out of that list, i think greise and maynard need to go.

i say maynard because i doubt many punters are worth over 1 mil and hes certainly been dropping off a bit.....we could probably get a punter in the 7th round who can do better than 41 yard per punt or so. (i think thats what he managed)

and i cant believe ogunleye and tait are that expensive. i would have guessed that they were pretty high up, but not the 2 highest like that

Copied this from the Bears message board (about the only worthwhile thing I've ever found there).

For those unfamiliar with how the salary cap works, the amortized signing bonus # isn't money being paid this year, nor is it money we'd save if we cut the player, but rather how much their previously paid bonus money counts against our cap for this year.

      For example:

Archuleta is on the books for 1.7 million this year, but the Bears are only paying him $700,000, which is how much we'd save if we cut him. We'd have that mil on the books for our salary cap regardless (not that it matters).

They've done a tremendous job of balancing the books/being cheap.

Pass rushers and offensive tackles make a lot of money, that's the nature of the beast

I'm not sure how Brown's new contract effects things. He got 12 mil in bonuses but I don't know how much of that was upfront.

I'm a little suprised the Bears are apparently solid on keeping Mike Brown. He's on the books for 2.5 million next year, all of that base salary we could free up by cutting him.

Hopefully they are right and he'll make it through the season for once.
