  • Yeah real excited about Gronk.

Disappointed with Dowling's contribution throughout camp so far, not sure if he's injured or what.

Apart from that I've been nicely surprised thus far by Ridley and Smith. Two guys who could really carve out a role for themselves this year.

    • I wouldn't worry too much about injuries. It's a funny year. Guys aren't conditioned and are being asked to do a ton right off the bat. A lot of it is probably just exercising a bit of caution.

I'm pretty convinced Lee Smith can do what Alge did last year without an issue. Maybe even do it better. We're losing a little in the veteran leadership department though. Alge was a real good presence on the team.

      • My biggest concern is the guys like Dowling who are constantly hurt.

This is a year where an injury could happen (and is far more likely) and could be serious. You can lose your burst after one mistake and that basically kills your NFL career.

        • The Patriots have agreed to a one-year deal with former Jets DE Shaun Ellis!

          • Love it.

At some point, a Haynesworth/Wilfork/Ellis odd front will occur and it will be the sex

            • Reiss blogged about how cunningham is having a pretty underwhelming camp, says hes looked pretty easy to block.

              • Hopefully it's just rust 'cause he impressed me last year.

I read (ESPNBoston blog) that M.Anderson seems to get steamrolled in the running game but is beasting in passrushing. In 11 vs 11 and 1 on 1 drills.

If we sign Matt Roth, my offseason wet dream basically came true.

                  • Easily. Someone on ESPNBoston left a comment saying the pats have recently cut 2 players (unlikely to make the cut anyways) and now signed S.Ellis.
That leaves one more spot that can be filled... I hope it's M.Roth as well.

That's fantastic news. Should be a very good rotational player.

That's bad news. Not entirely unsurprising though. I think he's just another guy in the NFL. Doesn't mean he can't have value, but I'm not all that excited about his potential overall.

Read that as well. I'm OK with that. We just need him to use his burst and get after the passer.

Yeah, if we manage to snag Roth, we would really be looking good.

                      • It will be a shame if Cunningham only develops into what we thought he would prior to the draft - I was hoping Belichick knew something we didn't, but I remember that pick seeming like a pretty big reach at the time.

                        • As for Anderson, he is considered to be a liability against the run, but if he can get to the passer on passing downs more effectively than TBC did, I'll be happy.

                          • I have all the faith in JC. He might have had just one sack last year but he looked good out there.
It seemed like he was always just one stay away from a sack every other snap.
He gets pressure... and we all know BB could care less about sacks and loves his pressure.
I still think he can turn into a 7-10 sack guy annually. Nothing spectacular but very effective.

As for Anderson, he is no doubt a pass rush specialist so any negative print on his run D does nothing for me. He's had that stigma his entire career. He is what he is.

I'd be very surprised if Cunningham recorded ten sacks at any point. I think six is a more realistic guess.

I really liked him coming out....but not as a second round pick. I don't think he's athletic enough to be a full time linebacker and his advantages over a tackle at DE are pretty limited.
