  • With a huge injury to Welker as well, WR is now starting to look like a big need for us within the next two years. Lets hope we dont have to go through another year like in 06.

      • Don't be shocked if the Patriots go after a mid to late round WR. Brandon Tate should be a good WR.

What?!?! No way! AJ Green is a much better prospect. Every time I watch him play I come away impressed. I'm not that impressed by Jones. I'm sure he'll be a very good NFL receiver, but Green has Randy Moss potential imo (without being the same type of freakish athlete though...).

              • I really like AJ Green but I personally think Julio Jones in even a balanced offense would put up scary numbers. Greg McElroy is at the very best a game manager and someone with Jones' height, speed, hands, body control etc comes along very seldom.

                • I know that, but Green is also very talented. I would, however, be happy with either of them. But if both were available, I would hope for Green. Or, at least at this point I would... McElroy is a joke, but how threw the ball to Calvin Johnson at VT? Still he managed to make a lot of spectacular catches and put up good numbers. JJ doesn't do that, which tells me that he can be taking out of the games relatively easy - not a good thing when you're likely to get picked in the top 10 by a crappy team with a crappy QB.

                  • I agree with a lot of that but despite having a far worse year than his freshman year Julio only has 200 less yds in his college career thus far that CJ had. The issue with Jones is his lack of TDs but with a Heisman trophy winning RB and another RB who may be better than him then his chances will be limited. What really propelled CJ to top 2 level was his ridiculous junior season so next year we will have to see how the WRs do.

My top 3 for next year at this point is

                    Julio Jones
                    AJ Green
                    Michael Floyd

                    • I want to throw in Jonathan Baldwin. At 6 ft 5 in and 225 lb. he is even bigger than Floyd, Green and Jones and he knows how to get up and catch the ball. Baldwin was pretty productive for the Panthers (57 receptions for 1111 yards, 19.5 average and 8 touchdowns) although they prefer to run the ball with freshman sensation Dion Lewis.

                      • I like Baldwin but I'm not sure I see him in the same level as the other three. It would be interesting to see how he times though because e may be a high 4.5/low 4.6 guy which could hurt him. Next years WR class is completely awesome

                        • If they decide to declare for the draft... That's my biggest concerns, since they might be inclined to stay for their senior year if the NFL is headed towards a lockout. That would mean that Undead Al will get his revenge for the Moss trade.

                          • Give me AJ Green or Julio Jones, you can't go wrong. Michael Floyd is a monster but I'd take Jones or Green over him any day of the week, both are rare talents.

                            • Just read a really interesting article from ESPN Insider/Football Outsiders about how the 3-4 was a great defense in the past because there weren't a lot of teams running it and so it was easy to find personnel for cheap (since other teams weren't looking for a 3-4 NT, etc), but now that the league is shifting towards the 3-4, those players are overpaid, and that the Patriots might be better off trading Wilfork for a first and third round pick or something along those lines and using those picks to try and build a 4-3 defense. I know Wilfork is a beast but he might be a little out of place in a 4-3 and those picks would really come in handy. Maybe Warren lines up at tackle, and we've got Derrick Burgess and someone else on the ends? Not exactly sure how that would work and we'd certainly need quite a few players to make it happen but it's a possibility. Just thought it was an interesting article.

                              • Randy not coming back at 33+ on a big contract seems like an obvious call. I would be very surprised to see him resigned. He's not taking a lessor deal to stay so it will depend entirely on the offers he receives.

I think the major shift to the 3-4 across the league was part of BB's consideration last year. He does a great job keeping ahead of the pack and that has to be at least part of the reason for the "switch" to 4-3 last year.

This draft will tell all, imo.
