  • Tampa 2 Hybrid

    I know the Tampa 2...
But what is the difference from Raheem's version to the original? Does the Hybrid call for a higher responsibility at SS? Or are the Berry projections just BPA?

The Berry projections are BPA and not because of the new scheme.

I don't think Raheem has changed the Tampa 2 a whole lot since he re-implemented it. But I have noticed the secondary, in particular the corners, are not playing zone the whole time. They are being more physical than they traditionally were.

Thank God Buffalo has moved away from the Tampa 2, back to the 3-4 for us baby!

Haha I'm still a fan of the Tampa 2! A few teams still run a primarily zone defense!

The biggest difference is not in the front 4, still one-gap primarily, but what the back 4 are doing. We saw more cover-3 and cover-1 (which is primarily man) under Raheem's version. I really like the t-2 but I also like the ability to switch from to the other in a moment's notice.

The Berry speculation is BPA, which will last until the combine when Berry comes in closer to 5'9 185 lbs than he is to 6' 203. That would pretty much rule him out at SS and wouldn't make him the sure-thing that many believe him to be at FS. And you don't project a guy to another position (CB) at #3 overall. Hopefully if Suh and McCoy are gone, we trade down for Brian Price and pick up an additional early round pick or two in the process.

NFL.COM analysts have mocked Berry to us and having us convert him to a CB if we can't trade down. This seems like a more likely senario then drafting a Safety with the 3rd pick. CB seems like a big need if the T2 Hybrid calls for more man to man...
