  • $2.5 may be pushing a little, but it's not a back breaker. Whether they match it or not seems pretty equal IMO.

If they match it they keep a pretty solid development at wideout. He's got some good speed, and he's a serviceable kick returner. He also has gotten better since he's been here so it seems he'll make some more progress this year.

If they don't they get a 2nd for a guy who was undrafted, and hasn't really done anything special yet. I like Miles, but he won't be starting next year. Crayton is still around, and Miles still needs a lot more work to be a starter. He'll probably battle with Hurd again, and this time it will be for the 3rd spot. I actually like Hurd more than Austin.

Whatever happens it shouldn't turn out bad.

I wouldnt count on it but, Austin could just as easily lay an egg when camp/pre season roles around and Hurd can have another strong one and things shift all over again. In all likelihood, Austin is the starter but, there is no guarantee that he is going to break camp as such. Even though Austin is getting a lot of love at the moment, things change quickly in this league and Hurd looked poised to break out last season. So again...Austin is the obvious favorite but, I wouldnt be surprised to see any of those three named the starter opposite Roy. Austin has all the momentum and the owner behind him right now, though...so it looks good for him. Hopefully, he earns it, though.

I wasn't bashing Hurd, I still like him, but I still think it would be a bad idea to roll into the season with him as the #2 WR.

      • If the Jets made an offer, it'd be more than 2.5 a year.

        • The Jets traded for a QB that was over the hill in 08. They will go after Austin hard if they believe he will add an upgrade to the team. Tannenbaum is desparate to win quickly.

I say take the 2nd rounder and run with it. Austin is always hurt. Some players can't kick the injury bug. He seems to be bitten by it every year.

I like picks as much as the next person, but I see no point in getting a pick when it just creates another need, and if we give him up and we blow that pick on whoever then it was even worse...We have plenty of picks, an extra 2nd is not getting us further along then just keeping Miles if you ask me.

Yea maybe we can go out and sign a vet, but I'm pretty sure Jerry intends on giving Austin an extension anyway...If Austin is gone like you said I don't trust us to develop another #2 WR, Jerry will want one of the big guys on the block and it won't work because we already have a #1 WR.

A 2nd is nice, but I don't see anything out there that we would do with it...
Well said. But we could sign a FA WR and still draft a WR in this year draft.

If we lost Austin, the Cowboys should re-build the team, and let Flo go, I know that Austin did close to nothing in 2008.

            • If you lose Austin...you add a vet...we are in the exact same position then. I still like the idea of adding tory holt myself....but that's only "if" they make the offer.

              • Brandon Tate >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Miles Austin.

Use one 2nd rounder on DL and the other at S. Jarron Gilbert/Ziggy Hood and Louis Delmas/Sean Smith/Rashard Johnson/Jairus Byrd.

                • Interesting article about the Jets and ties to poison pills...I can only hope. This would be a steal for us....add a vet WR and let our WR's progress...and add a guy on the second day if the value fits and we are laughing all the way to the bank.

                  • I just had a crazy/stupid thought....if we lose austin we will gain 1.5 million in cap...and with all the rush backers we've looked at I think it's safe to say we are looking at making Ellis expendable....Could Plax be a target for the cowboys? That would be crazy...IDK how it would work...but that would be a hell of a trade off for us haha.

                    • Good talk, but we still have to see if NY even makes an offer...For all we know, they could be just getting a feel for him before/if he hits FA next off-season so they already have a look see.

I'd be surprised if they made an offer, but it sounds like they did their homework for awhile being a Jersey guy...I think Holt is done, much like I thought Glenn was done, besides he may have a deal worked out before we can step in the picture.

Plax needs to serve time in jail. I will pass on him.

Even better haha...If our WR's play good we are ok...if the don't...then plax will just be getting out haha.

Really I'm just trying to spark some conversation...but it was atleast worth a thought.

How do like the rest of NT prospect?

I'm actually still really high on Terrence Taylor. I think he'd be a great fit in our scheme to backup Ratliff. Baker would be fine with me also...but that is where I draw the line....the bad thing about NT's is that they never really contribute on special teams so they need to be able to see the field in year one imo.

I like Terrance Taylor a lot, I believe he is the stronger lineman this year with a long arm but a little short. He is more ready than Sammy Lee Hill. Anyway, I don't remember that any draft prospect that have started in first year as NT.
