If you're keeping Davis...how many corners are you going to keep? Because, I have a hard time believing that we wont keep 6.

I posted this a couple pages back.

Only problems i see with the 53 man roster...

    2 or 3 QBs?

    5 or 6 WRs?

How many LBers? There is potential for 9.

S and CBs...5 corners and 5 safeties or 6 corners and 4 safties or maybe even the unprecedented 6 corners and 5 safties. That would only be if they can't decide on Alan Ball or Dowayne Davis.

    Right now, I'd go with...

    QB Romo/Johnson/Simms (3rd QB) (3)
    HB Barber/Jones/Choice (3)
    FB Deon Anderson (1)
    WR Owens/Crayton/Hurd/Austin/Stanback/sixth WR (6)
    TE Witten/Curtis/Bennett (3)
    T Adams/Colombo/Free/Mcquistan (4)
    G Kosier/Davis/Marten (3)
    C Gurode/Procter (2)

    25 Offense

    DE Spears/Canty/Hatcher/Bowen (4)
    NT Ratliff/Johnson (2)
    OLB Ware/Ellis/Spencer/Walden (4)
    ILB James/Thomas/Burnett/Carp/Rogers (5)
    CB Newman/Henry/Jenkins/Jones/Scandrick/Ball (6)
    S Hamlin/Williams/Watkins/Brown (4)

    25 defense

    K Folk (1)
    P Mcbriar (1)
    LS Ladouceur (1)

    3 Special

    53 total

I even have problems with this, though...a sixth WR is not really needed. Yes, a guy like Amendola could return but, he isnt going to win a returning job. Linebacker is tough, Rogers and Carp are playing the same position and Rogers is currently ahead of him on the depth chart and I've heard nothing but, good things. One of them may be cut. 8 seems like a better number than 9. Also, as for the secondary, Ball and Davis have both been opening eyes...so, it may be tough to cut one over the other. Ball has put on loads of weight and is much improved and Davis packs a wallop and has gunner potential. It's going to get real interesting. For the most part, our roster is set already but, we'll def. Have to keep an eye on the positions I mentioned earlier to see how this thing gets rounded out.

    Thanks BoneKrusher^

That's not good... definitely not good..

We're prepared for a situation like this, but any time your number one, all-pro corner goes down, it's gonna hurt.

        • I'm freakin out over Newman. I remember I freaked out last year too and everyone said "Don't worry" and then look what happened. Luckily we have the depth to cover it up for a little bit this year.

Truth be told, I would feel a lot more comfortable if he was only out until thursday like Mosley reported this morning, but no, of course it's 3 weeks with an injury that has the potential to last 3 months.

See that's not bad, I pondered the same thing. It's just that it is rare to go in w/ a 11 guys in the secondary but, I could def. see that.

Also, there is talk that we are close to getting Simms...so, it may be Romo/Simms or Romo/Johnson/Simms.

              Thanks BoneKrusher^

              • I don't see us bringing 3 QB's just for the simple fact that we don't have a 3rd QB deserving of a roster spot...I also can't sell myself on a 6th WR.....I feel like I'm missing my last interior OL guy...but IDK right now last spot probably goes to a WR...just can't pin it down...I also don't like the 11 players in the secondary...but if Wade is right on Davis being a special teams stud just maybe we could do it.

                • Ya, if we do land a 3rd QB I still rather go davis over 6th WR at this point just because the 6th WR seems to be jag...whereas Davis can be an impact player on special teams...we already have our return guys in locked spots...I just couldn't justify another WR on the roster.

                  • I dont like the idea of 3 QBs or 6 WRs either. That 6th guy would need to be a specialist and I wouldnt call Jefferson or Amendola special team studs and Danny isnt beating out anyone for a return job. If we get Simms, I'd actually think that would mean the end of Johnson, rather than keeping all 3.

But alas, this is a great problem to have. Especially, that little secondary problem. good stuff.

                    • The one spot that gets me nervous is Anderson as our only FB and a full time special teamer...however the use of the h-back might be enough to not justify bringing a 2nd guy in.

                      Comment

                      • I honestly don't feel the need to have a second FB on the roster. Deon Anderson is good, but ultimately if he goes down to injury, there's a ton of guys that will be FA's that we could bring in.

                        Comment

                        • Or Curtis could play FB if desperate.

As for T-new. I'm worried that it will linger, but it's good to have the young guys get some snaps in the pre season games.

                            • few hits-

The 2ND STRING had to adjust their strategy for Tank, so lets not get too excited about that piece of info.
But yes Spears will have to show a lot in preseason to not lose snaps, with the development of the DL. He isn't going to lose snaps on rushing downs though.

As for Ball I wouldn't put him as lock just yet. Him and Oglesby should be in a tight race for what could be the last CB spot. Although with 4 corners playing 3rd down 7 CBs may not be out of the question.

Dowayne Davis at this point I really don't see making the roster though. I just don't see a spot on the game day roster for him. And IMO he isn't the type of player you want to use up a roster spot on if he isn't active for the games.

I am excited for the competition between Hurd and Miles though. I thought Hurd would come into camp leaps ahead of Miles, but I am glad I turned out to be wrong.

I also would love to get somebody like Simms in for a 3rd QB. Somebody that can come in learn the offense this year and take over as the backup next year. I really don't like the idea of Brad Johnson coming in and shortening the field so much if Romo goes down.
