  • I'm reading he's having trouble finding the right arm angle to throw his pitches. That's leading to sloppy command. Don't forget that his best pitch is his change-up. If he's not getting the right slot, he's probably tipping the pitch. That leads to poor location and better batter awareness.

    • I'm also reading that Kendrick is having a lot of problems this spring. This makes sense to me because he is not THAT good a pitcher. His K rates didn't support his win total last season. Look for him to possibly struggle in 2008.

      • If that is the case, then I am a little worried about Cole for the beginning f the season.

I am expecting a little bit of a sophomore slump from him, but hopefully not to much.

          • Hopefully not, but he was never expected to be anything more than a #4 or #5. He's probably not a #3. There will be a slump. It could be permanent...

You really should have sent him to Japan.

              • Ha. Funny stuff. I would have preferred that the team never trade for Garcia last season and not sign Adam Eaton, then resigned Lohse. Going into 2007, the team would have Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Lohse, and Benson, with Kendrick in AAA (probably where he should be right now), plus Gio Gonzalez, Outman, and Carrasco, plus Savery on the way...

I would have preferred that as well actually. I am really high on the new pitching prospects for the Phils in the next few years.

                  • I like Outman and Savery especially. Outman is probably what some people think Kendrick is, but he's a lefty and gets people out. Savery is a gamer. I like him a lot.

What was Greg Maddux's K ratio last year... the strikeout ratio is not a good stat to judge pitchers on. I think Kendrick will be fine, solid #3 starter but he will never be anything mroe then that. I'd rather judge a pitcher buy WHIP, just becasue they don't strike people out doesn't mean they aren't a good pitcher.

That is a valid point, a sthere are many different type of pitchers, I still think the Strikout rotion is something that needs to be taken into account.

                          • You can't even compare Maddux and Kendrick in any way. Look at the BABIP in their careers. Maddux is just a master. Kendrick doesn't have his talent or his intelligence (you think Maddux would have ever believed he was traded to China?). Kendrick is a #4/5 SP. Maddux won Cy Youngs and dominated with similar stuff.

                            • They CAN be compared based one the fact that they don't have any dominating pitches, or overpowering throws, but besides that, they are not very similar though.

                              • Maddux in his heyday had a ridiculous changeup. He was also able to throw 4 plus pitches for strikes at any time with pinpoint location. His mind and ability far outstrip Kendrick on every level.
