We better stay out of 3rd and long.
You were mighty fine about Nagy and Costa a few days ago... Now they got you feeling down?

I'm happy Dockery is on the team, but even then... he's come so late, there is NO time for him to know what to do other than to rely on his 9 years experience.

Thank goodness we've been practicing screens.

Actually these guys have looked alright in the running game throughout pre-season, whatever that's worth. And as far as them blitzing every down, we're still loaded with skill players than can take the screen or the blitz buster to the house.

Garrett will need to keep Rex guessing, this will be a chess match in terms of blitzes vs the screen.
        Cowboys Mock:
        1. Myles Jack | LB | UCLA
        2. Vernon Butler | DT | LA Tech
        3. Karl Joseph | SS | WVU

That's going to be huge! Best thing to combat a good pass rush. We see teams do it to us, or try to.

When was this? I've been pretty skeptical about those 2 the entire time lol.

All this talk about offense will be for nothing if we can't slow down their running game, which has been our biggest problem thus far. They're going to pound the football until we prove we can stop it.

Sorry, I may have confused you with some of the others then.

Slowing down their run... we won't ever be a good run stuffing team until our stubborn management realizes that Jay Ratliff is a bowling pin against the run and that drafting undersized 3-4 ILBs isn't the way to go. Ratliff has never and will never get doubled when a run play is called. He may get doubled occassionally when pass plays are called, but against the run...we've seen time and time again, how he gets abused. ...and drafting small ILBs like Bruce Carter, Jason Williams and even Sean Lee (he's not what you'd consider a thumper)... It doesn't help us be a tough run stuffing defense either.

The advantage is that we are better prepared in our front 7 to be a good pass defense (and the league is becoming a pass happy league)... but don't get too happy about that.... the BAD part is our secondary sucks. Newman is done. He should've been cut or restructured. Jerry put all his eggs in Nnamdi's basket and failed to put enough eggs inside. Now the egg is on his face. Elam and Sensy are 2 clowns that I have no faith in as long term solutions (and neither does the team - thuis the short 1 year deals). I like Scandrick, but we just paid overpaid him and now I'll expect him to be our best CB. Oh jeez. Mike Jenkins... I thought moving him to Safety was our best move, but he can't stay healthy. This is why I am constantly reminded that our 1st round pick must be spent on a DB. Sigh....

                    • I cant even find that tweet from Mosley. And Phillips just said they havent been ruled out yet, as they face further evaluation. A little encouraging, but if each player really does have your basic "NFL" hyperextended knee, their status could still very much be in doubt.

Hopefully they both prove to be minor than that, and they can both play. We'll have a better idea tomorrow.

In any case, Jenkins has missed so much time and is so banged up, I dont know how much confidence we should have in him. But better a banged up Jenkins than Alan Ball, I always say. :P

Same diagnosis as Smith I heard, negative MRI, hyperextended knee.

Neither may play still, though. But Dallas at least sounded optimistic late Wed. night Rob Phillips said. Neither will be ruled out for sure until further evaluation. But they did say they hope Smith can practice and maybe be available for Sunday, but it's still unknown right now. Depends how things look in the morning according to Matt Mosley in a tweet.

We have a reason for a tiny bit of optimism, at least.

He has been an idiot for over 20 years when it comes to Player Personnel.

Why be surprised when it comes out of his mouth.

Atleast that's a good thing. I really just want the game to be played, I dont care whose in there. I think we have a chance.

                              • As much as I want both Jenkins and Smith to play, I'd almost want to air on the side of caution and sit them this week.

I'm not sure if this was a thought out plan on JJ's part, but the writing seems to be on the wall. Teams like the Steelers really build their team via the draft and signing role players and not the high ticket guys. This has been a successful blueprint for them over the last few decades. I'm not saying this is what JJ is doing, but I wouldn't be surprised if you see this as a trend for him. That being said, we do need to do a better job drafting. Even though the 2010 draft has brought us potentially 2 long term starters in Lee and Bryant. 2009 may seem like a bust, but it did potentially get us a solid back up QB in McGee and we'll see about Victor Butler. I'm not saying we've done a stellar job, but it's been fairly solid. 2011 we shall see what it produced soon.
