  • BryanBroaddus Already watching Elam direct traffic pre snap with other DBs as the defense works against a scout team running off cards. Coaches like known
:) Why he was on my wishlist :D Too much grumbling about our oline situation (even from Houck) for us not to be evaluating and then signing someone. We also will be about 14 mil UNDER the cap this year (with about 20 mil dead next year) so we will be signing someone and then carrying some of that into next years cap per our new CBA.

toddarcher Nice lead block by Shaun Chapas on Phillip Tanner run. Kept his feet moving on Kenwin Cummings.

BryanBroaddus With Free and Smith on the edge, Phillips and Witten too, offense will do a much better job of getting ball outside and down hill. Athletes.

robphillips3 Dez has stick 'em on his hands today.

toddarcher Even after losing helmet Orlando Scandrick makes play on deep ball to Kevin Ogletree.
Loving everything coming out of camp. Defense LOVES the scheme. Dez catching everything, Free and Smith from all accounts have been making an incredible impact compared to last year and Scandrick might be back to the guy we wanted started a couple years ago rather than the guy we wanted to release -_-

    • JJ confirmed that we're not done in FA....but he also confirmed that we will not sign a G to compete with Holland. :/ Holland is going to be the starter.

      • I went to practice yesterday and one thing I can say is the defense will be exciting this year. A lot of times Ryan didn't even have either DE on the field and was using Spencer and Ware at DE. The players were constantly moving pre snap. The play where Dez was hurt was minor. Some scrub hit him after the play helmet to hand. After a bunch of cussing Dez was back on the field within 5 minutes.

        • I expected Lyle Leong to have a good camp...but this Raymond Radway has been lighting camp up apparently with his speed. Had a pair of drops today, but he's just blowing by guys. Oggs and Harris are locks...I wouldnt be too surprised to see us go with 6 guys. Manny, Radway, Holley, and Leong look to be in for a good competition for that last spot or two.

Also...Bryan Mccann and AOA have been our primary kick return guys in camp. And both have been fantastic so far returning the ball. AOA is obviously a lock...Mccann has shown his big play ability before, so he'll probably make it as well. Newman through Scandrick are locks, and Thomas is pretty damn close to a lock. That leaves Ball, Mccann, and whoever else for that last spot, assuming we keep 5. Last year we kept 3 with Ball as insurance.

          edit...

I also wanted to add that our potential swing tackle, Sam Young, has been a god damn revolving door against every one as of late. He started camp off strong, but he's been getting beat over and over, apparently. Our main goal with Young, like it is with many young lineman, was to improve his strength this off-season, apparently. And seeing how he couldnt work out with our training staff, he has failed to increase his strength by himself. So he's been getting manhandled.

And Bill Nagy a guy who looked like a PS guy the moment we drafted him...actually looks like he may grab a roster spot, with our ****** depth. Not bad for a part time player in college. :/ Our O-Line depth would have to rank at or near the bottom of the league. It's really, really bad.

            • I'm assuming you're Bob/Rob whatever, again?

TC success in no way instantly leads to on the field success...but it is nice to know who is doing what out there. And you do realize a lot of what is going on out there has major barring on final roster spots for some players. It can be even more important then the minimal amount of reps they'll see in live action preseason games. TC is make or break time for many guys...and it's the same on every level of football. Professional players are lucky enough to have a full preseason schedule, which aids in the evaluation process. But TC still remains incredibly important, in the team building process.

              • Tony and Felix are carving up our first team defense in today's team scrimmage. Clarence Hill tweeted Tony's 14-20 150 yards with 2 TDs.

Pretty surprising, just because the defense has been getting the best of the offense all camp. And Tony typically starts off rather slowly, before getting into season form. Could be a good sign for our offensive line play, at least.

                • Did you guys catch this Free news?

According to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, the Eagles were Dallas' chief competition for Doug Free in free agency.
Despite one report to the contrary, Lombardi says the Bucs were never in the Free sweepstakes. The Eagles saw a chance to weaken a division rival and wanted Free "badly" to play right tackle in Philly.

Man. Can you imagine if they had stolen him? Lol. It would be a really depressing time to be a Cowboys fan if we let that happen. Most years without the uncertainty of the labor deal, we'd have locked him up in house well before UFA.

Also great to hear about Felix. I still wish he was closer to the 210 he was when he came in, then the 217 he's at now. It's an improvement, but just my preference. He's a much better player then Murray, and people knock him alot but I think he totaled 1200 yards last year roughly.

No reason he can't be a consistent 1500 yard back for us.

                  • Losing Bowen to the Skins and Free to the Eagles...I may have just quit watching all together. lol.

As for Felix...that's just what he grew into, he's a big back. But everyone is saying he's lighting up camp. Too fast for our defense. Looks like you have an angle on him, and he's gone. And it's not like they're tackling out there, he's just making people miss. Going untouched for long gains.

A lot of people on the inside...media that is. Seem to think that Lonyae Miller's performance may make Choice expendable. It really wouldnt surprise me to see Choice just flat out released. He doesnt deserve that, but he doesnt seem to be a Garrett favorite at all. And we have an abundance of capable backs. A trade is always possible as well...but it's not so easy to execute trades right before that final cut.

                    • I mean he's cheap, and he seems like the best 3rd RB in the league(off the top of my head). Plus, while we don't know all the reasons that make him such a non-favorite, whenever he's got time to carry the load he's been excellent.

I would really hate if he leaves and goes onto being a great starter. Not only is he capable, but you have to love his passion and leadership.

                      • I like Choice...but if they think Lonyae can be better, than I'd be fine with moving him. But Choice is more than proven. Miller is one of the guys who has to duplicate his camp success in the preseason to actually win a job. Miller is intriguing in his own right, though. 220 lbs, 4.4 speed.

I would also hate to just release Choice without getting anything back. I'm just saying, such a move wouldnt be shocking, however.

                        • Some welcomed news

                          http://www.cowboysnation.com/2011/08...make-push.html

montrae Holland's dodgy back has given Arkin an opportunity and he appears to be seizing it. Today, Arkin worked the entire practice, with the first, second and third units. He worked on the right side with the 1st and 2nd team offenses and flipped back to left guard with the 3rd. The thinking must be that force-feeding Arkin as many reps are possible will shorten his learning curve.

He's far from the finished product. He'll miss targets on run plays to his side, but he's direct, aggressive and shows a mean streak. Most important, when Arkin worked together with Smith, they protected Tony Romo. There was no leakage through the right side of the line, though Rob Ryan threw twists and blitzes at them. Arkin make a solid block pulling left on a power run, leading Felix Jones through the hole.

I have been convinced that Arkin is too raw to start at guard, but I'm now keeping an open mind. I had not seen the Cowboys work since Thursday and Arkin has made a significant jump in that short period of time. He may be ready much sooner than anticipated. He's certainly getting every chance to join the starting lineup.

Nice to see a young O-lineman show some promise

                          • It'd be fantastic if he could be ready sooner than expected. But the thought of a rookie RG and a rookie RT combo is very scary. I'm excited to see both play in the preseason. We're getting close boys.

Oh and speaking of rookie RT, Tyron may have been roughed up a few times in drills...but he was said to have played very well in this little scrimmage.

It's all coach talk. Teams like us don't get this lucky. Remember when Ryan Petitte was practically declared Mr. Awesome by Parcells?

I don't think that article was written by a coach.
