  • After using a lot of resources last year on improving the secondary I wouldnt be surprised if BB went all out trying to fix the LB corp this year and got two or three prospects.

I think it was Michael Lombardi was saying he expects a lot of trades to happen during free agency due to the RFA restrictions. I would happily trade Adalius Thomas straight up for someone like Matt Roth if Thomas is going to be a ***** AD is obviously the better player but Roth is more than serviceable and offers experience. He also had 4 sacks in 6 games last year.

I know drafting someone like Spikes would make for a very nice looking pair of ILBs but I would prefer to strengthen other areas through the draft and see what we have with a Guyton/McKenzie rotation beside Mayo unless adding a veteran through FA.

    Ideal and not unrealistic scenario to happen;

Resign Wilfork and Mankins first and foremost.

Resign Stephen Gostkowski, TBC and Kevin Faulk.

I would love to keep Bodden and Green but both will get bigger contracts than the Pats can afford to give them.

    Release Laurence Maroney.

Sign Chester Taylor and Larry Foote.

    Trade AD for Matt Roth.

Draft Sergio Kindle/Brandon Graham/Jerry Hughes, Maurkice Pouncey, Arthur Jones/Corey Wootten

Generally resign players who need to be resigned and valuable role players.
Release players who are good additions but are expendable.
Bring in Taylor and Foote for experience and productivity.
Get rid of Thomas and bring in a guy who can at least be an upgrade over Pierre Woods etc.
Draft young talent at important positions of need but don't expect them to necessarily start and contribute on day one.

    • Love that list.

I want Bodden resigned and don't think he'll be offered any massive deals, but I guess we'll see. Maybe adding McCourtey/Arenas in the draft if Bodden leaves and we get a 4th CB & return specialist out of one pick.

Green is old enough that I doubt he gets a huge deal, but his position is definitely in high demand with so many teams moving to a 3-4. Not a big deal if he goes since we have so much depth on the dline these days.

Taylor and Foote would be perfect. I don't know if Larry would leave since Foote wanted to go to Detroit last year. Taylor might be willing to move here since it would look like an open backfield spot and he'd have the chance to win the job, which is more than he can say in Minne.

      • In my opinion, Adalius Thomas is a lockerroom cancer. That's why he has to go. And I think he has two years left on his his deal worth some $20 mio. He's not worth that much, but a team like NYJ or the Browns might be interested in trading a fifth for him. To me that's the ideal scenario.

As for Antoins scenario, I'm with FlyingElvis. I too want Bodden signed, since our only other CB that at this point is of starting caliber is Butler (who I'm really high on). The thought of Wilhite starting is waaay more scarier than Mayo being the oldest starting LB. I think Mayo can lead that unit, and if we sign Dansby or draft Spikes he might not have to. I would love getting Arenas in the fourth, but I'm also starting to like Walter McFadden from Auburn. They usually produce CBs with good fundamentals which make their transition to the NFL much easier, and he played very well in the Outback Bowl (or so I think it was).

USA Today's named the Pats the team of the decade. **** yeah

          • There was little to no debate about it IMO. Colts are the only other team to have as much sustained success as the patriots. The deciding factor when those 2 teams are that close is championships. 3 > 1, and 4 > 2 (appearances).

            • Yeah, this is good :)

New topic! Just what do we have in Myron Pryor? Interesting stat; last year, out of his twenty tackles, thirteen were for a loss of yardage. That's second on the team only to Vince Wilfork...well, actually third if you count Tully, but a lot of those were sacks, so let's just based this on the ability to stop the run. That's actually pretty amazing given he did it in about a fourth of the time that Wilfork did and lined up all over the place. More than half of his tackles. Obviously, that pace wouldn't last if he was a starter...but still. So what is he? A Gary Guyton type guy we can groom into a starting role in a few years? A rotational spark plug? Do we think he can play 3-4 DE for us going forward?

              • Where was he lining up last year? He is listed as DT and all the game notes say he played in reserve as DT, but how much of that was in 4 man vs. 3 man fronts?

                • He was mostly brought in when we went 4-3 if I remember correctly, but I saw him lined up at both NT and DE multiple times last year. One of the things that makes assessing him so hard is that he moved around so much and had such a small sample size at each spot.

                  • Yeah, I saw him at NT, DT and DE as well. I'm not quite sure what we have with Myron Pryor, but if we were to switch to 4-3 he would be a beast as UT. I came away impressed with his season, being that I had no expectations for him what so ever (I actually thought he would go to the practice squad and Darryl Richard would get the roster spot). But if WV leaves, I think he has the potential to be a Jay Ratliff type of NT for us.

                    • Don't think our defense works with a Jay Ratliff type. It would be nice to see something different, but it wouldn't work.

As far as my opinion on Pryor; I think he might be starting material. Really liked him at Kentucky, but I didn't see him projecting well to the 3-4 with us. That's the one concern. He's just not a very long guy, which is needed to be a 3-4 DE, which is where we would need him the most. He flashed A LOT of promise though. Everytime he was in the game something good happened. It's not just the stops for a loss, he took on blockers and controlled gaps well too. It's just a matter of if people will figure out how to block him and if he can hold up in a starting type role.

I like that a lot, he could definitely have a Ratliff type role for us. Don't know if he is as physically talented but he is stout and pretty quick for a big guy. He brings a lot of versatility to the table to, he lined up all over the place in both 3 and 4 fronts for us. He is the type of guy who brings a lot to the table that we banked on so heavily during our Super Bowl years, I'm really excited about Pryor.

                        • Love Pryor as well. I do wonder if he can hold up in a starter role though.
Would love it if he could... I still would like to add someone in the draft though
That goes without saying I guess since it looks like Green is gone as well

                          • Pryor's fun. He was basically used as a UT (at DT, NT, and DE)...which is how they've used Jarvis Green in the past. Pryor erases the worry about replacing Green, but the need to get better traditional 3-4 DE's is still prevalent.

I won't bank on him developing traditional 3-4 DL skills, but I love the way they use him.

                              • I figured that he would not be here much longer (retirement, not not being resigned), but he did say that he wants to be here, just that he thinks the team won't resign him. If that truly is their plan, wow we need a WR or 3 in this draft.
