  • Trade down from #20?

Mayhew said that a few teams have inquired about us moving down from 20:

    http://www.freep.com/article/2009032...ng+No.+20+pick

So who does everybody think the teams are that may potentially move up and for who?

I read on foxsports(?) a couple of weeks ago that the Ravens might want to move up to get DHB because many people see him as a great guy to grow with Flacco. #26 and their 3rd are a perfect match on the point scale for #20.

I could also see teams targeting a OT or TE try to jump ahead of Philly if Oher or Pettigrew are still available at #20.

Teams with multiple picks, like the Patriots, would probably most likely want to move up if someone is there that they would like to target. In my perfect world the Patsies would take a Percy Harvin and if they were to trade up grab a guy like Connor Barwin to play OLB.

For the Lions if they target a starting tackle they probably cant afford to trade out of round 1, if they are looking to just add talent it probably makes sense.

Use #20 to pick up a 2010 first rounder! That'll be the money draft.

Also, it's funny about that article.. People on MLive seem to think that since Mayhew said he'd trade out of the spot, the Lions don't want Stafford. It's all about leverage. It just puts pressure on Stafford to sign early, if he starts thinking that the only chance he has at going #1 is if the Lions take him.

I would love us to trade down. I mentioned it a while back. I think that is our best possible move at that spot.

if we go stafford then beatty and brace should still be around by 26 so having a free 3rd would be nice.

You may have to wait a year on Stafford and then wait on another rookie in 2010. How far out do you want to push this whole rebuilding thing?

There is no one that jumps out at me at #20. I would love to trade down and pick up an extra pick.

I don't want to just give the pick up for one next year.. I want something like the Eagles/Panthers trade from last year:

                      #19 for #43 (Round 2), #109(Round 4) and 2009 Round 1.

I'm sure the Pats would give up their two lower seconds
(and probably a 3rd) to move up to #20, giving them #20, #23 and #34. Not sure if that would be enough for the Lions.

I personally just dont see the Patriots wanting to jump up to #20. They are a team that seems to mostly trade down and they seem to covet the 2nd rounders. With them sitting at #23, I just dont view them as a likely trading partner, but with Belicheck I guess you cant write them off.

But then the question becomes who would they want to target at #20 to move up, and then they'd also probably have to be targeting someone at #23 to not use that pick to move up also?

Call me crazy, but I would think it would be more likely for Philly to move up from 28 then for NE to move up from the 2nd. This would probably only make sense if both Oher and Pettigrew were both available at 20.

I'd be extremely happy with this scenario. I remember hearing a rumor on draft weekend last yr that this deal was proposed to the Lions and they shot it down, I was so mad when I heard that and I still am.

First off as much as i like the Pats can we stop giving them credit for being above the crowd with their top picks. Brady, Welker and Moss werent tops picks by them and without them they're nothing.

I think with 3 seconds they are taking lower rated players. If someone drops to that 20 range they may feel that would be the only way to get that player. If they were to target Harvin and Barwin or Maybin they probably risk losing one or more by sitting where they are.
