He did a fine job? What? Did you watch us play that season? We got gashed in the run game and he could not get around offensive tackles in the passing game. His arms are too short. He played horrible.

Completely different. Ryans is a ballhawk and Sims as well. MLBs can perform if they have big boys up front. They have been doing it for year, Derrick Brooks and Vilma are examples

Dunn, small backs have done it for years. Two of the all time leading rushers were undersized, those being Barry Sanders (5'8", 200) and Emmitt Smith (5'9" 215). And Warrick never was a true workhorse.

Bettis was huge and in a power running game. He was only 250 when young. Plenty have done good at 250.

Looking at top 3-4 defensive ends. Seymour (6'6" 310), Ngata (6'4" 340), Bryant Young (6'3" 305), Trevor Pryce (6'5" 286), Marcus Spears (6'4" 300), Chris Canty (6'7" 300), Igor Olshansky (6'6" 310). The only ones similar in size are Jarvis Green (6'3" 285) and Luis Castillo (6'3" 290), and they are still bigger.
Not much bigger...and to say he could drop to 270 is just as easy if not easier to gain weight...so he could end up at 295 just as easily...If nothing else you can see based on your own argument that there are no specifications to the 'perfect' 3-4 DE...they all have strengths and weaknesses...it's wait and see. But standing up vs hands on the ground...not going to be an easy transition because it's totally different vision and style wise.

Too short of arms, and too short. JMO.

That may end up being the case...but like I said...stop gap...not permanent fixture there. He'd be significantly more suited to play there than LB though.
