    Round 5 - 138 - Traded to Buffalo -
    Round 6 - 170

    Sent Trades
    ----------------------------------
    Your team - Atlanta Falcons
Team you're trading with - Green Bay Packers
Players you're trading - Demorrio Williams, OLB
Players you're receiving - Colin Cole, DT
    Draft picks you're trading - Bronco's 4th, #22 (117)
    Draft picks you're receiving - Chief's 5th, #20 (147) Packers, 5th #23 (150)
Reasoning: Demorrio Williams is wasting his talent sitting behind Brookings and would continue to do so for another year or two before he retired. Colin Cole would come in and immediately fight for playing time with Johnathan Babineaux. Cole could very well be in rotation with Babineaux and make our defensive line one of the best in the league. His presence was felt in Green Bay where he provided solid playing, he wasn't flashy but he was healthy and maintained a good level of play, something Atlanta needs on their defensive line.

    DECLINED

    Your team - Atlanta Falcons
Team you're trading with - Buffalo Bills
    Players you're trading - None
Players you're receiving - Tutan Reyes, OG and Larry Tripplett DT
    Draft picks you're trading - 4th Rounder #22 (117) and 5th Rounder #12 (138)
Draft picks you're receiving - None
Reasoning: With the uncertainty of Johnathan Banineaux's future with the team acquiring Tripplett gives a huge boost a defensive line that at the beginning of FA looked depleted. Even if Tripplett doesn't start all year round he would start just as much as someone we drafted in the 4th and would make Babineaux actually work for his starting position. Tutan Reyes while not an amazing fix at Guard certainly gives us a lot for the value we would be trading him for. He's a bigger guard who would give us a lineman that Petrino is capable of working with.

    APPROVED

The trade with Buffalo got accepted. Grabbed two great players in Tripplett and Reyes.

um... let me make a quick depth chart from the current roster, so I can really see who we have.

      QB - Michael Vick/Matt Schaub/D.J. Shockley
      RB - Thomas Jones/Jerious Norwood/Warrick Dunn/Taurean Henderson/Butchie Wallace
      FB - Justin Griffith/Corey McIntyre
      WR - Roddy White/Adam Jennings/Jamin Elliott
      WR - Michael Jenkins/Brian Finneran
      TE - Alge Crumpler/Daniel Fells
      LT - Levi Brown/Frank Omiyale/Wayne Gandy/Bo Lacy
      LG - Toniu Fonoti/Tyson Clabo/Matt Lehr
      C - Todd McClure/Alex Stepanovich/Brian Ferentz/Jason Palermo
      RG - Kynan Forney/Tutan Reyes/Frank Omiyale
      RT - Todd Weiner/Quinn Ojinnaka

      LE - Victor Abiamiri/Paul Carrington/Josh Mallard
      NT - Grady Jackson/Larry Tripplet/Darrell Shropshire/T.J. Jackson
      UT - Rod Coleman/John Babineaux/Michael Bozeman
      RE - John Abraham/Chauncey Davis/Nic Clemons
      WLB - Demorrio Williams/Travis Williams
      MLB - Keith Brooking/Ed Hartwell/John Leake
      SLB - Michael Boley/Jordan Beck/Ike Reese/Ryan Riddle
      LCB - DeAngelo Hall/Nick Harper/Allen Rossum/Antoine Harris
      RCB - Philip Buchanon/Jason Webster/Derrick Johnson/Brent Grimes/Kevin Hobbs
      FS - Jimmy Williams/Omare Lowe/Kevin Mathis
      SS - Lawyer Milloy/Chris Crocker/J.R. Reed/Leonard Peters

      K -
      P - Michael Koenen
      KR - Allen Rossum/Adam Jennings
      PR - Allen Rossum/Adam Jennings
      LS - Gavin Tarquino/Boone Stutz

      a few questions and comments:
      1) why no trade of Schaub?
      2) good job gettign some depth and 2 new starters for the OL
      3) why all the corner pickups? we only really needed a nickel.
      4) did you really waste a pick on Leonard Peters?

also, you don't really seem to know much about the team. Babineaux doesn't start. Triplett was a waste of a trade. Reyes would be the backup to Fonoti and Forney. so that was a really big watse of a trade. and why again did you get Leonard Peters?

I'll address the point's you brought up in order

1.) I quite honestly could get no one to bite on Schaub for anything that he was worth.

2.) Thanks for the kudos on the O-Line additions.

3.) Corner depth has been an issue and it's always better to be safe than sorry. Phillip Buchanon is an easy sign and fairly cheap. Nick Harper could easily start on the other side of DeAngelo Hall and be good.

4.) Honestly, I couldn't find anyone else at that pick that was a need for us. Leonard Peters is a great physical specimen who does have all the measureables Combine freaks want. Reggie Bush called him one of the most athletic players he played against in College; that might not mean a whole lot, but it still means something. I don't honestly see him starting right away but with Lawyer Milloy there, he could definitely be molded to be one of the next best Safety's.

Grady Jackson is old as hell, I don't honestly expect a bunch from a 34 year old interior lineman. The point behind acquiring Tripplett is that he would make it a three man race and force Babineaux to either work harder or fade out. Also, with the uncertainty of Johnathan's future unclear at the moment because of his ongoing court case I don't know if he'll be there anyway. A fourth and a fifth for veteran, quality backups is a waste of a trade? This is how it worked out in my head:

Draft players in the 4th and 5th who will probably not play much of the time or acquire players from another team who have experience and the opportunity to challenge for a starting spot.

Hope I adequately explained my thinking

what? John and Grady p[lay 2 different spots. again, Dave, you need to learn a little more abotu the Falcons on this one. the Falcosn have 2 spots at DT and they are very specific types of players. NT is an NT, Babineaux doesn't fit that. neither does Coleman. UT is the other guy. he does nto line up in the A gap line the NT he lines up i nthe B gap instead. he is more of an oversized DE. Babineaux is Coleman's eventual successor no matrter how you try to put it. the DT depth looksl iek this and it is very position specific:

          NT - Jackson/Tripplet/Shropshire/Jackson
          UT - Coleman/Babineaux
this is only the guys who I feel actually fit in the 53 man roster. also, Babineaux is easily one of our better all around Defensive linemen. IMO, you need to learn a bit about the team and it's schemes because right now you are showing that you are very madden oriented in terms of how you view the DT's.... our scheme still under Zimmer will have the one gap setup on the DL. the NT and UT are very different spots. the NT is a plugging fat body who is supposed to take on 2+ blockers. Grady Jackson and Shropshire did great in this rotation last year at NT. at UT however they line up in the B gap on the other side and are more of a penetrating pass rusher. Babineaux and Coleman are the ideal fits here. they DL lines up like this:
          .......RE........NT........UT..LE......
          .........LT...LG...C...RG...RT.........

I read on the Team reports that the team wasn't contented with Darrell Shropshire as the depth behind Grady Jackson, who played at a Pro-Bowl level according to Pro Football Weekly. It said that they dodged a bullet that Jackson was able to stay healthy.

I gotta watch the Matrix again. Maybe not even the whole movie...Just the Lobby scene, and the Neo and Agent Smith final battle in the subway station.

I can honestly admit I didn't understand the whole UT/NT situation. Regardless of that, having Triplett there makes the rotation and depth stable. He will see as much game time as a 4th rounder would and already knows the game.
