  • Replace Zimmer. Choose a coordinator for O.
Tony Sporano has done fine as our offensive coordinator. Unless Mike Martz wants to come here then I'd just assume we keep Sporano. Zimmer though I want to take his knees out with a baseball bat. If he can't get it done with the personel we have then forget him.

I knew it. I knew Jeff Garcia would make a fool out of our defense. How did I know....I don't know, but I knew......I just frickin knew it. I was helpless. All I could do was sit there and watch the Eagles completely dominate the defense, that's all I could do. It was the worst feeling I have had since I can even remember. Worse than the Redskins late comeback last year because this was a slow and methodical death, not a fast stab like the Skins loss was.

I am a freak of a Cowboy fan like many of you. My life revolves around them and yesterday made me consider why I am a Cowboys fan, that's how bad it hurt. A day the Cowboys could have won the division turned into a day of wondering whether or not this team can even beat Detroit.

It's going to be hard for me to bounce back from this and hope for the best in the playoffs, but I will.

This loss brought many questions to my attention.

      Should Parcells come back?
      Should TO come back?
      Can this defense stop anybody?
Can this defense get a pass rush?
Can our defensive or offensive line get a push?
      Should Mike Zimmer be fired?

There are more that I do not want to think about right now. I just hope and pray we can come back from this.

      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm about as frustrated as I've been in my 17 years as owner." -Jerry Jones on Eagles loss

This team has plenty of holes and question marks heading towards the playoffs and the off-season. Here are my position by position thoughts.

Quarterback-I don't care what anybody says Tony Romo is the right man for the job. Sure he threw 2 picks against the Eagles and he hasn't been as good as he was when he first took over the job but you can see he gives us a chance every game with his natural athletic ability, mobility, and not to mention his great arm along with his leadership. Backup quarterback is another story, Drew Bledsoe obviously won't be back so the Cowboys will need a veteran quarterback to backup Romo and maybe even a late round draft pick to come in as the third quarterback.

Runningback-Julius Jones finally appears to be finding himself again but now Barber appears to be human after the game against the Eagles. Either way I want both of these backs back in Dallas. One of them will come through for sure and could be dominant if they were clicking at the same time. Also I think it's about time the Cowboys come up with some offensive sets that feature both Jones and Barber in the backfield. Tyson Thompson should be back next year as our rightful kick returner and I don't see too much money being spent on somebody to come in and compete for the third spot.

Fullback-Cowboys appear to like what Hoyte can do in terms of blocking although he has had some mental errors he should keep the job especially because the FB has a limited role in the offense. Polite will probably be in and out like he was this year and can provide some consistency catching the ball out of the backfield.

Wide Receiver-I don't see anyway TO wears a star on his helmet again next year. Jerry is disappointed in his production and should be. He has had more key drops than catches and cannot properly run a deep route; he steps out of bounce 90% of the time which makes it illegal to be the first one to touch the ball when coming back into play. Sure he's got toughness for playing with a bad finger but don't expect Bill or Jerry to feel sorry for him. TO will be gone. Terry Glenn has some of the best hands in the league and quite a bit of speed as well. He is aging but hasn't lost a step and is a big part of the offense. The drop he had against Philly this week was uncharacteristic of him which is why as a fan I excuse it. Patrick Crayton will return and possibly push for a starting role considering he has some of the most reliable hands in the league and has developed a relationship with Romo. Miles Austin and Sam Hurd will continue to battle for playing time and are producing very well on special teams. Depending on who the Cowboys decide to bring in one of these guys could push for more playing time as well.

Tight End-Rookie Anthony Fasano seems to be emerging as a receiver for Romo, and Jason Witten is still the same pro bowl tight end we know and love. I hope Bill doesn't pursue another tight end, the position is not needed. The third tight end could be Brett Pierce, Tony Curtis, or Ryan Hannam it doesn't matter too much which.

Left Tackle-The Hotel Flozell Adams has played good and probably could keep the job another year but the Cowboys need some insurance and somebody younger at that. Obviously Romo can avoid sacks better than Bledsoe ever could so some of the pressure is off of the offensive line but the Boys certainly need to make sure Romo's blindside is protected.

Left Guard-I really don't think the Cowboys will find anyone better than Kosier this off-season and while Kosier hasn't been great at least he will have a year under his belt as a Cowboy and eventually I think he will be a good starter. Parcells likes Procter and he has worked hard for his spot on the team and I think he will keep it.

Center-I am one who wanted Gurode gone long before this year. I felt like his high snaps and mental errors were enough for him to lose his job but this year he has proved me wrong, and there still are mistakes from him but I like his size and now that he seems to have developed even further I like him starting. Al Johnson was a force in the run game a few years ago but has lost his job to Gurode but he's a perfect guy to push Gurode to his potential.

Right Guard-This is the position the offensive line needs to upgrade. Rivera is nothing of what he was in Green Bay and his back injury from the result of the tread mill was a sign of bad things to come. maybe Jerry should have kept this guys' signing bonus.....our backup is a no namer as well so I fully expect the Cowboys to draft Justin Blalock if they have the opportunity.

Right Tackle-Probably the strongest offensive lineman on the team Marc Colombo was picked up last season and was a guy Parcells had his eye on for this year. In one of my issues of Dallas Cowboys weekly last year about Marc Colombo Parcells said this guy was a first round pick and I was told by a guy named Al Davis that if somewhere along the lines someone thought a player was good, to give that guy a chance if available. Well Colombo made do of his chance and now has the starting right tackle position all to himself. Haven’t heard much about Fabini and don't know if he'll be back so a backup may be needed.

      ------------

Defensive End-The defensive line's inconsistency could be faulted to Marcus Spears or Chris Canty but both guys are inexperienced and have great potential so it's too hard to go out and say well these two positions didn't produce the way we expected to so let's get somebody else. I think overall the Cowboys like their youth and size at defensive end. Especially Jason Hatcher I think he and Canty should split playing time because of how well Hatcher has played. At LDE Marcus Spears will probably keep the starting position but a young draft pick in the mid rounds or a veteran to push Spears would be perfect.

Defensive Tackle-Jason Ferguson is exactly what we want at defensive tackle. He's got the size and he gets the penetration and on top of that he's a Parcells guy, but his one issue is age which is why I feel the Cowboys need to add a youngster with size and also the ability to play nose in the 3-4. Ratliff has played nose a little bit and has played pretty good but I think the Cowboys need a little something else there. Something like a run stopper, Ratliff gives you more of a pass rush at DT than a plug for the run defense.

Weakside Linebacker-DeMarcus Ware is a talent and a pick well spent even if he hasn't measured up to Shawne Merriman he's what we want for this team. I think when it's all said and done Ware will be a better overall player in terms of games played, statistics, and character. Kevin Burnett is a former second round draft choice who is really starting to help out the team. In passing situations he works his way into the lineup and plays well. This position is fine the way it is.

Right Inside Linebacker-Akin Ayodele was one of the Cowboys bigger free agent acquisitions and he has played very good I think. 77 total tackles, two interceptions, and a sack are good enough for him to keep his job. Bobby Carpenter has played a few snaps inside but I think the Cowboys will need to add some depth behind Ayodele because Carp is starting to come around at strongside linebacker.

Left Inside Linebacker-It felt like Bradie James was emerging as a leader on this defense and maybe he still is...but Bradie has been a liability in coverage and still needs a lot of improvement but on the other side of the spectrum he has a team leading 91 tackles. Ryan Fowler works in as the backup but could be replaced.

Strongside Linebacker-After Greg Ellis went down it seemed this defense fell apart. Bobby Carpenter has been a disappointment so far in his career but it is early and now that he has worked himself into the lineup it seems like he is around a lot of plays and is quickly improving. I think considering Carp is a first round pick he will get two more years to prove his worth to the team. Al Singleton is a seasoned veteran but really nothing special so it all depends if Ellis comes back. The Cowboys could possibly add a pass rush specialist.

Strong Safety-Roy Williams will make his plays and always has that intimidation factor for opposing teams but he has got to be one of the worst starting safeties in coverage. The Cowboys could bring in somebody who specializes in coverage to come in on obvious passing situations for Roy.

Cornerback-Terence Newman is a good player but probably isn't as good as us fans say he is. He doesn't get tested a whole lot but when he does he will give up big plays although not many are for touchdowns. Anthony Henry gives the Cowboys size and athleticism and even though he was beaten badly quite a bit this season I think he is a good player. Aaron Glenn is a gold mine at the third corner position and if he can play five more years great. Maybe the Cowboys should still add a young corner through the draft.

Kicker-This is going to sound like a homer but I like Martin Gramatica if he can do it again next season. Jerry won't draft a kicker so unless there is something better on the free agent market I don't see a major problem with good ol' Gramatica.

      Punter-Mat MacBriar=pro bowler

I guess one conclusion I could make from my analysis is that this team has talent at the majority of the positions they are just not producing and that goes to the coaching staff.

ZIMMER=FIRED. Parcells is good and I want him back but these defensive assistants have got to go.

Any thoughts on this rant would be appreciated. Like I said let's just hope for the best as we go forward. Maybe this team can find a way to turn it around before the playoffs start.
You are so off base. A team is a reflection of it's head coach PERIOD! It always has been through the years. You need to go study football history. Parcells should be gone. And why? Because the game and time has passed him by, it's that simple people. It happens to everyone eventually. He is soft now...like grandpa Walton...and his team is soft. You think hes a good teacher? Let him go teach college then, this is the NFL son.

TO Gone? Hmmm I dont like him personally but who are you going to get to replace him? Glenn scares nobody on his own....this team is done. We are right back where we were in 2003. You people just need to face the facts...

            w.r.s yes ours are better.
l.t. flozell over mcneill. i doubt it. hes been a great addition and i wish we would have drafted him.

c.b. newman starts henry doesnt. jammer and newman would be the starters. roy would start.

ware over merriman...no ware would have to move to the other side and over there they have shaun phillips who has 63 tackles and 11 1/2 sacks

so out of 22 starters we might have 4 or 5 who could start for s.d. seems we have a ways to go to be elite

            • I doubt that Terrell Owens will leave, or Randy Moss will come in. Jerry Jones is becoming frustrated, and I am waiting to see Owens have a big game.

I am not sure if I am going to see one though, with our lethargic playcalling.

First time Jerry has come out against TO's play. I am happy. Fact is TO thinks he reports to Jerry and not Bill. And that is the root of this problem. He has alluded to this many times in conversations and in his demeanor towards Bill. Why ya think BP just ignores him?

TO is done. He is 33. Never had good hands. Is not in a West Coast system and does set a horrid example for his team. Now with a permanently damaged finger more excuses.

Move on. Draft a new WR or get Austin to step up. Has all the talent to do so.

I would like a Mike Jarrett or even (gasp) Mike Williams or (gasp) Mike Jenkins via trade. Not sure Jarrett is worth a 1 but definately sure he is not there in late 2 so ....

Williams was very good in USC and has been jerked around since he came out. Going to Detroit was a disaster professionally and honestly he needs out. New place to see what life is about.

Vick makes everyone look bad except himself and Jenkins looked pretty good versus Dallas. He has good hands and his drops have been magnified by moping.

Both Williams and Jenkins needs a new place t0o thrive and are in "bad franchise" situations where lots of instability may lead to unnessary roster turnover.

With that said, a big 6'5 guy with good speed is needed. Helps in red zone. Helps in middle of field.

I think you are probably right. If Parcells does not produce in the playoffs, His job will be in jeopardy. He has had alot of time and alot of talent, but no production. We have the same wins as we do last year. I really do not want PArcells to stay, and I really don't want him to go.
