Well, now with Dashon getting the job, and Reggie given a legit shot to compete inside, I don't think safety is something we need to address early.

    • It's probably going to be Oher, unless Raji is there, and then someone like Andre Brown in the second or Rashad Jennings in the third. The other pick, which wouldnt really shock me, would be an ILB to groom behind Takeo.

      • I wouldn't be confident without drafting an OLB in one of the first 2 picks. Manny and Parys... check. Then there's Jay Moore who wouldn't have made the team last year, and Ahmad Brooks who both Maiocco and Barrows claim always brings up the rear in running drills (not a good sign). I don't think he'll make the team either. That leaves the 49ers with 2 and only 2 OLB's.

          Haralson and Nedney extended:
Haralson, who led the 49ers with eight sacks last season, signed a reported four-year, $15 million deal that includes $6.5 million in guaranteed money. He is signed through the 2013 season. Nedney agreed to a two-year extension through 2011.
Happy to have Haralson locked up, wonder how many years Joe has got left in his leg?

          • Extending Parys early was ESSENTIAL. Beautiful usage of the salary cap. Now they need to extend Baas and Willis.

              • We should take THAT to the doubters on the main board. :D

Great news for Haralson, I've been saying all season that he deserves his chance.

                • I am glad we got Haralson resigned and I love how highly he spoke of Lawson. I glad everyone on the 49ers seems to like each other even if they are competing.

                  • Really interesting tidbit from the Maiocco piece on Haralson:

Haralson last month fired his previous agent, Bus Cook, who represents Jay Cutler. He hired agents Sean Kiernan and Mitch Frankel from Impact Sports. The negotiations moved quickly from there. Haralson said he agreed to the contract yesterday.
Bus Cook has a pretty unsavory reputation in my book. Could this be an instance of a player firing his agent for the right reasons? (If so he shoots up the good-guy league) Anyone know anything about the new pair?

                    • Great move by the Niners locking up Joe, and Parys I love it. It is sounding more and more like our first round pick is going to be either Aaron Maybin or Michael Oher I would be happy with either.

Also sounds like Everette Browns' stock is falling to somewhere around the 20s so I think he is out of consideration. Can't wait for draft time.

                      • I dont think that we should even draft a safety at all. When we drafted Reggie Smith last year, I said that his long term position would be safety. I'm hoping that he can compete and beat out Goldson because with Smith playing CB last year, he should be solid enough in coverage to allow Lewis to play closer to the line of scrimmage.

I wouldnt have a problem drafting RT Michael Oher at 10 but if we draft him, is he going to be sitting on the bench for two years behind Marvel Smith? I would rather see him start over Smith so he can gel with the other OL who should be there for several more years.

And why would we extend Willis now when he has four more years left on his rookie contract? I would rather wait because he's obviously not going anywhere. I agree with extending Baas though.

Extending Haralson means that he'll start opposite Lawson at OLB. With both players being young and only entering their fourth seasons, I wouldnt draft an OLB within the first three rounds.

Inside is a different story though. I hope Brooks makes the team but either way, we do need an ILB to eventually replace Spikes but the question is who? Who would be a good value in the second round and would be a great pairing with Willis?

Drafting Oher at 10 with an ILB in the second and a RB in the third wouldnt bother me at all.

Because keeping him here and happy is a pretty huge cog in the team...

Not a whole lot of information on these guys.

Frankel, is the president of Impact Sports. Some information on him -> http://www.nflplayers.com/reports/Ag....aspx?id=10139

                            Same with Kiernan: http://www.nflplayers.com/reports/Ag....aspx?id=34265

There is a pretty nice agent search engine http://www.nflplayers.com/user/templ...9&pid=0&type=l that lets you go through all the possible agents out there. Unfortunately they don't show you who they represent.

Overall, 13 negotiated contracts by Frankel, 11 by Kiernan.

Bus Cook has 23 to his credit.

To give you an even larger scale, Rosenhaus has 92.

Reggie Smith was playing SS at mini-camp.

The sooner he is extended, the less he will cost. Especially with next season being an uncapped year.

Jay Moore wouldn't have made the team last year. Tully Banta-Cain and Roderick Green are gone. Therefore the 49ers have TWO and only TWO OLB's. Neither of whom have proven to be dominant. The ILB crop this year is VERY deep. Of course adding a TED is very important because Spikes' carrer is winding down. What most don't consider is that the 49ers don't have ANYONE that can play MIKE behind Willis. I think the 49ers need to add 2 ILBs this offseason via the draft and PFA. You can get very attractive athletes in nearly every round. Players like Jasper Brinkley, Jason Williams, Jason Phillips, Scottt McKillop, Frantz Joseph, Antonio Appleby, Nick Reed, Josh Mauga, Worrell Williams, Lee Robinson, etc. The talent is so deep that drafting one highly doesn't make alot of sense.

Or Goldson could start at FS and Smith at SS, then both are on the field.
