  • 3-4 OLB Pass-Rush specialists from the 09 & 10 Drafts

Some of these were guys I wanted the Packers to look at the past 2 drafts to be our OLB in our new 3-4 scheme....

I know of course that Aaron Maybin is a king bust, and a few years earlier Gholston also a king bust.

But what's become of all of these guys who were projected by some to be good pass rushers for 3-4 teams?
Have they shown the ability to get to QBs?

It's amazing but EVERYONE had Maybin and Larry English rated ahead of Clay Matthews in the 2009 Draft, and many Cheeseheads wanted one of them.

I'm especially looking for info on the guys I have an * by, because I've really not seen/heard/noticed much from them and/or I really wanted the Packers to take this guy.....

    2009

    *Connor Barwin
    Cody Brown
    Larry English
    Victor Butler
    Paul Kruger
    Michael Johnson
    Lawrence Sidbury
    Aaron Maybin (everyone knows bust)
    David Veikune
    Robert Ayers
    Marcus Freeman
    *Clint Sintim
    Tyrone McKenzie
    Jason Williams

    2010

    *Jason Worilds
    Koa Misi
    Thaddeus Gibson
    Derrick Morgan
    Jason Pierre-Paul
    Brandon Graham (hurt?)
    Sergio Kindle (drunk?)
    *Jerry Hughes

Any info you can give if one of these guys is your team's guy is much-appreciated.
I'm still trying to figure out what made guys like Matthews and Orakpo into legit sackmasters...... I thought some of those above guys would be by now too. I know Misi got to Rodgers once last year damm*t! Helped them beat us, our only home loss of the season.

Tyrone McKenzie was drafted to play inside for the Patriots but got hurt during rookie camp. The emergence of Gary Guyotn plus Brandon Spikes and Dane Fletcher made him expendable and he was cut. Last I heard he was playing for the Bucs

Michael Johnson was a project when we drafted him. He started out as a defensive end in our 4-3, then got turned into a defensive end / linebacker hybrid when we started lacking depth at linebacker.

Also, he's stuck on the Bengals :(

We are trying to make Kruger a 34 DE. Everyone wrote him off as a bust. Im not until he actually gets at a 34 DE playing weight.

Sergio Kindle fell down a flight of steps and broke his skull. We still dont know iif he will play football again.

          Clint Sintim anyone?
          Connor Barwin?
Did Jason Worilds ever get any playing time this year in Sixburgh?
I don't think Harrison or Woodley went down at all?
I thought those guys could work.....

English showed potential his first year but was a step behind making more plays. He struggled with a major injury this year and only played about half the snaps as the previous year. Many of the times he did play he was limited by the injury. He showed a lot more improvement despite this, and towards the end of the year he had a few productive games and hopefully showed a glimpse of future success. I still think he has a good chance of living up to his billing and the team remains high on him as well. He is far from the bust that some are making him out to be. Dude just has to stay healthy and he will be a stud.

Koa Misi started all 16 games for the Dolphins but he never generated much pass rush. He is already a BEAST against the run though we brought in Bryan Cox as a pass rushing specialist to teach him how to get after the passer better.

Jason Worilds is studying behind James Harrison and excelling on special teams. He played only a few snaps on defense, and got a few sacks. Looks like a future starter.

Thaddeus Gibson got released due to numbers. I really liked the kid, but apparently he wasnt learning the defense which is a big no no in Pittsburgh. Hes currently with the 49ers and apparently they love him.

Connor Barwin was drafted by a 4-3 team and had success his rookie year. Last season in week one he broke his leg/dislocated an ankle and has been rehabing since. Big things are expected out of him as a 3-4 OLB and Wade Phillips has spoken highly of him, but until he does it the jury is still out...

Damn, injuries injuries injuries.... English, Barwin, half the Packers LBers..... this game is brutal, even for the attackers.

I thought Barwin had the skills for a 3-4 OLB. So the Texans are now going to a 3-4? I'll keep my eye on him, whenever I get to see the Texans. They sure need to improve that defense that's for sure.

It's far too early to start making assesments on most of these players.

Sintim has been stuck trying to make the transition to a 4-3 OLB and seems out of place with the Giants right now. High hopes for him, but he's really struggling adjusting to the 4-3 and I can't really blame him, it just doesnt fit his skill set.

That, and in Fewell's defense, he has no fit at LB at all. In Spag's system he was a JOKER at SAM, so it could still work, but being a weakside backer in Fewell's system just doesn't work for him.

Plus he lost weight to get lighter and quicker for the system, but that sapped all his strength away so he was just a mediocre player.

He needs to muscle up again and become a full time DE. Or go to a 3-4 team.

Barwin is gonna be a player when he gets healthy. I think OLB is his best position and his size and speed are elite, including his motor.

I wanted this guy bad for the Skins too, but it didn't work out.
