  • Seau returning to Pats

    May 12, 2007

There will be no retirement speech from Junior Seau this summer.

A source familiar with the situation said last night that the veteran linebacker will re-sign with the New England Patriots late next week, pending a physical exam.

Seau, 38, signed a one-year deal with the Patriots last year three days after announcing his retirement but was lost for the season after breaking his right forearm Nov. 26 against the Chicago Bears.
Despite missing the final five games, he ranked fifth on the team with 69 tackles. Seau played so well against the run that coach Bill Belichick personally phoned him this week to reiterate his interest in having Seau return.

Seau, an Oceanside native and former Chargers great, is entering his 18th NFL season.

Who has played the most seasons ever? I know Jerry Rice played 19 seasons.

More linebacker combinations is a good thing.....plus the old b@stard gives us depth.

he was a very good run stopper and most consistent LB we had back then. once he got hurt..our run D went downhill because Bruschi couldnt take the strongside inside.

He was a QB/P, mostly QB but many guys in that time doubled

you have have to respect a guy who has this much motivation for a ring, shows how much he loves the game.

He's probably not going to be doing anything more than taking spot downs. He has got to be slowing down at his age and probbaly won't bea able to handle as many plays.

Never hurts to have a guy like him for depth and relief though.

Thanks to The Dynasty for the sig
