It sucks about Jim Johnson, but I think McDermott was a no brainer choice. Will the defense miss a beat? I really don't think so. I expect Stewart Bradley to have a great year with Broderick Bunkley also making strides.

McDermott will do things differently than JJ, but maybe that's what the D needs to continue to get better and more dominant. The talent level has not gone down, and there's plenty of flexibility and depth here. McDermott was the no-brainer if JJ had to be out, and here we are. It is a shame for him, but I remain excited about 2009-2010.

I still anticipate having a top 5 defense.

They have top 5 talent and are returning up to 10 starters to the D. The major change is Dawkins out and Jones/Demps in...

This is pretty disheartening news, I just hope JJ can recover and get through this, even if he doesn't coach again. He is too valuable of a presence in the game of football to just go off. I hope he makes a full recovery and is able to be involved with the game, in any capacity.

I think McDermott was the no-brainer, and according many sources, one of the top young defensive minds in the NFL. He runs a similar system, but as many have said, he probably just does things a little differently. It may take some adjustment, but nothing major. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he developes into a great Defensive Coordinator for us, whenver that may be.

Bleeding Green Nation posted this a month ago, but it's worth a look considering Jim Johnson's departure.

They examine the past JJ disciples that have gone on to become defensive coordinators. To sum it up, we're in very, very good hands.

As I said, there may be a transition period, but the talent scheme, and style are the same, so it shouldn't be too different.
