  • Ravens Sign Corey Redding

    1WinningDrive

#Ravens agree in principle to a 2-yr contract w/ former Seahawks D-Lineman Cory Redding. http://BaltimoreRavens.com for more.
I like the signing, provides needed depth at the UT spot.

I love it, another low risk, high reward type signing by the smartest coaching staff in the NFL!

Good signing because it allows the defensive line to keep a steady rotation.
Redding is not the answer by any means, but the Ravens coaching staff will squeeze out all the talent hes got left.
A long time ago he was a 3rd round pick, & since then he hasn't lived up to his potential.
However, Cory Redding is an excellent inside pass rusher & (when healthy) is capable of providing consistent pressure on the QB.
After this, I doubt Baltimore goes DT in round 1.
TE, Jermaine Gresham, or CBs Kyle Wilson/ Perrish Cox are the most likely picks.
    More DT depth is a big need, but it can be addressed in round 2. Quality players such as, my favorites;
    - Lamaar Houston (2nd round)
    - Cam Thomas (2nd round)
    - Arthur Jones (2nd round)
    - DeMarcus Granger (6th round)

Make no mistake, Redding does NOT fill a starters role for the Ravens. It's a great signing because he will be able to provide depth at multiple positions, rotating in at UT, LDE, and possibly the 5-technique. He's not a guy to be relied upon as a starter though, and I wouldn't write off drafting an interior defensive lineman in the first. I watched him in Detroit, and he was at his best next to the big NTs like Rogers and Wilkinson (which we have in Ngata and company) but he's also an older player at 29.

Depending upon how much we gave him this is a pretty dam good signing for depth.

Good signing. We need some depth and he provides that.

I like this signing a lot. We finally have a Texas player.

How is he vs. the run?
              also
can he improve the pass rush?

He's decent against the run (I've seen Seattle fans say he was great on other forums, but I think he played a lot of LDE there too so that may be a factor of why they say that). He should most definitely improve the pass rush though, at least over any interior-type lineman not named Pryce.

I think it is a great signing. We need some more depth on the DL. I don't think this will honestly effect how we draft in the first though, Redding is a solid pick up but not a long term solution for our team.

I want Arthur Jones for no other reason than the fact that his brother is one of the most badass MMA fighters in the world.

Redding's deal is worth $6 million over the two years, a league source told Schefter.
