I curious as to what you don't like about Johnson.

As I see it, he's smart, hard working, reliable in coverage, and a solid open-field tackler, and he's one of the key players for the #1 team in the country.

Honestly, I don't think he could fit better... but I'm willing to be enlightened.

    • I'm not a big fan either. He makes some plays, but he really doesn't have a stand out quality. And the first time I really watched him was against Kentucky. He is supposed to be a smart player, but he let the WR get behind him for a TD when the other team was down 14 with not much time to go and he had deep responsibility.

I also don't think he has the size we would look for.

But I do like his ball skills.

agreed. I was going to point out the same play against Kentucky. Also he is too small only weighing 183 lbs where as Moore weighs 230 and mays at 225-230.

Yes he does play for Alabama (the so called #1 team, lets wait till the SEC champ. GO GATORS). Yes he played very well against LSU, but those passes were awful.

Not discrediting him at all, just not a fan, especially compared to other players like Emmanuel Cook and Otis Wiley who could be picked up later.

Scott Wright's new mock draft. Nothing changed, he has us picking Gresham again, and again i love the pick. What is interesting is if you look at all the guys who went after us in that first round, we could go with anyone on that list. Looking at that, man this draft is deep considering how many underclassmen enter.

          • Btw, looks like Scott agrees with me on Rashad Johnson, for broadly the same reasons. See his blog from today. That opinion's no more valuable than that of you guys, obviously, but at least it shows that I am not alone.

            • In the end I just don't see us spending a 1st round pick on a TE for some reason. I also like Rashad Johnson he seems like the kind of player that would be a good fit for us. If we are able to land him in the mind 2nd round I would be happy.

              • There are only 2 maybe 3 TE that are good like that. The rest is a worthless pick, so a if we dont spend a 1st or 2nd rounder for a TE, we may as well just stick with Hartsock and Peele then.

A later pick on a developmental player, like Bear Pascoe, would not be a bad bet. But I agree, if we want an upgrade at TE, we'd pretty much have to pick Gresham.

Pettigrew is out of it for character concerns, and none of the others are well-rounded enough to fit in our scheme - unless we decide that we do want a pass-catching specialist...

However, I'd be happy leaving TE for another year, solidifying the D this year, and then maybe getting a top TE next year.

we gave up a 7th rounder for foxworth, and if we re-sign him it would turn into a 6th round pick, i think.

That is correct. And right now I hope it turns into a 6th

                          • At the moment starting to warm to Mays. Sure, he would cause a change in our Scheme from a SS standpoint but it would be quite effective. Id leave Coleman at FS next year and have Milloy come out on passing downs for Mays. The staff would find a nice way to intergrate Mays. Recently his production is starting to catch up to his athletic ability.

Guys i like in the first round

William Moore- Looks more and more like being there at the bottom of the 1st with some sketchy play of late. Would be the best style of player to start at SS for us without much disruption schematically

Taylor Mays- Looks like he might not be there at our pick. But im starting to warm to him if he is. Playing real well

BJ Raji- Im starting to look at this guy as a 1st rounder, excellent fit for us. If Cody can go 1st round, why cant this guy?

And also if we get a SS or NT in FA id look at

Everette Brown- Looking every bit a John Abraham clone.
Michael Johnson- Perfect canvas to build into a star. Crazy athelete, i think he drops on draft day.

Both would replace Simon Fraser giving us Abraham, Davis, Anderson Brown/Johnson and Bierman aka a real good group of DE's

                            • The thing that's really tricky with these predictions is that it's a real long time until April, and there are some much more things that will happen until that. You dont even know who will declare, or how they'll perform in the pre-draft tests a.k.a senior bowl a.k.a combine. How these things fluctuate is what keeps our heads in it, just thinking.

                              • Oh and another post, I wouldnt mind selecting Alex Mack the Center with our first round pick. I know there are 3 or 4 good centers and then a drop off, but we never talk about the center position, and i quite frankly wouldn't mind a center in the first. Alex Mack looks elite, and center is QBs best friend. I know McClure is a vet and a great leader but the production has slipped, we need to refresh. Besides the QB, the center is the man in that huddle and he molds the whole line.
