  • Break down your DIVISION RIVAL'S 2007 schedule.

The "Break down your team's schedule and record" thread was/is pathetic... homers being homers. Instead, break down your division rival's 2007 schedule with reasons and explanations.

I'll (obviously) go first... and I'll do the Bears, a team I HATE.

@ Chargers - L - A dominant and complete Chargers team hits the Bears hard week 1. The switch from Jones to Benson is a rough one and Grossman throws a pick and fumbles once. Chargers by 14.

Chiefs - W - The Bears pick themselves up and come out strong with a great defensive showing and solid play from Grossman. Benson breaks out and hits 100 rushing yards. Bears by 19.

Cowboys - W - A very close game, the Bears win it down the stretch with a big defensive turnover. Grossman throws 2 picks but Benson is strong once again, hitting only 80 yards but getting important gains. Bears by 6.

@ Lions - W - The Lions surprise the Bears in the first quarter, going up 14-0 early in the game. The Bears weather the storm, put pressure on Kitna in the 2nd half and shut down the running game to grab another win. Bears by 9.

@ Packers - W - Decided in overtime, the Bears answer a Favre-4th quarter TD with a TD of their own. The Bears win the toss and solid running gets them into FG range. Very close game. Bears by 3.

Vikings - L - The Vikings run D shuts Benson (and the Bears) down, forcing a few fumbes and taking advantage of the turnovers with points. The Bears can't seem to capitalize on big plays, dropping deep passes and failing to stop the Vikes on 3rd and long. Penalties bury the Bears. Vikings by 10.

@ Eagles - W - Once again, the Bears come out strong after a disappointing loss, crushing the Eagles offensively. The defense gives up a few big plays, but the offense takes over. Grossman throws for 4 TDs and Benson runs for 1. Bears by 20.

Lions - L - The Lions' offense explodes and the defense gives a surprise performance in a big win. Grossman commits 2 more turnovers, Detroit turning one of them into 6 points. Rumors surface about a QB change in Chicago. Lions by 12.

@ Raiders - W - The Bears win a defensive battle, forcing turnovers and grabbing 6 total sacks. The offense is good enough to get this win. Bears by 10.

@ Seahawks - W - A strong showing on both sides of the ball, the Bears start strong and don't look back. The Seahawks get on the board late in the first half, but it's too little too late. Bears by 24.

Broncos - L - The 1-loss Broncos continue to impress, shutting the Bears down defensively and controlling the ball on offense. The Bears get close at the end, but the Broncos hold them off. Broncos by 9.

Giants - W - The Bears finish on top in this back-and-fourth battle, stopping the G-Men on their last 3 possessions to pull off a win. Grossman shows flashes of dominance with 3 TDs but also shows his inconsistency with 2 late INTs. The Giants can't capitalize and the Bears win this high scoring affair. Bears by 14.

@ Redskins - L - The struggling Redskins pull off a HUGE overtime win against the 8-4 Bears, getting a total of 4 turnovers and stopping the Bears in the red zone. Big upset. Rumors of a QB controversy in Chicago get louder. Redskins by 7.

@ Vikings - W - The bounce-back Bears do it again, winning impressively after a big loss. The running game explodes against the Vikes and the defense gives a dominant performance. Bears by 21.

Packers - W - The Bears' defense performs well and the running game takes off against the Packers, who struggle throughout the game and commit way too many penalties. Favre is frustrated. Bears by 14.

Saints - L - The Saints win a big game (and a playoff berth) against the Bears, battling back late in the 4th to pull off a win. Saints by 3.

I tried to give them some tough losses and reasonable wins and they STILL finished with a 10-6 record. Goddamn Bears.

        ~ W - Miami's offense isn't meshing. Defense forces two turnovers. Dallas by 17

        Sun 9/23 at Chicago
~ L - Chicago's defense is too much for Romo to handle, goes 1 TD 3 INT with 150 yards. But luckily Chicago offense stalls and they dont loose to bad. Hester runs his first of the year back. Chicago by 13

        Sun 10/14 New England
~W - Dallas brings the Pats their first lost of the season. Romo looks terrible, but MB3 starts taking the full load and gets 2 TDs. Win by a fieldgoal in overtime.

        Thu 11/22 NY Jets

        Thu 11/29 Green Bay
~ W - Romo rebounds greatly, 2 to Witten who forms as Romo's favorite target. Defense plays solid forcing a turnover.

        Sun 12/9 at Detroit
~ W - Kitna looks amazing. Calvin Johnson eclipses 200 yards. Dallas looses control twoards the end of the game, but Spencer makes his big impact play of the year forcing a fumble off Kitna. Dallas by 6.

        Sun 12/16 Philadelphia
~ L - McNabb really starts getting hot. End of the 3rd he goes down with a vicious hit from Hamlin on a scramble. Out till the end of the regular season. Kolb sits while Feely leads them to a field goal punched in by Akers as time expires.

        Sat 12/22 at Carolina
~L - Carr is the QB, and is running for comeback player of the year. Jarrett goes for 75 and Smith for 150. The defense can't stop them. After a gunshow, Dallas looses by 17.

        Sun 12/30 at Washington
~ L - Dallas has secured the division. Tight game through 3, Campbell leads them the length of the field as Portis punches one in with a minute left. TO fractures his hand on a Landry hit and misses the playoffs.

        Dallas 9-7
        Washington 8-8
        Philly: 8-8
        Giants 5-11

          Baltimore

@Cincinnati -L- The Bengals are a hard team to beat in Cincy with that offense.

N.Y. Jets - W- Jets 3-4 is still weak and their line isn't strong. Should be an easy win @ home.

Arizona -W- Another game against a team with a weak defense and O-line. The Ravens defense should eat Whisenhunt and Grimm just like they did in Pittsburgh.

@Cleveland -W- Their defense still isn't good enough and they won't have Bentley back by this point so I'm not giving them the win.

@San Francisco -W- a Weak O-line will kill Gore and lead the Ravens to another win.

St. Louis - A weak D-line makes it easy running for Willis. Ravens put up alot of points.

@Buffalo -W- A weak team with little talent. Baltimore gets the win.

@Pittsburgh - W- They swept us last year so why stop. The Steelers havn't done enough to help the O-line so the defense of the Ravens gets to Ben again.

Cincinnati - L- Cincy will put up alot of points as the Ravens D slows down. Lewis won't make it through this season.

Cleveland - W- Can we really pick Cleveland to win yet?

@San Diego -L- San Diego is a great team and hard to beat on the road.

New England - L- A loaded team on both sides of the ball. I'm expecting alot of wins for the Pats.

Indianapolis -L- This is a nasty stretch isn't it? Another loss at the hands of Manning.

@Miami-W- Miami has alot of problems without a solid QB and an aging defense.

@Seattle-L- I'm expecting a big season out of Seattle as long as Alexander and Hasselbeck stay healthy and the defense learns to tackle.

Pittsburgh -L- Steelers are bound to win eventually and they tend to do better against teams the 2nd time they play them.

That puts them @9-7 but I can see them at 11-5 aswell. Alot of the games between the Steelers/Ravens/Bengals will be close. Not a real clear cut favorite to win the division yet so 9 or 10 wins might do it.

Thanks to The Dynasty for the sig

If that's the case, my apologies... didn't see anything in the post that would've hinted at that (not to mention it's a common pre-season comment).

I just wanted to see people post honest predictions about a team they hate instead of posting a fans perspective as to how their team will do. Believe me... I wish the Bears would go 2-14... but I just don't see it happening with that schedule.

Wow....that is so far off base. Allow me to educate you on the 49ers O-line, because it is one of the strengths of our team.

LT - Jonas Jennings - When healthy is an excellent LT, equally good at pass protection and run blocking. Alas he has an injury history, but we have very good depth at the position. Adam Snyder is our swing man and LT is one of his best spots, He's started many games (10ish?) over the last 2 years at LT and done very well when needed. Rookie Joe Staley can play here if needed as well, so alot of depth here, which is needed due to Jennings injuries.

LG - Larry Allen - Hall of Famer who isn't what he used to be, but still a devestating run blocker. His pass protection is decent, but he really just makes probowls through name recognition. Either way he is still a good player and Gore loves to run behind that big left side. Adam Snyder is primary backup here as well and plays LG very well. Tony Wragge has played here as well and was surprisingly decent.

C - Eric Heitmann - Little known player who switched from G to C last year and played extremely well. Some people thought a borderline probowl season, but nobody knows him so he'd have to have an amazing season to get any votes. Tony Wragge is primary backup and filled in the last few games last year as Heitmann broke his leg and again filled in well.

RG - Justin Smiley - Exceptional RG who will probably leave in FA next year and get an enorous contract. He is best at pass protection because he is one of those smaller agile guards, I believe he allowed 0 sacks last year even while playing injured. David Baas is the primary backup here, he is a bigger mauler type and could push Smiley this year, but probably won't play tilnext year. All reports on Baas are that the coaching staff can't wait to get him in, but the starters Allen and Smiley are too good to bump.

RT - Our position with the least certainty, last years starter Kwame Harris is an excellent run blockerbut could get Alex Smith killed with his pass protection. He also has a tendency to draw a flag to negate big plays. Adam Snyder plays RT as well, but I think its one of his worst positions. Rookie Joe Staley is currently practicing with the first team as Kwame has back spasms. Staley says he is up to 315lbs and wants to hit 320 before camp starts. I'm guessing Staley wins this job by the middle of the season, although he could start from day 1. How will Staley holdup at RT as a rookie? Thats a big question mark, but the kids got the tools.

Yeah, I could see the Giants winning at least one of those games. Not the game @ Chicago though, that might be ugly.

I'll give the Packers credit, I think they can go into Giants stadium and win solely because of their defense. They can win playing defense and kicking field goals, if Old Man Favre doesn't lose the game. Playing at home though, forcing turnovers and making plays, the Giants can win the game. I think it's a close game either way.

The game in Detroit against the Lions should be fun to watch, but I'd give the edge to the Giants. I slightly like both their defense and offense better than those of the Lions, which are both on the upswing under Marinelli. Even if you rank the Lions offense above the Giants offense, choosing not to agree that Brandon Jacobs will continue to run over and through defenders, surely you can agree that Jon Kitna is going to have a tough time finding Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson when Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyoira are coming at him.

Playing the Vikings at home, I think the Giants could win that game as well. Unless the defense under Sprags mimics the Philly defense to the point where the Giants underrated run defense becomes much worse, the Vikings might not be able to run the ball with Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson as well as they would hope. The Giants will also struggle to run the ball against that great Vikings run defense, but playing at home, I think the Giants have a good chance to win that game. If Tarvaris Jackson can find Troy Williamson for a TD pass or two, as I think T-Jack's ability to move out of the pocket and his strong arm will help the Vikings' offense, then that could definintely change.
