  • If the Chiefs pick top ten again and go D it better be on a pass rusher.

Cassel played well considering what he had to work with and behind last year (his line was just as bad in New England in 2008 ), and if the offense struggles again, there are still way more variables than QB. The only upgrades that were made were OL and RB. The receiving situation, which was the main issue with the offense in 2009 imo, could still be very sketchy depending on Bowe and how well Weis integrates his short passing game, and the TEs are all very prone to injury (which affects the receiving and blocking games). The need areas on defense are obvious.

If we're picking that high though I think it'll be defense. I wouldn't suggest using another top 10 pic on a 3-4 DE, but maybe they'd do that until one sticks. Who knows.
I believe both of you are dead on. nepg is right about Cassel's growth. We maybe in the top 10 because of our defense alone. Now, if we are top 5 again, he would had to of shown thourgh in order for him to be thought of as a franchise guy. We could be picking at 9 or 10 having gone 6-10 and Cassel could have been good. Our defense could easily lose 10 games that our offense scored 20 or more points. Agreed?

videa is right about the top WRs in this draft. 4 could be going in the top 15 or 20 and the Chiefs would have a hard time passing on any of them.

I don't picture the Chiefs drafting another 34 DE unless they trade away Dorsey, which I don't see happening. I also don't se a NT being worth a top 15 selection. I think Peterson, a QB, 1 of the stud WR, or a pass rusher being the Chiefs selection. Of course, it is extremely early.

      • Our D has so many questionmarks it's not even funny, and there are so many fans (not on here) that think Berry alone is going to fix it.

I love me some Berry but one player know matter how good is going to fix that mess.

It really depends on where they end up picking... It also depends on if they start working Dorsey towards playing time at NT. I think Dorsey can play NT, but it needs to be a gradual process where he does it on passing downs this year and works on other things for the future... I like a few 3-4 DEs in the upcoming draft (Darius, Austin, Bailey).

Don't get me wrong. There are some very talented 34 DEs coming up in this draft. Adrian Clayborn of Iowa is my favorite. However, the Chiefs have already drafted 2 in the top 5 and the idea of playing Dorsey at NT has been shot down by everyone at 1 Arrowhead Dr. The only one that seemed ok with it was Dorsey, himself, because he is a competitor and will do anything the coaches ask him. He has the leg size to play NT, but his upper body doesn't fit at all (to me, he looks, in person, more like a big FB than a DE or NT). I really believe he would have been working at NT during this training camp if he were to play it in a game. That kind of switch should be practiced before they throw him into the mix in a game.

I think he could and would play NT. I think Haley, Crennel and Pioli are the ones preventing the switch.

            • Any one else getting sick of the local media be it radio, newspaper or TV crying about not getting 24 hour access to the Chiefs?

I am sick of it, but I understand their beef. The Chiefs are supposed to grant certain access to players and coaches. The Chiefs are not meeting the minimum requirements mandated by the NFL. The media obviously has the ability to voice their displeasure in a manner that will get annoying to all of us.

I can't figure out why a team that is desperate to fill a new stadium wouldn't do everything in their power to get people buying ticket. Granting access for the media would help promote the Chiefs in a time when Chiefs fans should be optomistic about the direction we are heading.

Pioli, loosen the noose alittle and get KC fired up about this season, MNF back at Arrowhead and young promising players.

                • It's easy to fill seats in KC. The first quarter of the season is automatic sell-outs, after that, it's all about winning.

obviously you weren't there the last 2 seasons. They can give whatever announced attendance they want. I was there for every game and none of them were close to max capacity.

                    • Berry is definitely not going to fix everything. People don't get that he's just a piece of a much larger and more intricate puzzle. He is going to be a huge piece to it, but we still need (maybe) two linebackers, an actual NT prospect and maybe another safety (if Lewis doesn't stick) and maybe another corner, if Carr can't perform and Arenas can't handle #2 cb duties.

                      • I don't see how giving the media full access is going to help sell tickets, the local media especially the guys on the radio are nothing but negative towards the Chiefs any ways.

I had 810 on the other day and they have all ready wrote off the 2009 draft class after "ONE" year, I will be the first to say it hasn't looked bright outside of Succop but my goodness it's been ONE year.

I got so mad I had to turn it off, I really get the impression that these guys go out and watch one practice if that and determine how everything is going to play out it really is a joke.

1st, I know I've said it before, 810 is the biggest joke of a sports radio station in the country. Steven St. John and the morning show are the only ones that are tolerable. They don't try and create or make the news themselves. Everyone else seems to have a vendetta or an axe to grind.

It's to early for any of Pioli's KC Chiefs draft picks to be labeled a bust. Some could be on the "bust watch list", but none of them have been given a real opportunity to fail, yet.

More to my point about selling tickets, giving the media more access is bound to stir up positive thoughts. I'll bet alot of the negative thoughts from the media now is due in part from their lack of coverage. If they were able to get in there and interview Weis, Crennel, Pioli and all the players, then more positive things could come out. But because they aren't aloowed all those interviews, they are stirring the pot with their negative spoon. This is a great time to be a Chiefs fan. We are moving in the right direction and should have alot of excitement around this team. As soon as the media is denied access, they will turn little negative stories into bigger ones. Again, I don't see the benefit of denying access to most (not all the media is good) of them. Allowing a few more interviews that don't really break any new ground is only going to keep the media off the Chiefs front offices back.

                            • It's good news that Brian Waters returned to practice on Monday. He hadn't participated in camp because of some sort of ankle/foot injury.
