  • I think a DE, OLB, and CB could help Cunningham out a lot. Bodden coming back will help, but I don't expect him to stay healthy. He hasn't been overly healthy his entire career.

    Arrington was "serviceable" at best.

Right now, my 3 favorite prospects are Cam Jordan, Jimmy Smith, and Justin Houston - which could very well be picks 17, 28, and 33. Of course, this completely ignores the needs on the OL (with mankins future uncertain, stephen neal's career going to retire soon, and other issues), RB, and WR positions.

    • I don't see Cunningham as good of an athlete as some of you guys do. I think he he's one of those guys who gets off the line really quickly and uses his hands well and such...but as we've discussed before I don't think he's got that burst at the end of the play. Should be a 6+ sack a year guy when he's on his game, but I can't see any more than that on a year in year out basis. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's my reasoning for being interested in seeing how he comes a long. It's still very early in the process for Cunningham and there's a chance I'm completely wrong, but I'm really not sold on him being more than an average starter just quite yet.

      • I see Cunningham as still being pretty raw, yet he developed into a very nice all-around player. He picked up all of Ninkovich's positional duties rather quickly and looked solid in coverage. Whether he can develop into a very good pass rusher really is up in the air. He's got a lot of room to grow, physically. In any case, I think the Pats have at least one long-term starter at OLB - finally.

I'm on the boat of believing Cunningham will be a good player and average starter, I can't see him becoming much more. He is not a freak of nature, but he is a very quick guy for his size. His issue is not his athleticism but his strength and technique, he is very raw and needs to become stronger. He is smooth though and has the talent to contribute, but like I said I see him as a Colvin type player for us. A good situational player who would really be at his best if we had a couple other OLB's who could take the bulk of the snaps, like Colvin had in Vrable and McGinnest.

          • He's a LOLB to me. I would want a ROLB in the draft.

            • If we can get 6 or so sacks a year out of Cunningham then that's better than what the Pats have gotten out of most of their front 7 players in recent years, and that would actually be pretty good.

I look at him this way. He did a good job against the run, was probably the best Pats OLB at putting pressure on the QB (even if he didn't get the sacks), and he held his own in coverage. All this after having never played the position before. He was strictly a hand on the ground DE at Florida. So I think there's a lot of potential there.

He may never be a Pro bowler, but he should be a solid starter for the Pats. As for sacks, he was never really a sack guy even in college, so we can't expect him to be a double digit sack man in the pros. If he can get 5 or 6 a year while being good in run defense, that will be great. Just need a good pass rushing OLB opposite him.

                  17. DE Cameron Jordan, California

                  28. OG Mike Pouncey, Florida

                  33. OT Tyron Smith, Southern California*

                  60. LB Brooks Reed, Arizona

                  74. RB DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma

                  92. CB Davon House, New Mexico St.

Looks pretty good to me. I'm not as high on Cam Jordan as a lot of people are, but that's just personal preference. It fits the need.

Also, I would have liked to see a better OLB. I like Reed but he's a bit of a project imo. Not sure how much he helps this season. Don't know if he was still on the board but I much prefer Jeremy Beal. Again, just personal preference.

I love the Murray pick. Fingers crossed that he can stay healthy.

Funny I see LOTS of mocks that give House to the Pats. Not complaining about it necessarily. I don't really know anything about him, and I'm fine with them taking a CB early in this draft. But it's just interesting how that particular guy gets mocked to the Pats so frequently in the late third round.

Would make absolute sense, I really do think that we're going to see a trade up for someone.

There is such depth and value at DL/LB this year they can jump up, grab someone like Green and still get quality guys in round 2-3.

                        I'd be a happy panda.

                        • My first reaction is who, other than someone involved in the Pats draft room, would know such a thing?
My second reaction is why would that person come out and tell that to Mel Kiper?
My third reaction is I wonder how long before BB fires that person?

Exactly, it's been speculated BB likes to hint at stuff like this before draft day to either increase interest or confuse other teams as to what our plan is. If it is true and it happens I couldn't be too upset considering the depth in this draft of Dlinemen. If it's true and this was leaked I'm sure BB and staff already have a deal worked out with some team if Green falls to them.

                              • Signings like Marcus Stroud make sense if you are thinking package picks to trade up. If we can fill a few voids with vets it makes it more plausible to think we may move up for an impact player like Green.

In case you missed it the Globe is reporting the pats signed Stroud to 2 year deal earlier today.
