Dude come on. Alex, although limited production, has been accurate as heck and looks better than ever. We're finally gonna get Braylon and Crabtree back, Spencer and Goldson will be back. This division absolutely blows too, we might have a playoff game :).

You really believe in Alex? Even if he plays decent, the offensive line still blows and the running game sucks. Let's not forget that the secondary is doo doo. Spencer and Goldson coming back isn't that great of news. It's not like they're susperstars. Especially Goldson. This is all topped off by a new coaching staff that can't even use common sense to make easy decisions in crucial games. Not to mention having zero balls. Christ what does it take to hire a coaching staff that isn't afraid to actually throw the ball down the field? Or play aggressive on defense? I'll take any coach, ANY coach that actually has a pair. I don't even care if we suck. I just want a coach that is brave enough to go for it on 4th and 1 with the game on the line or not afraid of throwing deep down the field. That's all I ask! Harbaugh so far is showing us what we've already seen since 2005. If he keeps this up he'll win a few meaningless games and win when it matters least...allowing players that are actually terrible, to shine at season's end and warrant staying with the ball club. West coast offense my ass. If this is what Harbaugh and company are bringing to the table I want no part of it. Give me a Bill Parcells type. When Simms was playing poorly he made an ultimatum and told him that he doesn't care if he throws 5 interceptions, just go out there and sling it. Have faith in your quarterback! The losing isn't nearly as bad as the mentality, which is playing not to lose.

This franchise is a long ways a way from a playoff birth. I've already crowned the Cardinals as division champs. This season feels like every single year since 2004. God we should have never fired Mariucci. I think we would have at least made the playoffs in 2003 if he was still there.

I'll stick around and watch the rest of the so called "games", but just so I fill out my obligation as a "fan"...although there seems to be few and fewer these days of this franchise. That's probably the worst news of all.

        • The o line I thought played very well against Seattle. Gore had a horrible game and wasn't seeing the holes. They were not very good against Dallas in the run game. They were pretty average in pass pro but they were also put in a lot of bad situations.

I may be in the minority but either Frank is completely uncomfortable in the offense or he isn't healthy. I don't think he is frank doesn't run into the pile and fall. He has no explosion either. Harbaugh needs to figure that out.

Idk what he has to do but something has to be done to change the attitude of our team when playing with the lead. The offense always shuts it down in the fourth quarter. That has to stop if they are going to be successful.

Its not Frank. Havent seen the replay of the Dallas game yet but I make sure to watch the O-Line before most of the snaps offensively and they have just not performed. They can't get to the second level. LBs and safties are running free. In the first game, they let Hill, Thomas, and Chancellor come up untouched to make tackles. Alot of that was the suckage that is Moran Norris. He repeatedly missed blocks against the 'Hawks safties. But the O-Line just couldn't move in cohesion, up the field. I knew it would be tough sledding against Dallas because Ryan throws so many different looks, its hard to match-up and get a hat-on-a-hat. They held a very good Jets running game in check during week 1 so I wasn't really surprised we struggled with them.

The problem is NO team in this league is going to let Gore beat them. Harbaugh has to understand this and switch up his philosphy. We have to pass to run now. Running to pass hasn't work for us since Norv was here. Teams won't come out of that mindset until you make them. Honestl, if it were me, I would pass all the way down the field until teams decided to adjust. If that meant passing for an entire quarter, so be it but nobody is going to change how they view our offense until we give them a reason to. Nobody respects our passing game. If Harbs can't see that we're in big trouble. And he has to spread the ball around. It can't just be VD. Teams wont let him beat them either, as he constantly double-teamed by Dallas. Harbs himself said we need to make WR position relevant again. WRs have to make plays downfield to open it up for not only Gore, but for VD also.

This last game niether Frank nor the O-line played well. Against Seattle I can remember at least 4 or 5 running plays where there were gaping holes that frank missed. Both need to play better or Frank needs to admitt he's not healthy and get someone in there who is.

No, and no one should at this point...but the improvement is pretty startling. I know you hate the guy, and I'm not gonna get into that - I think I can empathize with just about every Alex opinion at this point - but look at some of the throws he was making on third and long with pressure right in his face:

We haven't had a QB make throws like that since Young (Garcia didn't have the arm strength). The accuracy is very atypical of Alex Smith, you don't even see balls sailing anymore. I think it's obvious whatever Harbaugh is doing is working...which is a good sign for the future when it comes to QBs.

If the line would just improve a bit, who knows what could happen here...I'm just hoping they don't meltdown after the Dallas loss, that would be so typical :(.

I don't have Alex. I just hate his play on the field. Let's get that straight as it seems to keep eluding everyone here.

And I completely disagree about Garcia. He didn't have a huge arm, but it wasn't like Chad Pennington. He made some great throws and was very accurate. Not to mention he had the "it" factor. The instincts. It attributed to him having a successful career. Perhaps you don't remember him playing when he was here. He was great on third downs, especially in 2002. I won't compare the two any further (that would be stupid as Garcia was obviously the better player), but I will say so far in these two games Alex has played well. That being said it really doesn't mean much.

I won't look too much into it because Alex will have to play at a Pro Bowl level or he's gone as Harbaugh will have the draft to look forward too and have a chance to get a real quarterback for the future if he doesn't like what he sees from Kaepernick. Also, we've seen career backups have great seasons before. But for what Alex has been asked to do, which is be a game manager, he's played well. But game managers don't get you rings. Harbaugh needs to let Alex air it out more, because good or bad we aren't going to win games with our terrible rushing attack.

                  • Braylon is going to miss some time:
Harbaugh on Braylon Edwards: "He's gonna be out for a little bit." He did not elaborate.

That is, Edwards had an operation on his right knee, which he injured Sunday in the first quarter.
Of course Soviet Russian Harbaugh didn't give a time frame. Rough losing Edwards. I hope SF brings back Ziegler.

In other news Norris maybe out as well:
49ers FB Moran Norris on crutches with an orthopedic boot on his left foot. Said he's fine. But visual evidence didn't look good for Sunday.

                    • Crappy news about Braylong, we're never gonna have a legit WR it seems.

Great news about Norris though, with Gore's butt-buddy out of the mix it could mean a more open Offense.

Smith was back to action in a month.

Agreed it is his time to step up, I also hope Kyle Williams sees more targets I really want to know what they have in him.
