, oh God........so in goes Clausen in Wk. 3 & he was actually worse. Fox has to play in the tough NFC South with a losing hand, Atlanta, New Orleans & surprisingly unbeaten Tampa Bay are holding all the talent & all the aces.

There are extenuating factors in Mangini's case -- he has an NFL icon & former HC as his boss in Cleveland, team Pres. Mike Holmgren, who is more than capable of shepherding the Browns through the rest of what looks to be as bad a season as any of their recent ones. And it's been speculated that Holmgren wants to bring in his own handpicked HC anyway, so Mangini has been on thin ice for awhile.

Then there's Singletary here in the Bay Area for the 9ers. They started the season with a road game disaster in Seattle where offensive communication fell apart, Alex Smith wasn't getting the right plays or any plays in some cases into the offense on the field, & OC Jimmy Raye's playcalling was awful, an offensive described as Gore off tackle right, Gore off tackle left, & Gore up the middle.

The HC diverted the negative attention somewhat by calling out a "rat" in the orgn. who leaked a story to Yahoo Sports on the locker room dissension about their dissatisfaction with the playcalling. Then in Wk. 2 they had the champion Saints at home in a Monday night game, Smith wore a wristband with the plays & they gave the champs all they wanted -- still lost. Then the Wk. 3 debacle in KC, OL pass protection collapsed, Smith ran for his life all day. The playcalling was abysmal again, with KC's defense seeming to know everything the transparent SF offense was going to do by what personnel were on the field. The 9ers defense missed assignments & got blocked while KC ran up 31 points unanswered until the last seconds of the 4th qtr. when this humiliating comedy ensued: the officials put 3 secs. back on the clock, Singletary called a pass to the end zone to salvage ... what? It connected to WR Josh Morgan for a pointless 7 points so they lost 31-10 vs. 31-3, Singletary salvaged his manhood I guess, but their best possession receiver Morgan got hurt on the play & will miss 2-3 wks. Even scoring Singletary's grandiose gesture was more destructive than constructive.

Immediately after returning to SF from KC the team announced the firing of OC Jimmy Raye. And yesterday SS Michael Lewis asked for his release, the 3rd 49er to do so this yr! 1st the backup RB leaves to join the ministry, OK, unusual but that happens...then Kentwan Balmer is implicated in the UNC players receiving illegal benefits scandal & is released (joined the division rival Seahawks < a wk. later), now their veteran safety, who was garbage, granted, wants out. I can't help but think of the analogy of those rats mentioned earlier leaving a sinking ship, clearly Singletary has lost this locker room on a team that was the preseason favorite to win the NFC West & is now the laughingstock of the league.

They have to go to Atlanta Sunday & then the Eagles, then Oakland, both at home. I don't hold much hope for a W in Atlanta as Singletary's road rcd. is a dismal 4-11. Lose to Atlanta & Philly to go 0-5 could be the end for his regime in SF, lose to the cross-Bay rival Raiders at home & I think it's the last nail in Singletary's coffin. It's just about stick a fork in him time......

Haley is coach fo the year thus far or Tomlin. But Tomlin is sex. Fox will be out at the end of the year stupid ownership. Coughlin will be gone. Mangini will be gone and Marty Mornweig(sp.) will be HC in Cleve. ummm

Just figured this was as good of a place as any to say that if the Bucs actually make my prediction and see a playoff game, I may have to start reconsider my position of fate, curses and the like.

Singletary's players are already quitting on him, just wait until they go 0-5. Singletary's tough guy act doesn't work when it's clear he's incompetent and that he is one of those people who will say one thing to your face and do another thing entirely when you're not around. That team is fast-tracked for implosion and I doubt Sing survives with his job intact. The media is already out for his blood.

          Mangini.
          They could potentially go 0-6.
          Bengals this week.
          Pittsburgh and NE (I think)

Especially if Eric Wright keeps starting.

You forgot to mention Tom Coughlin.

The Giants are a quickly turning into a dumpster fire, and if Coughlin can't sort his team out, he might be gone before the season is over.

It's so cute seeing eagles fans trying to rip on the giants. Coughlin may very well be replaced this summer if we fail to make the playoffs, but there's no way that this team losses their next 5 games to make that a reality before the halfway point of the season. We got torched by the Colts and made many dumb mistakes that cost us against the Titans game but this team is just too good for those mistakes to continue for weeks, there's just no way our luck is that incredibly bad.

Coughlin's superbowl win at least bought him the dignity of getting fired after a crappy season. They won't tell him to GTFO after 8 games.

Thanks to BK for the sig

Coughlin took the Giants to the playoffs four times and hasn't been under .500 since his first year. Oh yeah, he also won them a Super Bowl. To get fired after that he should have to have multiple seasons in a row that are just terrible.

Yeah but he was on the hot seat right before he went to the superbowl. He also has one of the more talented teams in the league to work with. I don't know if I would agree with it but he might get made a scape goat for a sub .500 season and get the axe from the impatient results-demanding New York organization and fans.

I think you have to add Coughlin and Phillips to that list as well. Although including them, he only one I see getting fired before the end of the year is Fox. Possibly Mangini, but I doubt Holmgren wants to take over coaching duties in that mess.

Coughlin and Phillips are out after the year regardless IMO. Singletary will be back no matter what.

Dolphins Dream Draft: 1. Jaylon Smith 2. Artie Burns 3. Landon Turner

The Bucs are currently 2-1 and exceeding anyones expectations. I doubt it.

Fox is in his last year of his contract. Why not just ride it out and part ways at the end (which is what most people have been thinking they'd do)?
                            Still Team The Ke$ha!!!

Yeah because Eric Wright had one bad game it means he sucks.
