  • Carter is more of a 4-3 guy for sure, but he does have experience at OLB. Considering we've dealt with well below average guys in the base package before it shouldn't be too noticeable if we stick him there a few times.

    • My best guess at what the roster will look like:

      QB (3): Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB (5): BJGE, Woodhead, Vereen, Ridley, Faulk
WR (6): Ocho, Welker, Branch, Edelman, Price, Tate
      TE (3): Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith
OL (9): Light, Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Vollmer, Wendell, Solder, Levoir, Cannon
DL (10): Wilfork, Haynesworth, Ellis, Cunningham, Carter, Pryor, Wright, Love, Brace, Moore
LB (5): Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, Fletcher, Ninkovich
DB (9): McCourty, Dowling, Bodden, Butler, Arrington, Chung, Merriweather, Sanders, (Goldson?)

      K: Gostkowski
      P: Mesko
      LS: Katula

Cuts: Thomas Austin, Tyree Barnes, Josh Barrett, Sergio Brown, Carson Butler, Markell Carter, Landon Cohen, Jonathan Compas, Christian Cox, Brandon Deaderick, Buddy Farnham, Darnell Jenkins, Eric Kettanni, Chris Koeppelin, Aaron Lavarias, Bret Lockett, Steve Maneri, Brandon McGowan, Richard Medlin, Chris Morris, Sammy Morris, Marquez Murrell, Clay Nurse, Rich Ohrenburger, Darryl Richard, Jeremy Ross, Alex Silvestro, Matthew Slater, Jeff Tarpinian, Ross Ventrone, Kade Weston, Tracy White, Jonathan Wilhite, Steve Williams, Malcolm Williams, Cory Woods, Will Yeatman.

Personally I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over losing any of those guys. I think some likely injuries will let us take a flyer or 2 on a couple of the aforementioned players, but as it stands right now I don't think the cuts will be that difficult. Although looking at the LB depth we could use another guy there.

      • Isn't Cannon not going to count against the roster because of his cancer recovery? Pretty sure he's basically getting a redshirt year. Might be wrong though, but I thought that was the idea around the draft.

Besides that, everything looks good. Good work. You've left Mark Anderson off both lists though.

        • solid list.... but who are gunna be the gunners? the special team specialists that we always carry? your list is a little flawed because it does not include any of these guys

EDIT: because of this, i think a guy like slater is a lock to make the team, even though i hate saying that.

          • I think there are enough guys on there who make solid special teamers like Arrington, Dowling, Fletcher, Smith, Vereen, Butler, 4th safety whoever that may be, ect.

FWIW Slater and Malcolm Williams were the last cuts and I really struggled cutting them over Brace. I think we'll get an injury or 2 or Cannon never makes it off PUP allowing room for a special team type guy, but as it stands right now I see enough raw talent to prevent a crappy pure special teams guy like Slater making it. I think they have some guys with talent who they'd like to see on the field, yet don't have needs for them in the base offense and defense

            • I wonder if McCourty is going to be left off of the ST units this year

              • I hope so. I got so ******* scared when he got hurt last year. We need him locking down receivers. Let someone else kill themselves running down guys on special teams.

                  • i agree with all you guys. i think he plays ST tho unfortunately, bill loved the fact last year that mccourty is a guy who can play 4 downs... and you dont hear him say that very often

                    • I don't want to cut Deaderick. I know we have a logjam on the DL now and we are drifting away from the straight 3-4, but I like him and I will also guarantee the Jets pick him up if we cut him.

at this point i think id take deaderick over brace, easily. and that may be the case when final cuts are announced... unless they do some injury reserve hoopla that they always do haha

                        • Trade Deaderick for Mays?
The Brian Sabean sig is no more. I disagreed with you on so many levels. And then you went out and built a dynasty. I am lame.

                          • I would rather cut Brace, to be honest. He's the most expendable guy in the current situation, IMO. I just think it's square peg round hole kind of thing with him as a DE and he's going to continue to find less and less playing time the more we go to more athletic defensive front. Deaderick has disciplinary issues though. Put us in a real tough spot because he couldn't get to practice on time. But he's an effective two down DE in the base package.

                            • I don't know how Kyle Moore fits either with the Carter and Anderson signings, we have a lot of end/LB tweeners now but none of them really stick out. Moore showed a lot of promise at the end of last year but he and Carter are pretty similar.

this would be very interesting, as reports are we are very mad about the way the secondary has been playing at training camp. yes hes a safety, but unfortunately i dont think hes the best fit here. we need a guy who communicates well at the back end and can play centerfield well (take over for meriweather).... and thats not mays
